Best

Don't expect fast service ... that said... this is the best burger in town. Eating a Soldier Burger with an extra egg and bacon is the way I want to die.

Worst

We first tried this legendary place a few weeks after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives aired the segment filmed here, and the line was far too long to wait for a burger. So we went to...

What I love about this place is that they have so many fruits and vegetables in here. I am trying to live a little healthier now and this place really helps. more

I really go here for the prices. They have some low prices in here and it really helps me on planning ahead with my expenses. Places like this should be everywhere. more

The people that work here are so kind and always smile on the customer, which is a good thing because they represent this place. more

The Emperor has no Flavor 4/19/2010

We first tried this legendary place a few weeks after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives aired the segment filmed here, and the line was far too long to wait for a burger. So we went to Christian's Tailgate where we were blown away by the tasty burgers. Today we were excited to be in the area again, because it was a Monday, and rainy and late in the lunch hour! We did get the last indoor table and placed our order for the regular cheese burger and the Southwest burger topped with avocado and pico. We were so disappointed. The buns were too big, the meat too well done and dry, the lettuce all fell off. Never really found any noticeable pico on the Southwest. Just didn't have the heart to finish it. The Tex Mex fried onions and jalapenos we shared were substantial, but the onions were anemic and the jalapeno strips scarce. I hate it when a legend doesn't measure up to its reputation. We both gave it a 5 on a scale to 10. Pros: Quick, Friendly service Cons: Reign in your DDD fervor more

Good food horrible service 1/17/2010

I was so excited to try Lankford because I heard so many good reviews from it. I was quite confused when I entered the door because I did not know how the system worked. Once my boyfriend and I found a table it took about 5 minutes for someone to ask us for a beverage. I noticed that we were getting the least attention out of everyone in the restaurant (we are Asian). The waitresses were smiling to everyone but us. Whenever I received my burger, instead of medium, it was practically rare. We had other friends come in after us and it took them almost 20 minutes to be asked what to order. We have 3 different waitresses because the first one never came back, the second one we had to go up to and ask if we could order she also never came back, and the third one gave my second group of friends their food. Without even saying a comment, my friends also noticed they were being a little racist. Considering we were the only Asians in the whole joint, we were given the least amount of service. I would come again just because although the burger was rare, the flavor is just right. The onion rings are delicious. At least next time I will not be expecting great service and will not come completely starving since it will take 40 minutes for a waitress to come ask if I would like some water. Pros: Great flavor Cons: poor service and a little racist more

Good 12/14/2009

I got an old-fashioned bacon cheeseburger with the Tex-Mex, fried onion and jalapeno strips. The bacon was a good choice and the toppings were heaping. But the cheese and seasoning didn't do it for me, neither did the the Tex-Mex side. Pros: Quirky Cons: Cheese more

Good Old Fashioned Hamburger 11/28/2009

Great Hamburgers and they are way too big for me to finish. Place is old with some patched up furniture and that is how they can keep their price down. If that bother you then this is not the place for you. The services are good. We got there on a Saturday morning around 11:00. Place is not crowded and we got our food in a reasonable time. This is going to be one of our favorite places for a good old fashioned hamburger. Pros: Food Cons: Amenities more

good stuff 11/20/2009

4 coworkers and i had lunch on a nice friday. the food was very good the burgers very tastie. we all enjoyed the sides. the onion rings we great. more

Dirty 10/16/2009

The glasses with old food stuck to them were a nice touch to start out the experience. The table which was beyond filthy.. ugh. We asked to get it cleaned, she starts wiping it down, throwing the dirty food in our laps, almost on purpose it seemed. \r \r Food wasn't that great. No need to go back. It's not worth the block and a half you get to walk since there is zero parking. If i lived across the street from this place, i'd go. I sure wouldn't go seek it out if I were you. Cons: Cash only, parking, dirty, no elbow room more

Lankford Grocery 9/26/2009

I grew up eating these burgers, and for decades not once did they displease, every bite enjoyable. Due to various circumstances I moved, but when I return I make it a point to return to this ""LG"" at least once per visit. I normally order a burger with fried onions, guacamole and cheese, a belt buster for sure, but when you eat it once or twice a year, not so bad. This last time had me glaring at my burger mouth agape. Before even making carbon contact with my burger, I was shocked to see the new staff. Traditionally, the place was a few people who had a common physical appearance led by a woman who was clearly a maternal leader. My burger arrived to me in patches. Rather than the grilled sponge of grease that was the patty, I was given a dry flake of grey, the cheese cold and hard, bun dry and stale, onions raw, with the little semi visible tendrils of grey oozing from their creases and the final straw, an avocado half, unsliced except for the initial incision and barely pitted, little tufts of lightish brown left behind creating an unpleasant crunch. It was with a heavy heart not caused by the ancient trans-fats sitting in their deep fryer, because of this a decades old client is bidding you farewell forever, pity. Pros: Close Proximity to residence Cons: Poor/Slow Service, new staff. more

Waste of time 9/7/2009

I had heard about what great burgers they served. What a disappointment. Took forever to even get our food because the ""kitchen got messed up"". Everyone seated after us already had their food. They didn't have any chicken and one of our party wanted a grilled chicken sandwich. Also didn't have any french fries - that's totally weird. The burger was way overcooked, too dry and absolutely no flavor. My husband couldn't even eat half of it. Service was slow but I do appreciate that the servers are doing the best they can based on how crowded and tight the place is. Burgers at McDonalds have more flavor and at least they have fries. Will never go again. Can't understand what the attraction is. The cashier couldn't even add up our ticket correctly! Pros: quaint concept for a restaurant Cons: way too crowded but that's not their fault more

great food, hardworking staff 8/17/2009

I am replying back to the person who commented on the waitstaff at Lankford's (Robin) She is a hard working waitress, who works her tail off for the customers. She may at times seem aggravated, but that is just part of her charm. She means no harm! If you had to wait on the amount of people that the waitstaff at Lankford's does, believe me u might get a little overwhelmed at times yourself. AND U who called her names, U KNOW WHO U ARE, u should feel ashamed. Maybe she was just frustrated and having a bad day. We all have those once in awhile. We are only human! Anyways, we at Lankford's do the best we can with the staff we have. We do our best to take care of our customer's and would appreciate it if U guys could understand how busy we have been. We are not a fast food place, all our food is made to order. So if u are in a big hurry, maybe we are not the place for u. We try our very best to please all of our customers, that is our top priority. So please just try to bare with us, we are trying to make some changes, to ensure good customer service. \r \r Thanks, The Lankford Staff Pros: home cooked food, best burger in town Cons: nothing, the food is worth the wait! more

Did not live up to the hype 8/15/2009

I was very excited to finally try a burger at Lankford Grocery. I've read that the burgers are unbeatable. I found my burger to be in great need of seasoning and dry. We were seated for about 10 minutes before our order was taken. It was not worth the hour drive for this meal. Cons: disappointing food, doesn't accept credit cards more

The food is pretty good but the staff are rude 7/20/2009

I have eaten here a few times b/c the food is good and cheap but that does not give them the right to be rude. It's not the whole staff just some crusty old prune named Robin. You will notice her but all the scabs and bandages on her arms and she looks like a 3 pack a day smoker. This old ""B"" is just down right rude. As she came by the throw my food on the table she barked ""take your feet off the booth"" and just walked away. Then she never returned until some other lady yelled to back ""Robin, register"" about 4 times till the troll creeped back up front. I have been in the hospitality business for the past 15 years and can honestly say Lankford is clueless about customer service. Another interesting fact to note is they only take cash. In my experience this is automatic sign of a small business padding their reported sales to the tax bureau. People give this place high rating b/c they think it some hidden gem in Montrose. I would not recommend this place until they put some of that cash back into the falling down building or train their waitstaff to at least be up to McD's standards. Pros: Decent food at a good price Cons: RUDE STAFF more

Great food, bad service 1/12/2009

I agree with some of the other reviews. The food is great...good old greasy burgers and southern cooking, but the service is not very good because the place is small and busy. It takes them a long time to clean off the tables. You'll never get a drink refill. Everyone there is really nice, but they're just under-staffed! Pros: stick-to-your-ribs kind of food Cons: service, parking more

Great food/bad service 9/8/2008

Lankford has awesome hamburgers, fries are greasy. NO parking, the service is horrible mainly because it is so busy. The place is very small so you might have to sit outside or wait to get a table. refills on drinks forget about it, time you finish your meal is when they come around to fill up your cup. hamburger is around 5$ add fries for $2 and drink is around $2 also. Pros: Great FOOD Cons: Service, parking more
