Pho Hoa 4/15/2006

Pho Hoa is located near Argyle in Vietnamese town in Chicago, Illinois. It is one of the best places to get authentic Pho (Vietnamese noodles) in Chicago with all the cilantro, tons of fresh bean sprouts, lime juices, chili sauce, basil, jalapeno peppers, and hoisin sauce. The pho comes in two sizes, small and large, and are very reasonable priced. A typical meal for two people will cost $15. more

Limited Menu, Questionable Chicken 9/25/2005

I went to this pho place on the recommendation of a friend who said it was better than the rest of the pho restaurants in the Little Saigon area, and I hope that's not the case! The menu was extremely limited, with no options for vegetarians and only one chicken option (the rest were beef and pork). I ordered the chicken pho, which came in a bowl as usual and consisted of salty broth, noodles, onions, and various chicken cuttings both light and dark meat, and including a few bones and lots of fat - not trimmed at all, no care for what got thrown in. There were only two sizes, and I got the small, which was more than enough in both size and quality. The only think that made my pho edible was copious amounts of plum sauce, which cut the saltiness. Every other spoonful contained a piece of chicken that I wasn't sure I wanted to eat. My dining partner had beef pho, and said it was tasty if guilty of my similar complaint of being indiscriminate with the cuttings. The saving grace of the meal was the very tasty pineapple bubble tea, which was the same price as it was everywhere else on the block but seemed a lot smaller in size. The tapioca pearls were cooked just enough to be chewy but not falling apart. The entire place is a smoking section, and you will find smokers there. This sort of ruined the atmosphere for me; it was pretty gross. more

Pho Hoa 9/14/2005

This is the place for indecisive people. They have the tiniest menu for main course eatery. You can order maybe a variety of 5 different noodle dishes, and in two sizes only. The menu states very clearly of what' the item is, what it consist of, and who should try it. more

Small place for largely satisfying meals 8/12/2005

Pho Hoa is located right on the corner of Broadway and Argyle next to a grocery store, and I have to say it's my favorite of the Pho in Vietnamese town. Depending on your level of comfort, you can try the basic pho with beef or get the works with tripe, meatballs, tendons... you get the point. The large bowl is enough to satisfy a hungry grown man/woman, and you might want to get a small if you're just kinda hungry or if it's your first Pho experience. I recommend adding all the condiments (the way I was taught my first time), the hot sauce, plum sauce, a drizzle of fish oil, and definitely don't forget the lime and cilantro. Just thinking about it makes me hungry! The best part is that it's conveniently located near an L stop or near parking, which can be tricky on weekends. The place is fairly small, and the atmosphere is casual, usually a good place to go with small groups of friends or one other person. The pricing is just right at about 6 bucks a bowl. You'll have to try it for yourself. SOOOooo good. more
