Appalling management and disappointing customer service experience 2/27/2009

My friends and I have been loyal customers of La Terrasse for the past 8 years and we usually get burgers there. A lot of times we'll get one that's undercooked from what we ordered, but we've never felt strongly enough to complain about it before. But this past time, I received a burger that was too underdone for me to eat (still mooing) so I initially asked them to just cook it a little more and bring it back. Instead, after a couple back and forths, they ended up giving me one even bloodier burger and one really rubbery, odd tasting burger that looked cooked on the inside but didn't have any char on the outside, so I asked to cancel my order. When we received the bill, I saw I was being charged for the burger so I told the server that I felt I shouldn't have to pay since I didn't receive what I had asked for. At that point, the manager came over and rather than being apologetic about me not being able to eat, she was quite confrontational and angry that I had cost them 3 meals worth of food. I really was taken aback by this because she was accusing me as if it was my fault the burgers were not cooked properly. The manager also insisted that burgers are supposed to be rubbery when they are well done, which I found hard to believe since I've eaten literally hundreds of burgers in my life, many of them at La Terrasse, and I've never encountered a burger like that one except when I've reheated one in the microwave. Not to mention the fact that I hadn't ordered a well done burger in the first place. This was the first time I had ever felt that the food was so inedible that I had to send it back and it was also the first time I'd ever spoken to the manager, who was a woman with long blond hair who didn't give me her name. After this experience where I was treated so rudely, I'm not sure if I can ever go back to La Terrasse or recommend this place to anyone if they treat their customers like this. Very disappointing. Pros: Close to campus, food can be good when made properly Cons: Rude management, inconsistent food more

Its not exactly french, and its not exactly fine, but sometimes it can be fine. 3/9/2008

I've been to 10 university dinners and lunches at the Terrasse lately - so I can testify that the french fries are good, the mediterranean pasta and clams are pretty good, the steak is a little off, they are not so good with burgers, or sandwiches of any kind - and that it can get fairly loud during dinner, and because they enormous chairs and little space, the waiters are constantly bumping into your chair... The meals are expensive, and they don't offer the basics, good french bread, nor good duck. Pros: french food in west philly Cons: see review more

Not worth it 7/12/2007

I have always heard from people that it is not worth it to come here. However since it was one of the few restaurants left around Penn campus that I've yet to try, I gave it a go. I should have listened to other people about this place. The menu was pretty small, and the price was too much for what it is. My friends and I are not impress. Pros: Close to campus Cons: pricey more

Ripped us off 6/22/2007

The service was not so great- the waiter forgot what we have ordered. We went there with a company of people during the happy hours. We ordered nachos- not only that these nachos were the worst I have ever eaten in my life but this small plate cost $9. And the vine was quite expensive too (although was a cheap kind) and it was $6 per half of a glass including the happy hour discount. Don't go there! There is a better place just around the corner- Mad Max and they always have happy hour discounts for drinks and food and their nachos weight and taste much better and it's not expensive at all. Also, there were not enough seats for all of us and they would not even let us take extra seats from other tables. We should have left right away! more

was very pleased with visit 1/15/2007

checked out La Terrasse, sat at the bar, service was friendly and prompt. Ordered Little Neck Clams in white, which were the best I've had in years. Enjoyed it so much, I brought that special someone back a few nights later, second trip was only an improvement upon the first. The ambience in the dining room was quiet and comfortable, service was again friendly and prompt. The dinner menu had so many good choices, had Risotto and Seafood Crepe, were absolutely delighted, and will definately return to sample remainder of menu more

Very slow and mediocre food 1/11/2007

This restaurant is located in a place where it does a great deal of lunch business. However, they are incapable of bringing food to the table in a timely fashion. Even if one impresses upon the waiter that one is in a hurry, it can easily take 30 mins for a salad or sandwich to show up. In addition, many of the menu items bear no resemblance to what the dish normally is. For example, the Salade Nicoise I recently had was a big plate of mixed spring greens (no spinach) with a few canned pitted olives, no egg, no anchovies, and some slices of seared tuna with Cajun seasoning (!!) on the side. My companion's Cobb Salad bore no resemblance to any Cobb Salad I've seen before and also consisted of a big plate of mixed greens with some blue cheese and bits of chicken sprinkled on it. When we remarked on this (we thought they had gotten the orders wrong) it was very clear that the waiter clearly had no idea what the dishes "classically" look like. One only gets a license to be creative in menus if one can actually cook well. Do yourself a favor and give it a miss. Pros: Convenience for UPenn people Cons: Overpriced, slow service, below average food more

Wonderful Dinner 11/4/2006

Food was outstanding, service was superb! Wonderful menu, delicious martinis. Cannot wait to try it again! Pros: Food was outstanding, Great Martinis more

very good 8/10/2006

I eat there many times, and everytime I went there we ordered appatizers and we loved it! the only thing which I do not like is their bread, which is a way too salty, but except this I loved it. I would suggest the cheese and fruits appatizers which is awesome, you can choose from different cheese, there was really great. The service is really nice and helpfull. We love the terrace on the back after work it's so great! more
