Best

I've been to Libation atleast 3 times now, the food is good the drinks are better, and that Hector (the waiter/bartender) is AMAZING!!!!! Great ambiance makes for a better experie...

Worst

First of all, they did not notify me when I made reservations that they are having a private event that night. They told me when we all sat down for dinner and told us we must be ...

amazing 9/8/2005

Id been hearing about Libation in the LES for a long time before i finally had to go down myself and take a look.Dont know what i waited for! This place has everything that is essential for a perfect night out. We were walkin down the bustling Ludlow street and was instantly blown away by the atmosphere inside this three level space. Beautiful design.Beautiful people and beautiful waitstaff! The bartenders behind the bar greeted me quickly and sold us amazing drinks off there surperb cocktail list. The crowd was lively and mixed, open and friendly. There was a Dj on each floor so when you went upstairs you got a different atmosphere . This was a saturday night and the party seemed to last forever............. more

Libation never disappoints!! 9/8/2005

I can never usually go back to a place more than once and always have a great time, except when I go back to Libation. I have been there many times since they opened and have never been disappointed. It is always great fun, from the food to the outstanding cocktails. Also the service seems to get better and better everytime I go back, if thats possible! If you haven't been, do yourself a favor and do so quick before this place gets to hot. Pros: Food, Drinks, Service more

Awesome!! 7/28/2005

Had a birthday party at Libation and could not rave about it more. From the time I called for a reservation till the night ended I was treated with total class. I went to them because I saw the Zagat Guide rated them one of the Hottest places in NY and I can see why. The food was great, the service exceptional and the dj and drummer they had playing kept the fun going all night. It's great to go to a hot club and not get the typical attitude most places give you. The bartenders actually look like they are having fun and act they they are doing you a favor by serving you. Highly recommend Libation. Pros: Friendly service, Great food, Fun music more

Great Birthday Spot!! 6/19/2005

Libations is the PERFECT birthday place. I was there on a Friday night and all my friends were let in at the door w/o a problem. Libations gave us the entire 2nd floor to use for my party, and I didn't even have to pay for the privilege. The bartenders served great cocktails, and the food is great too! For a no hassle birthday party, Libations is the spot!. more

Linebation 6/6/2005

The name of this place should be changed from Libation to LINEbation. If you enjoy waiting on LINES this place is for you. As you walk up to Libation you are greeted with a LINE that doesnt move because the bouncers are more than willing to let anyone who will slip them money cut in front of you, after waiting on LINE for a little less than an hour to get in, to check your coat a LINE, to go upstairs a LINE, to get a drink at the bar a LINE, and to use the bathroom yet another LINE. Even to exit the place there was a LINE. The only reason I tolerated wasting away on LINE was because it was a friend's birthday. My experience at Libations was very similar to one I had at a place called DMV except that the LINES at the DMV moved faster. Cons: crowed, long lines more

Love It, go drink here!!!! 4/18/2005

This place is the one reason I would hang down here. The service was second to none. The staff treated my party with such class and distinction that I am telling everyone in my office about this gem of a bar! They even gave me a follow up call the next business day with regards to the service. Who does that?!?! I was very impressed and I will now become a regular at Libation. The beef wellington is awesome as well as the filet mignon/foie gras mini-burgers!!! You must go!! Go with a party, they are professionals!! Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere Cons: Location? more

Best new spot on the L.E.S 4/1/2005

Now, I have always been a huge fan of the L.E.S. The people seem much friendly than the rest of the areas in NYC, and the crowds are usually very laid-back and chill. This place, Libation, combines the cool atmosphere of the L.E.S. with a mega-posh ambiance to create an almost too good to be true scene. The bouncers at the door are friendly, there's usually no cover, and it's three floors! Plus, there is great music, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the dance floor on the third floor is immense! This place is a hidden gem in the LES and in NYC overall. Forget paying the 20 dollar cover or getting rejected by some big mean bully bouncer, come out to this amazing club for a great experience of the NYC nightlife. This is one of the best clubs I've been out to in NYC. Pros: great ambiance, beautiful people, great music Cons: can't think of any more

Wow!! 3/30/2005

This is one of the best places I have been to in NY. Met some friends for a birthday party, the food was outstanding and the service was friendly. Later the place started rocking, great music and crowd. This is just what the LES needed. It's great to hit all the music bars in the area but have a nice place to meet before or after. Awsome place to have a party- three floors -three bars. Pros: great food, nice crowd, cozy decor more

the music is AWESOME 2/20/2005

Went last Thursday on a first date but he was late. So I just sat at the bar and ordered some drinks. Found my self chair-dancing to the awesome music the DJ was playing ALL BY MY SELF! By the time he got there, I was so in to the vibe I didn't wanna leave. So we ended up partying there until about 2AM. The DJ rocked the house with his mixing - from hiphop and rnb to 70s and 80s disco and then back to hiphop. It was amazing just how smooth his mixing was! I highly recommend this place for an after-work rendez-vous, if not for the food, then at least for the music! Will definitely be back next Thursday. I don't understand what all the negative reviews are, you don't like this type of bar, just don't go. Stick to your Max Fish routine! Pros: music, vibe, ambience Cons: no dancefloor more

Don't bother 2/19/2005

Like so many others, I too was intruiged by this new "Irish pub/dance club" opening its doors on the LES. I wish I never would have stepped foot inside. The people were pretentious and pushy. We were kicked out of our table by rude staff and replaced by a party ordering "bottle service" (a bottle of mediocre champagne). In one of the highlights of the evening, a waitress spilled AN ENTIRE TRAY of drinks on my friend and didn't so much as mumble an apology after doing so. The $10 cover, the tube tops, the cheesy decor -- if you're looking for a Manhatta on a smaller and less successful scale, this place is for you. If you're after a place with all of the charm, originality, and character that gives the Lower East its special flavor, do your self a favor and walk on by. Pros: mixed crowd Cons: rude service, crowded more

Not what it seems! 2/12/2005

Waited for about a half hour to get in. Figured a three level bar in LES would be cool. NOT COOL. way too crowded downstairs, nothing upstairs--nothing! more

Awesome 2/11/2005

Went to Libation on Saturday. Beautiful Space. We had Bottle Service in the Mezzanine Lounge. A Balcony overlooking the entire restaurant. Cool Space. Beautiful waitress took good care of us. Great Music too. more

Doesn't Fit 2/10/2005

This place doesn't fit in the neighborhood. When I was inside, I couldn't help but think I was at an after work bar in midtown, by Times Square. Music was no good either. If you're dying for a midtown bar feel and 4 large screens showing sports, and overpriced bar food, you might find what you're looking for. I also mentioned the Citysearch coupon buy one tapas get one free, and they said I must have the actual coupon in hand. I guess, but that was kind of a cheap move on their part. more

Couldn't pay me to go back! 2/10/2005

Felt like a cheesy after work bar for bridge and tunnel folk. With so many truly great place in this neighborhood why waste your time here. more

Boo! 2/10/2005

I echo the sentiments of the people who do NOT recommend this place. I think all of the highly recommended reviews are written by uptown people travelling downtown for a LES experience. I'm not trying to act above that type of bar, but the feel, the crowd, the music, the prices are extremely Uptown. It sticks out like a sore thumb in this area. Tapas were expensive and not flavorful, drinks were OK. Music was pop. They had 4 big screen TVs if you would rather watch TV than actually go to a bar and talk to people. more

This place is so overrated!! 2/9/2005

Yes, its rare that you find a tri-level bar in LES, but it's not until you go in that you realize the 2nd floor is barely a floor because it only has a few tables and the 3rd floor's closed for private parties. Everyone else is confined to the main floor that accommodates about 50 comfortably. The space is narrow so it gets crowded fast--you can barely move around. Most people couldnt even get in, even though they were on the list. If youre ok with the space, then you might have a better time than I did. But the crowd/service may also deter you. Some of the people youre likely to encounter there: the obnoxious banker-type; the drunk chickenhead; and the snooty wannabes who need an attitude check. Also, if you book a table for a large group, expect to be seated at least an hour late. Pros: Private parties Cons: Very crowded, Snotty crowd, Rude bouncers more

A Perfect Date Place 2/6/2005

Extremely friendly and informative service, gorgeous staff, delicious cocktails. Tapas plates are pretty small so order at least 2 per person for dinner. Trendy, yet unpretentious Pros: Great cocktails, beautiful waiters Cons: Pricey, distracting TVs more

food,drinks,atmosphere - love it! 1/26/2005

This new trendy place (all 3 floors) is BEAUTIFUL. It's a hopping club, and also a wonderful dinner spot. The food is inventive, delicious and reasonably priced. You can sit at the bar and drink specialty cocktails, or sample a few single malt scotches. The staff is efficient, professional and very sociable. They can help you choose the perfect glass of wine to complement your dinner. Then, around 11:30, the place starts to fill up and the party begins. The private party room on the 3rd floor is awesome, with its own bar and DJ booth. You can hang at the bar on the second floor, and have a bird's eye view of the whole club. Great music, great drinks, great people. Libation will bring a whole new crowd to the Lower East Side. more

Perfect Mixture 1/8/2005

This place has finally done what others have only attempted. It perfectly mixes good food and drinks with an unbelievable club atmosphere. When I went recently the drinks and food were great and the prices were low for NYC. The music was awesome and the waiteress and bartenders catered to our every need. I have gone back and it was just as good. Don't wait until everyone knows about this place! Pros: drinks, service, food more

Stay Stylized 1/4/2005

Yes, the owners are my boys so I don't normally throw the "shout out" often but this place, service wise will be top notch. Not to mention the off the hook decor. These guys like to keep service the #1 priority, alla Failte Irish Whiskey Bar. In other words, they keep it tight. Check it out. Players only need apply. P.S. Feel free to Stylize your beverage anyway you like. Pros: owners more

Editorial
  • A stylish mega-club springs to life on Ludlow Street, whether the neighborhood wants it or not. A crowd of 20-somethings who've just started to make it packs all three levels. Warm, rich amber tones dominate the soaring ground floor, which boasts a long bar and seating area. A VIP and private party balcony overlooks the bar and hosts a DJ playing rock and hip-hop selections. The third floor swarms with warm bodies getting down. Young fashion-magazine assistants searching for the perfect junior fund manager need look no further. Impress that new catch with a treat off the cocktail list. While the East Side--a mix of gin, mint, cucumber and soda--sounds appealing, the classic margarita delivers a more satisfying liquid experience (and maybe even a phone number).
