STAY AWAY! 8/11/2011

All I can say is ""Booooooo!"" I am also a victim of the voucher deal. I bought two vouchers last year and have not yet been able to redeem either. I followed their rules and made my reservations 6 weeks in advance and waited my turn. The day before my reservation they called and said there were mechanical issues with the boat. I said OK, please assist me in rescheduling and they said ""get back in line!"" SERIOUSLY?!?! I already waited 6 weeks the first time. So, like a good girl I got back in line and made another reservation for 6 weeks out. My reservation was scheduled for this weekend and this time I didn't even get a phone call... I got an email saying the boat I reserved is having mechanical issues... AGAIN!? REALLY!?! The single saving grace was that I contacted the voucher issuer and they have graciously refunded my purchase. I highly recommend everyone stay away from Lake Toys... what a rinky dink operation!!! more

You're Better Off Buying a Canoe 7/27/2011

If I could give them a negative value, I would. Let me list the reasons: 1. Management is clueless and unprofessional 2. The boats are in poor shape and often not functional 3. The reservation system does not reflect true availability 4. They have poor customer service 5. I waited for a month for my two reservations and got to use neither of them. Here is my experience: The marketing person that I spoke to directed me to the wrong marina on Lake Austin. He didn't even know what marina they boats were slipped at. I had to take a ""boat training"" before going out the boats and an ""additional boat training"" in order to take out the Formula. After setting up a time when both types of boats that I had to get cleared on were available at Lake Travis, I drove out to the marina. Only the Formula was available. The wakeboard boat had been taken out for the evening and the person that I had confirmed with only 1/2 hour before was not aware of that. Then, I drove the boat for about 20 minutes and took it back in. Because I live near downtown, the entire trip ate up about 2 hours of my time and I didn't even get cleared off on the type of boat that I was planning on using the most (the wakeboard boats). I set up another time to do the wakeboard training on Lake Austin. I showed up there at 8 am on Monday and there was no one there. When I called the contact person, they said that no one was going to show and that it would be okay to take the boat out on my reservation the next day without doing the training.... An entire morning of my time off work trying to accomplish a task that they set up that was unnecessary. I called my contact at Lake Toys at noon to make sure that my boat would be available the next day and he assured me that it was. Some of my friends had asked for the morning off from work so that we could go out on the boat. About 1 hour later, a manager called me to say that I couldn't take the boat out because it was damaged. They offered no replacement and informed me that they would be taking all of the boats off of Lake Austin. On Thursday, I called to confirm that I still had reservations on the Formula on Lake Travis on Sunday. This was a bigger ordeal because I had out of town guests coming to spend a day on the lake. Once again, I was assured that there were no problems with the reservation. Once again, I received a call less than an hour after this reassurance to say the boat was damaged and I could use it. So, to summarize: One month of waiting on reservations. Two mornings off of work Two hours of drive time and training Two cancelled reservations with short notice and no follow through. Zero hours on boats with my friends. Avoid this business at all costs. more

poor mainteance and bad customer service 5/9/2011

We bought the living social coupon for this and used it on Easter weekend. We told them we had 7 people and wanted to water ski and pull a tube. They were nice enough at the beginning and we took off. Found out quickly that the boat speedometer was broken and the boat would only go approx. 20mph. Not running well and could not get enough power to pull up a small experienced skier and could only pull a tube if we got 3 people off the boat. Called the owners and asked if we could exchange for another boat as this one needed maintenance. No can do. Was really frustrated but tried to make the best of a family day at lake. Kids were bored with low speed and we returned the boat over an hour early. Told owner/manager that we were not happy with the experience and he told me that I only paid $100 so I got my moneys worth! Would not do anything else. Really rude and would not rent from these guys ever again at regular prices. Go to Just for Fun if you want to rent a boat by the hour. Have used them for years and never had a bad expereince! \r more
