Lion Food Center is one of the cheapest asian grocery store. It is close to Mitsuwa, Japanese grocery market and Lion Food Center sells foods much cheaper than Mitsuwa. And also, they sell the stuff not only from China but from various countries such as Vietnum, Thailand and Indonesia. They also sell ready-to-eat foods besides the store. Lion Food Center is always crowded and it even causes traffic in front of it. more

A little piece of Asia in my backyard 10/21/2005

The buyers for this grocery store certainly had their target demographic in mind when they stocked their shelves. I can always come here knowing that they will have everything I need to recreate the dishes from my childhood in Vietnam. Though cleanliness is not their number one priority and I am slightly dismayed at the quality of the tomatoes, I keep coming back. They stock a variety of instant noodles, asian snacks, asian drinks, and condiments. I am pleased with the freshness of the herbs and asian veggies. And they offer very reasonable (and I do stress reasonable) prices for protein staples such as seafood, pork, and chicken. The seafood has a high turnover, so you can be assured freshness. more

Free frying fish service 9/30/2005

Lion Food Center is also a good selection among Chinese supermarkets, although the size is smaller than Ranch 99. Some special prices in seafood are attracted me. Moreover, the free frying fish service is appreciated. There is a bakery next to the Lion. The selection in the bakery is less than Sheng-ji’s, but their products taste good. more

Good price 9/28/2005

This is one of my favorite Chinese supermarket. Though it is smaller than ranch 99, they still have a large selection of groceries and sometimes cheaper. I especially like their seafood. Most of them are fresh and cheap. The best part is they offer fish frying service that save me a lot of work. Besides, they also have a nice bakery. more

This is a Chinese Supermarket. It is the best Chinese grocery store that I know in the area. The fact that its Chinese means that the prices are lower, and I definitly like that! When you walk in a smell thats weird to an American hits you, but then you get used to it. They have absolutly everything a supermarket has; meats, seafood, vegetables, fruit, canned foods, etc. And it is as big as a regular supermarket too. An advantage over other stores is that when you buy a fish and they cut it up for you you can get it deep fried right then and there and take a hot meal home. more

Lion Food Center 8/17/2005

Kind of a smaller version of the Ranch 99 markets, Lion also has a good selection of packaged Asian food, fresh seafood, noodles and vegetables. They also have an attached bakery and hot food item section for a quick bite to eat. My only con on this and most other Asian markets is that they bag a lot of their vegatables into large quantities that I can't use before some of it spoils. more

Low prices at Asian Supermarket 8/14/2005

Asian supermarkets are known for lower prices than huge chains such as Safeway or Albertson's. Lion Food Center is, from what I usually buy, the cheapest of the Chinese/Asian supermarkets outside of the downtown SJ area. They have a fish frying service and a good selection of meats. It gets a bit crowded with narrow aisles and boxes of products everywhere. Another good thing is the eggs: never over 99 cents! more
