I've been using this facility for almost a year to groom my Border Collie mix and my Malamute. Although my Border Collie is very friendly and outgoing and happy anywhere we take him, my Malamute is a totally different story. She's fine with people but is horribly aggressive with any other animals. The groomer had no reservations about scheduling my Malamute for late grooming sessions so that all other dogs being groomed would be gone for the day and she would have the place all to herself. This was a HUGE help to us since several other groomers (after grooming her only one time) have asked me to never bring her back, LOL. Thank you Locust Run Kennels for being so accommodating EVERY time we've called you. more

My dogs love it! 4/30/2014

We been taking our dogs there for a little over a year now and every time (3 times a year) they get out the car the run to the door unlike the other kennel we used to take them to. We took them to another kennel before and they kept coming home smelling like urine. Here when we come back to get them they look and smell the same way as when we took them there. This is place is soo clean it amazes me, most kennels smells like dog and other things, well this place you can't even smell anything. It always smells fresh. We have a Chihuahua and a Yorkie mix and this kennel has the big dogs separated from the little dogs. We all love it! more

We had boarded our two dogs at Locust Run last May for a weeks time and they were very well taken care of. A few months later we had some water damage in our home and had to stay in hotels for over 8 weeks while our house was repaired. Since our dogs are larger sized they could not stay in the hotel with us so we called Locust Run and they were able to take them with less than 12 hrs notice! They also were very patient and understanding letting me extend their stay on a week by week basis. I had stopped in almost every week unannounced to see our dogs and they were always happy, and well taken care of! They always had fresh water and a clean kennel. This is a very affordable, flexible facility and we will be using them again this year! We also had our dogs groomed before coming home and they did a great job with that as well. more

A concerned dog owner 1/15/2014

PLEASE DO NOT take your dog or cat to LOCUST RUN!!! The owner does not take proper care of the animals when there is a problem, he waits days to contact anyone, IF he even decides to!! IF you look closely, the kennels ARE NOT cleaned properly, Food/Water does not get dumped and refilled NEARLY enough, always cloudy water!! If you decide to get your dog or cat groomed BE prepared!! The dogs DO NOT get water or left out to potty when they are down there waiting to be picked up!! Sometimes ALL DAY!! I would not recommend this kennel to ANYONE!!!!!! more

A good kennel 6/12/2012

My parents and I have been using Locust run for years. When our first dog was older, he got sick while in the kennel. The staff drove him the whole way to our regular vet (leader heights) and called to let us know. My dogs i have now drag me in. (Not that they don't drag me out to go home too). It is not a home setting but they can have their own food, bed, and toys. The price can't be beat. I will keep using them for sure! more

Very Dissapointed 5/30/2012

My husband and I having been boarding all ours dogs at Locust Run for 12 plus years. We have never had an issue with them until now. We boarded our dog there for a week and when we returned we picked him up and brought him home. As we were petting him I noticed a rough area under his chin...I looked and saw a very large cut with blood that seemed to be recently dried. My husband called and spoke with the owner and explained what he found. The owner had said that as they were giving him a bath they did notice the cut but really didn't think anything of it. We were concerned that an infection would settle in and make things worse for our dog, so my husband asked if they would pay for the vet bill and the owner was quite rude and said that he ""does not feel that he should be responsible for a vet bill"" and then said ""well how do I know he didn't come from your home injured"". By the way the vet bill was only $71.00 with antibiotics. We were appalled. After so many years and so much business that we gave them that he would not even consider paying a vet bill. He wanted to give us a discount on our next visit, which by the way, it only cost $13.85 a day to board your dog there. \r Locust Run did not assume accountability nor responsibility for this. They should have called us to tell us that they noticed a cut on him, but they didn't. They did not even say anything when we went to pick up our dog as if we wouldn't see this large cut on our dog. \r Needless to say our dog did end up with an infection from the cut...and we have started looking for another kennel. \r I would not recommend them more

Perfect place for a perfect price 8/31/2010

After losing my neighbors, who always watched my dogs in my home, I was left with looking for a kennel this year for my two yorkies. I can say when we visited the kennel we were very impressed at how well the kennel was kept. All of the dogs seemed very happy and I did not see one pee or one poop laying on the floors. \r However, after touring the kennel, I thought I better look at the reviews this kennel received. About 2/3 of the reviews were good and about 1/3 were horrible. I was really having second thoughts on taking my two dogs there. They are very spoiled at home and I didn't want to pick up my dogs from there needing a bath right away and having an injury where I would have to spend hundreds of dollars just to get them fixed up.\r I decided to take them there anyway and after 6 days we went to pick them up. On the way there all I could think about is all of the bad reviews I read on here. Would my dogs be injured? Would they need a bath right away? Did they really follow our wri more

All I can say is WOW!! They were happy, healthy, fed to our instructions, kennel was clean, etc. I was very happy to see that they didn't need a bath or medical attention. They were my happy dogs. \r The staff there is very good at what they do. We forgot the dogs toys and had to run them back to them and they said they would make sure they got them. They did. Their water was full as well as their food dish. They were lucky enough to get the end kennel which eased my worries about them being cramped. \r I inspected my dogs upon arrival at home. I checked their teeth, ears, feet pads, and for fleas. Everything was perfect. No fleas, ticks, nor cuts or bruises. \r I would definitely recommend them to anyone! Perfect place with a perfect price. They always seem full so that has to say something about the place. My dogs definitely found thier new home away from home. more

Satisfaction with Locust Run 8/17/2010

We have used Locust Run for many years to board our previous and current black lab. Initially, we used a Vet. facility, thinking it was an obvious good place to board; however, our lab had issues due to the cramped accomodations. We found Locust Run and have been using it ever since without any negative experiences. The accomodations are spacious and clean. It is a large facility, but it is very well run and organized. The staff is courteous and helpful. On several occasions, we have had them dispense medicines. We left written instructions which were carried out properly. We bring our own food and treats along with written instructions on dispensing, which again are carried out. Over the years, we found out they have refrigerators in the kennel area. My labs have always loved carrots and now we bring an allotment to be dispensed during the stay. These are just a few ways they have been accomodating for us. This facility is a good value. more

Wonderful Kennel 8/4/2010

WE have boarded our 4 year old Westie at Locust Run for the past 4 years. Previously, we had a Carin, named Maggie. Maggie and Sadie are well taken care of. They never came home with fleas. Maggie and now Sadie are boarded in the air conditioned building. Sadie comes home dirty, but happy. They do allow us to take her food. 10 years ago we boarded in a kennel in Delta that advertised daily exercise, which I really doubt occurred. Our beloved Maggie, was stuck in a cage with no bottom 3 feet off the floor. This was not the type of situation we wanted for our dog. At Locust Run, she has a nice run and go outside whenever she wants. The kennel is always clean and always smells of bleach. I would not take my dog anywhere else. more

Owners Beware 7/24/2010

If your pet is like a member or your family then this is not the place to board. It is dirty and reminded somewhat of what a puppy mill might look like. As you look over the reviews, there are more negative than positive comments. Many animals needing vet trips after being boarded there. Not worth the risk. I had a horrible feeling when we dropped our dogs off there, I regret now that we didn't go with our instincts and just take them somewhere else. This place needs to be inspected. It can't possible be complying. more

Working Mom 7/19/2010

We have taken our dog to this kennel every time we go away. I would highly recommend them. You can request an air conditioned kennel. They check on the dogs very often and actually care about your dog. It is in a nice country setting so the dogs can bark all they want and the kennels are clean. We were able to bring our own dogs bed, toys and food, to give him a little bit of home while we were away from him. more

Horrible Conditions 7/5/2010

I would never recommend this kennel to anyone!!! When I picked up my dogs, my puppy had poop stuck all over her butt and she was so filthy I had to wash her before I could take her home. Her anal glands were swollen as well. She had green discharge coming out of both her eyes. The kennel had poop in it and both of their beds had dog poop in them. was horrified at the conditions and had to throw away all of their bedding and toys. It is obvious that the owners did not look after my animals and I would never take them there again. I will be informing my vet of the conditions. I checked out Morgan's Paws and that is where my dogs will be going in the future!!! more

I always take my dogs here! 5/27/2010

All I can say is we have been taking our Husky there for quite some time and my sister takes her dogs here also. Everyone who wrote bad reviews needs a wake up call. Locust Run doesnt advertize as a kennel that is going to be pampering your dog. Maybe if you have a ridiculous little dog that you put little pink dresses on this place is not for you. They show you their facilities, you can plainly see where your dogs will be. Perhaps the setting is not for everyone but I would hardly refer to them as a concentration camp as I saw some people have. My dog always seems to be happy there he never hesitates when we get there or acts strange like he does when we go to the vet. He comes out just as happy, is he dirty of course because hes outside, which you know when you take them. But Locust Run does offer bathing at a reasonable cost and you can call before picking up you dog. As for injuries, I know how reckless my dog plays and runs around so I am surprised mine hasnt come back with a cut or two ever. And as for fleas.. once again they are outside! A little frontline every 3 months and this would be no concern. The staff are friendly, maybe not overly friendly but, I think some of you people want the staff to just gush over you and your dog... They have always been polite and answered all of my questions and I love my dogs dearly and wouldnt take them anywhere I thought was dangerous. The other thing these negative people need to realize is in a kennel situation your dog is one of many and cant be watched every minute to make sure they dont get in to trouble. I kennel my dogs seperate but side by side so they have the comfort of being together but not the annoyance of being confined with the other. As far as what I have witnessed my dog is well taken care of when hes there. We even underestimated his food supply one time and when we got there he had a bowl full of food that they provided. He goes in and out when he wants, he runs, comes back in one piece and happy and the price is reasonable. Keep up the good work locust run, diesel and roxie rhinier will be future guests :) Pros: friendly Cons: ? more

HORRIBLE 1/29/2010

I took my dogs last year here because folks said it was a good place. Boy were they wrong ! The place reminded me of a concentration camp. The workers there were very indifferent and acted as if they were bothered by our presence. My dogs left with feces all over them from not being feed properly. The next day I discovered my dog had a small bowel obstruction from the improper feeding. The Vet bill was $ 1600 !!! NEVER AGAIN will they ever go there again !! more

Great kennel 12/14/2009

We have been taking our dogs to Locust Run for about 16 years. Never had a bad experience and they are reasonably priced. If you want soft music played and someone to sit with you dog and carpeting on the floor this is prpbably not the place for you. But if you are looking for a nice clean facility at a reasonable price give them a try. They always seem to be busy so they must be doing something right. more

Locust Run Kennels is an affordable clean kennel 10/23/2009

Have used them twice...definitely see no reason to pay through the nose for the special coddling care that the vet boarders give our dog. Like many other said, it's clean, the workers are friendly and I see no reason not to continue to go there. But thanks for the warning, James S.-I sometimes confuse my golden retriever with my toddler-not. more

Great Service 9/13/2009

We have two dogs and usually board them together. This time, the staff noticed the younger dog was knocking down the older dog who has problems with his hips now. They went ahead and separated them to allow our older dog some rest. They also gave our older dog a rubber mat, so he could stand up without sliding. They also provided him with his own blanket. He is also on medication which they gave to him every day. Thank you Locust Run Staff! Pros: Kind with older dogs more

We'll be going back 9/6/2009

We used Locust Run for years and have been happy with them. The kennels are always clean. No, they are not a pet resort where your dog will be pampered but you aren't paying pet resort prices either. We'll keep going back. more

Wonderful place to board your Family member! 9/3/2009

I strongly disagree with the negative reviews people have left about Locust Run Kennels in York, PA. I have been using this kennel for years with no ""accidents"" at all. Both of our dogs have been kenneled at this facility. We had one dog that had reoccurring seizures and they always gave him his medicine. Our new 70 lb. Lab puppy jumped out of the car window (while moving) and had a good deal of road rash and a sprained paw. We were to drop her off the very next day at Locust Run so we could go on vacation. I felt at ease knowing she would be well taken care of while we were gone. We called to check on her and we were assured she was fine and fine she was. When we picked her up, it was like nothing had happened. She was playful and happy. She also had a NEW toy in the cage with her. They didn't have to go and play with her or get her a new toy, but they did. Accidents happen no matter where you go. Dogs get sick lets face it. Is that the kennels fault?, I don't think so. That's like saying: ""I got a tooth ache on vacation, and It's the hotels fault."" Would you never go back to that same hotel? Come on people. If your dogs are like your babies, then why leave them at a kennel at all? Would you leave your kid at day care while you go on vacation if you could? No, you'd leave them with a family member. I strongly feel that Locust Run Kennel is her home away from home and she IS with family. She loves it there and gets so excited when we drive into the facility. She can't wait to get out of the car. My parents also use Locust Run Kennels for their dogs and have been for years also. They have never had a problem either! If you are looking for a very clean and friendly kennel, look no further. Locust Run Kennels is the best place for your pet, their home away from home! B. Jaskolka Pros: Caring family owned kennel Cons: NONE at ALL more
