Best

The best atmosphere, the best (and largest) traditional margaritas and the best chicken mole, what more could you ask for?

Worst

This place has an interesting menu, but, I think it is somewhat overated. The service is slow, the restaurant isn't very roomy. Overall it was an average restaurant.

Poor food experience 4/15/2012

We had guests from out of state in town and they had heard about La Fogata, We really wanted to go Rosario's but decided to go here instead. Big mistake. The food was mediocre at best, which is not good in a town like SA. The shrimp nachos were completely soggy when they came to the table...You had to eat them with a spoon. My guests had enchiladas and they didn't even hardly touch them because they were so bland. Perhaps at one time La Fogata was a great food establishment, but obviously not now. more

IT IS NOT GREAT AS I HAVE EXPECTED 1/1/2012

We were searching the best Margarita in San Antonio so we decide to give La Fogata a try. We asked for an outdoor seating and ended up seated in a place covered with a big tent which I do not consider outdoor. We had a very attentive waiter, the salsa was good and the food came out piping hot. We ordered the Top Shelf Margarita which was good but I have better elsewhere. For meal we had the Picadillo Enchiladas and Chile Relleno with Beef Picadillo. The Rice, Borracho Bean and Chile Relleno are all very bland. The enchiladas are average. The food is kind of pricy. We will continue our search elsewhere. By the way we prefer Rosario?s on S Alamo Street than La Fogata. more

customer service A-1 12/16/2011

could not asked for a better place to eat..i Will be back more

I really expected more from this restaurant. 9/30/2011

My actual rating would really be about 2.5 stars--mainly for atmosphere and service. We had a group event (about 18-20 people) at this place so I got the opportunity to eat at this place for the first time. When you enter this place--you really feel like you're at one of those seaside resorts with a restaurant. Very festive like another reviewer said. The place is very clean and there's a lot of space to talk with friends/family if you're waiting to be seated. I'm sure the outdoor seating is nice during cooler weather. We lucked out, because got their around 5:30p--before the weekend real dinner rush. Once seated--the waiters took our orders for drinks and food. Both came relatively quick--probably because the place was not yet crowded with people. I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla Plate, but it was far from what I expected. It was more like a chicken fajita plate with rice, beans lettuce and guacamole (like what you would get at Taco Cabana) and ice tea for $18.25 (with 20% gratuity 6+ people). This plate included one small tortilla with some chicken in it, a little bit of rice and beans and just enough lettuce/guacamole to fill a taco. That was it. Too much $$ for too little. There are other better places to get Mexican food. Don't let this place make you form an negative opinion about the quality of Mexican food served in San Antonio. If you don't care about the food (or want to save money)--you're better off going to a Taco Cabana and ordering a Chicken/Beef Fajita Plate. At least you get two soft tacos with chicken/beef, a good helping of beans, rice and condiments at two extra soft tortillas and a large tea for half the price and you don't even have to leave a tip. I probably won't be going out of my way to revisit this restaurant. more

Good Mexican Resturant 8/10/2011

My family went to San Antonio on vacation and while there we ate at La Forgata Mexican Resturant. The resturant was decorated beautifuly. The waitstaff was nice. The margaritas were great!. I had the Polo Loco and the chicken was grilled to perfection. Will go back when in town. more

never again 8/3/2011

The only thing this place has to offer is the setting/atmosphere...well, and the service was somewhat okay. more

Wonderful atmosphere -- worth the wait! 4/19/2011

Took my family and niece for a taste of good mexican food. The wait was long but we were seated long before what we were told. We ate outside and enjoyed awesome margaritas -- the mango margarita is outstanding! I thought the fajitas needed some seasoning and my daughter's appetizer had to be sent back. The kitchen never did get it right but they happily adjusted our bill. more

Mostly very good... only a few things not so good 7/10/2010

This is a pretty place to visit and to bring friends from out of town even if it's too hot in the summer to dine outdoors during the day. It's like visiting a little village! The food is always at least decent and even pretty terrific depending on what you order. Yes, the margaritas are good and I mean the regular ones that aren't full of the extra this and that, are good! Service is good. Its sad to read that some people have experienced otherwise. So, other than the hot summer afternoons, I think the chips are stale and this should be very easy to fix. Pros: pretty surroundings, good margaritas, decent mexican food Cons: stale chips more

A San Antonio Classic 5/16/2010

This is where I bring people from out of town when they want authentic Mexican food. The atmosphere and staff are very welcoming and the food never dissappoints. (OK, once I had the mole and I didn't like it, but that's when I learned I don't like mole) Viva La Fogata Pros: Food, Atmosphere, authentic more

Very Upset Long Time Customer 5/10/2010

I have been coming to La Fogata since I was a little girl, I'm in my thirties now. My father, who the staff knows by name brings clients here. This past weekend while waiting, we had a cocktail waitress pad our bill so much that it was over $100 for 7 margaritas. She didn't bring the itemized receipt and looked nervous when she brought the bill. We overhead the table next to us and this happened to them also. When did the staff become so dishonest?! I am extremely disappointed. Pros: Atmosphere and Food Cons: Cheated by Staff more

Decent Food 8/9/2009

Nothing really stood out. The service was a bit slow, and our waiter seemed to be forgetful. The food was pretty good, but the chips were a bit stale. Pros: Good frozen margaritas Cons: Service was a little slow more

Awesome patio and great food 4/20/2009

One of the best if not the best patios in town. Love the tacos nortenos. Also the mole enchiladas rock the house. more

Excellent Experience! 1/14/2009

Wow, it was REALLY good! Had the ceviche, rajas chile pablano, enchiladas mixtas, and the margarita. Excellent across the board. Service was top notch Very friendly. Prompt. Plenty of parking. I went ""off-peak"" hours...so lunch / dinner must be busy (longer wait). But either way, wait or no wait...definitely worth it! Highly recommend La Fogata...and will be back. Pros: Margaritas, Ceviche, Enchiladas, Service... Cons: None Noted more

Great Food, Atmosphere and Margaritas 3/11/2008

Nestled between I 10 and 410 on Vance Jackson, La Fogata is one of the premier Mexican Food Restaurants in San Antonio. Upon arrival, you stroll into a bustling courtyard complete with fountains and patio ware not to mention the large warming fire pits and heaters during the winter. Be sure to get there early as there is almost always a long waiting list for a table. Also be sure to grab an award winning margarita at the window bar near the hostess stand, and do not hesitate to upgrade to ""Top shelf"" status because it is only a dollar more. The atmosphere eats the waiting time as you drink your ""Top Shelf"" Margaritas with your company. Upon seating, you will soon find a server at your table offering appetizers and taking a drink order. Soon, your chips and salsa will arrive fresh and hot. There are multiple salsas made in house so do not hesitate to ask the server about additional selections. Soon you will be ordering your fresh and traditional mexican meal. Feel free to try the ""Um poquito de Todo"" for a selection of favorites from the house. Also excellent is the enchilada assortment with which comes rice and beans. more

Great ambiance and great food 11/14/2006

I absolutely loved this restaurant! My boyfriend and I had been wanting to try it so we finally went the last time I went to SA to visit him. At first it looked really crowded and we couldn't find parking so we drove by, but we decided to go back and wait. We were so happy we did that because it was such a great meal. The wait really was not that long and the setting was really nice; you felt like you were not in the city at all. Plus you can have margaritas while you wait! The margaritas were really fantastic. I ordered the taco norteno plate and my boyfriend ordered a plate that came with a taco, quesadilla, fajitas and I don't know what else. All the food was really great. I can't wait to go back on my next trip! Pros: margaritas, food, ambiance more

Excellent Margarittas!! 6/30/2006

My husband and I went there while on vacation and we had just a WONDERFUL time! The waiters were great...the food was great...the drinks were great!! I recommend this place to anyone who wants a relaxed and delightful dining experience! more

Forget La Fogata 5/23/2006

As advertised - the Margarita's were not bad - service and food quality were sub-standard. Cons: Service, Food Quality more
