great food, but try it for lunch! 12/28/2006

A fabulous restaurant, its a bit pricey in the evenings, or if you order very special cuts of prime rib, but for lunch, you can get a full turkey dinner including all the trimmings for $13! prime rib sandwiches are similarly priced, as are prime rib dishes. If you visit often enough the staff gets to know you and the service is always great. more

Great Steak! 12/10/2006

This is a great restaurant, they have an extensive menu and their steak is obviously great! They always send us coupons in the mail where you can get like a 5 course meal for $85 a couple or something like that! The only thing that scares me is that they had two carbon monoxide leaks within a week a while.. it makes me a little weary to go back but the food is way too good to stop eating here! more

This is my favorite restaurant in Chicago. I love everything about it including the atmosphere and the food. Each time I go to Chicago, Lawry's is on the must visit restaurants list. If you do not like prime rib, this is not for you. They only serve prime rib and usually one fish item. But when you can specialize in one thing, you should be expected to do it right. I do not feel the prices are too extravagant, but it is not a restaurant you want to visit if you are on a strict budget. more

  • The Scene
    A pair of brass lions guards the expansive main dining room, dominated by dark wood, tapestry-backed booths, chandeliers and oversize brass-studded leather chairs. Frequent camera flashes signal birthdays and anniversaries.

    The Food
    Choose from six juicy aged and roasted prime-rib cuts, seasoned with Lawry's salt and sliced to order from roll-top stainless-steel carts. Bone-in options tend to add fat, so if you're looking for a plateful, try the "beef bowl" cut. The Lawry cut (with bone or without) is a happy medium. Whipped-cream horseradish provides sweet accompaniment. Dinners include "spinning" salad, creamy mashed potatoes with gravy and Yorkshire pudding. You'll feel pressured to order a la carte sides--try garden-fresh, plump buttered peas. For dessert, the signature chocolate bag is a must-try, filled with fluffy white-chocolate mousse and ripe, flavorful berries.
