Editorial review from Citysearch 4/8/2013

Most jewelers that I’ve dealt with in New York have acted like salesmen, making me feel like I didn’t know anything and they knew all. I did not feel this way at Little King. Every interaction my soon-to-be wife and I have had with the staff has been fun and easy. We came in to get my fiancé’s antique engagement ring resized (which they did with ease) and the following day we went back to order our wedding rings. We didn’t really know what we wanted, but we did have my fiancé’s late father’s wedding ring. Michael looked at it, and immediately grabbed one of the rings in a display cabinet. “Something like this?” he said, showing us a ring that had been fused together from two different metals. We immediately fell in love with the idea, and they trimmed the edges off our platinum ring, and made two rings for us: mine from the body of our ring with rose-gold melded onto the edges, and hers from a body of rose-gold, with the edges of her father’s ring. The rings came out beautifully and we’re so happy to have wedding rings infused with so much meaning. Oh, also everyone that works there is the nicest. The men, the Jennifers (both women are named Jennifer) and the dog, A.J. Just a really great New York shop. more

A True SoHo Gem 1/10/2012

I cannot say enough good things about Michael, the Jens, and the whole staff at Little King. They've been absolutely stupendous to work with, fantastically customer-focused, and extremely talented. They're thoughtful, great at following up on things, knowledgeable, and so much fun to be around that we honestly could've just hung out shooting the breeze with them all for hours. So customer-focused are they, that the last time we went to pick up our final products, they saw us pull up outside and had everything out and ready before we even walked in. Incredible 12/13/2011

I got my engagement ring at a local jewelry store in my neighborhood and it is antique rose cut that my fiance chose and had custom made. While I LOVED the ring there were a few issues that I had with the setting so I decided to go back and talk to the designer. I had met him briefly before and assumed that he would work with me and want to help me out. To make a long story short he was less than interested in helping me make any alterations. He simply tried to convince me that my ring was perfect the way it was and that it was what everyone these days wanted. Pros: null Cons: null more

Run, don't walk! 2/11/2011

I really love Little King. My fiance and I had our wedding rings made here (mine had diamonds for $2k and his was a custom band for $1k) and keep coming back! (Christmas earrings, and Valentine's Day/birthday necklace & belt buckle.) We didn't have a large budget, and they were so nice and accommodating every step of the way. (Like when we bring our gigantic stroller, and little guy : ) more

My first and only stop for the perfect engagement ring 8/28/2010

It was a rainy night earlier in the summer. A couple I know purchased their wedding bands at Little King and had a great experience. I made my way over to their East Village shop, down some small steps beneath a giant ring hanging out in front of the building. A four-story brick apartment building built in the 1950's. If you have never been to the East Village look it up. Home to beatniks, counterculture , protests and riots. It is also known as the birthplace and historical home of many artistic movements, including Punk Rock. It's a classic New York neighborhood and the owners of Little King fit right in. more

Lovely jewelry and people 3/14/2010

After a lot of research my husband and I went to Little King to get my engagement and wedding rings remade. The originals weren't really to my taste, which tend towards the very delicate. At first I was a little concerned by some of the pieces on their website that wouldn't suit me at all - like giant skull rings- but it is a testament to the Little King's versitility that I now wear some of the most lovely and delicate rings that get tons of compliments. The two owners Michael and his wife (Jen?) are very helpful, friendly and unprententious. They understand if you are on a budget and were very supportive of the fact that I actually wanted a very small ring even though that might cut into whatever profit that they could make.If I had any criticism, it would be that the process went a little slow, but since we were already married I wasn't in a huge hurry. Ended up going with one of their existing designs and the lovely rose gold that they sell. Really, we've never had an experience with a jeweler that made us feel remotely comfortable before this point and that really makes all the difference. I hope my husband goes back! Pros: Excellent customer service; unusual jewelry, original design Cons: A little slow and maybe a little disorganized more

Personal touch 11/30/2009

FYI: I have not yet purchased from Little King. I met these guys at a wedding salon in midtown. My partner and I visited their shop and were impressed with the range of styles and personal touch you can apply to your ring. The on site workshop and interactions with the craftsman gave us a good indication of their skills and personal touch. We are very excited to work with them and create our rings =) more

The perfect wedding band 11/25/2009

My fiance wanted a band to go with a leaf-and-vine estate ring that we chose as our engagement ring, and after conferring with Little King, we chose an exquisite rose gold version of a white gold ring they had on hand, delicate with intricate floral designs and a personal inscription. It is just perfect and bridges the New York scene where my fiance has spent her career with the Missouri farm (leaf-and-vine) where she grew up. We were looking for magic, and we found it, and creation of the ring and delivery was very prompt. Magic again. Pros: Beautiful design, sensitive sales people, fast delivery Cons: None more

I love their work! 8/26/2009

They do amazing custom designs here and their stones are very high quality. They helped my husband design a beautiful and unusual engagement ring that fits me perfectly. They made the perfect matching wedding ring for me based on a picture that I drew and were very patient with me even though I kept asking for things! They worked on it until I was happy and gave us a great deal. I will go to them forever! Pros: very skilled, helpful, patient, great quality Cons: none more

Nice pieces, slooow service 6/30/2009

Went here for an engagement ring. They were very friendly and low-pressure and had a design that I really loved. However, I would be very on top of them on any deadlines they promise to have things to you by -- I think it's definitely a case of the squeaky wheel getting the oil and if you let the store's very laid-back vibe lull you into thinking everything will be taken care of, it may take months and months to get your jewels. I came away with a really lovely ring, but went elsewhere when it came time to shop for the wedding bands. (DVVS in Chelsea. They're also very chill; don't do as much custom work, but are much more on top of things!) Pros: Very relaxed setting, friendly staff, unique baubles Cons: Flaky, disorganized, slow to get back to you more

Excellent Experience 3/2/2009

he experience was excellent. I went in with a budget for an engagement ring, and they were able to meet it with excellent and "traditional" materials. I needed an alternative to platinum, and they suggested palladium. Through their information and my own research, I found that palladium is one of 5 metals in the platinum family. It shares all of the same properties as platinum, except it is a bit lighter. Otherwise, it is just as strong and resistant, and it looks the same... same sheen etc. Also, i wanted a small diamond for taste and budget reasons. They were able to obtain 3 diamonds for me to choose from in a matter of 2 days. They were all of excellent quality... gorgeous. They simply don't put sub-par quality stones in their jewelry... they design everything, and they're not interested in representing their work with bad stones. So, basically, I purchased a beautiful palladium band, English Arts and Crafts style (or maybe Art Nouveau-ish) designed by them and adjusted for my small .45 carat diamond. The design is different but totally tasteful and timeless, NOT trendy. The diamond is amazing... a small one, but unbelievably reflective, sharp, and clear. They gave me an excellent, unique, artistic, and beyond-quality ring at my budget, and within 9 days from the moment I stepped through the door. Not to mention, they're cool folks that enjoy what they do... it's a comfortable experience! more

Nice people, nice custom made jewelry, but don't take antiques there! 12/23/2008

The people at Little King are very nice, and their custom made jewelry is their specialty. However, I would advise you to NOT take antiques there for sizing, repair, etc. Antique jewelry is not their expertise. They are well-meaning, but they can mislead you into thinking they know more about antique pieces than they actually do. A ring they confidently told me was cast in the 1940s or later was later appraised to be handmade from the turn of the century. Go to them for what they're good at! more

Forget 47th Street! 12/15/2008

If you're looking for a special piece of jewelry (bridal or otherwise) and want a low-pressure place with people that actually care about what you want, regardless of how small your budget is, go to Little King. Michael and Jennifer are wonderful. I went in a week before proposing to my girlfriend, explaining that I had her grandmother's diamond, which was set in a necklace, wanted to use that to propose and then bring my girlfriend back so she would have a say in the ring she would wear for the rest of her life (imagine that). Rather than push me to hurry up and get a ring because "that's what women want", she thought it was a great idea and made me feel totally relaxed about the process. We came back together the following week (she said 'yes' obviously) and looked through some options. Eventually, we decided that we were probably going to want to design our own setting, but we didn't have time to do that before going away for the holidays - and to see both of our families. Jennifer suggested taking the necklace setting and placing it as-is on a silver band as a temporary fix so that she'd have something on her finger. Sounded good. We got it back in two days and it was AMAZING. So much so that my fiance is considering keeping her ring like this and we would just switch the band for a white gold one. Knowing that we might actually like the "temporary" setting, they could have created something fine but not great in order to get us to go for the pricier option. Instead, they did fantastic work and they got it back to us so fast. No matter what we do with the engagement ring, we will definitely go back to talk to them about wedding bands. We can't recommend them highly enough. Pros: Great personal service, independent local vendor, unique inventory & design Cons: Not open on Monday or Tuesday more

Gorgeous custom jewelry and amazing service 4/30/2008

My boyfriend and I had been discussing rings for a few weeks when I stumbled upon Little King on this site. The reviews were so great and their website is so amazing that I knew I had to at least visit their shop. I had looked online exhaustively for rings, we went to the diamond district, Zales, you name it. Everything I tried on was lovely, but completely impersonal and overpriced. Nothing felt representative of us as a couple. Pros: selection of jewelry, service, craftsmanship Cons: none that I know of more

When you want something unique 4/13/2008

Michael and Jennifer at Little King are simply the best. Going to Little King is more like visiting friends than going to a business. We got our wedding rings and other items there, and each time we go they always remember us and take great care of us. Pros: Unique designs, helpful staff, will work within your budget. Cons: None. more

perfect job 4/12/2008

These guys are all great. Not only is friendly service is a given, but the quality and timeliness of their work is amazing. I recently went to them with a few vague ideas for an engagement ring for my fiancee and they helped me tremendously even suggesting customizing a ring meant for a differently cut diamond. Because my fiancee lives in Canada and my next trip was coming up, I had a very hard deadline for when the ring needed to be done and they easily beat the date. Most importantly, my fiancee loved the ring and is so happy! We're definitely going here to get our wedding bands...and I imagine much more jewelry in the future. Pros: service, craftsmanship Cons: the space is small so it can get pretty hectic sometimes - but they do their best and traffic ebbs and flows more

i cannot imagine going anywhere else for custom jewelry. they have everything and can do anything. and Michael & Jennifer are terrific people. GO!!, just to see the fascinating display cases. 3/29/2008
