Delicious Polish food in Greenpoint 4/22/2005

Lomzinianka looks tiny and unprepossessing from the street (at the intersection of Bedford and Manhattan aves). Inside it is still tiny, but alluringly cozy, like grandma's house, complete with TV. Checkered plastic tablecloths and out-of-season Christmas tinsel make up the decor, with an entirely unironic deer head completing the look--in a word, charming. But the food, not the kitsch factor, is the reason to come here--it is cheap, delicious, and plentiful. A surefire winner is the Polish platter (pierogies, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, potatoes, and bigos, a sort of saeurkraut-and-meat casserole) for the princely sum of $5.50, but the roast chicken ($3.75) is also highly recommended, as is pretty much anything else on the bilingual menu--with everything under $6, with a complimentary salad, how can you go wrong? P.S. the borscht is also excellent. more
