miss the old location 9/24/2005

I was excited at first that this restaurant had expanded and became more conveniently located. However, this was short lived. Our party of six went on a thursday night. Sadly, there was only one other party in the place and yet we we were seated next to the bathrooms. Also, we had the slowest service known to man. Our waiter seemed not to be able to handle two tables. The food is not as good as the old location and therefore the prices are outrageous! I'm sorry to write this negative review as I loved the old milwaukee avenue location. more

classy gourmet mexican regional 2/12/2005

For authentic exoctic mole in a cozy ambiance with surprising detail, in a neighborhood setting, let your palate delite at this neighborhood jewel-one of the few gourmet Latin restaurants in the Logan Square neighborhood. The storefront setting leaves one pleasantly surprised upon entering this quaint restaurant. Pros: unique food, beautiful cozy settin, authentic Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

The Best Authentic Yet! 2/13/2003

If I were a restaurant, I'd want these people to cook under my roof. It takes me back to when I was little, I'll never forget the aroma of fresh tortillas and carne asada. The mole is outstanding and the salsa out of this world! The atmosphere is exactly were you want to be. Pros: Excellent Food, Fine wine, Excellent service Cons: N/A, N/A, N/A more

No way... 11/21/2002

I totally disagree, this resturant is a rip off. The service is slow beyond belief, and the food was terrible. My fiance and I went on a Friday night and we did get in without a reservation, which was nice. However, our entrees were both overcooked, and we ordered the sea bass seviche, which tasted way too fishy. The atmosphere was nice, but way too noisy. All this we could take in stride, until we got the bill...almost $150 for the two of us! Absolutely ridiculous for the slow service and poor quality food. The wine and the decor were the only things that were good. I won't be back again. Pros: on the fly seating, decor, wine Cons: poor quality food, slow service, over-priced more

AWESOME!!! 10/24/2002

I was so impressed with this Mexican Restaurant. The dishes were extremely authentic. There are may be other Mexican restaurants in Chicago that are good but this one is the best so far. I am Mexican so I am not easly impressed with Mexican restaurants. I loved it so much. Since it was so authentic I even took my parents. It is very hard to find a Mexican restaurant that actually impresses my parents but this one did. Cheers to the chef!! more

The artwork alone would make you want to come back for more. As you walk in off the street you don't expect much but then...WOW the back of the restaurant it's beutiful. The food is outstanding and the service is right on. more

More than anyone should expect 7/17/2002

The atmosphere, the friendly service, the novelty of some of the food, the best mole in the world, and tequilas to die for make this place great to eat at with a name it will take weeks of practice to remember!! Pros: quality food, great tequila list, easy parking more

Fabulous Mexican cuisine 5/27/2002

This is a wonderful restaurant for sampling the cuisine of Mexico. The moles that change daily are superb--silky, savory sweet sauces are lovely and highly recommended. The staff is very friendly and service is generally prompt. Customers range from casually dressed families to spiffy theatergoers and the atmosphere is lively and colorful. One downside: It can be fairly expensive. Pros: Excellent food Cons: Somewhat expensive more

Editorial

  • The Scene
The dining room resembles a recently converted fast-food joint with a tiled cashier counter and bright blue table linens. The adjoining bar is available for parties, but the noise cascades into the dining area, creating a less-than-intimate dining experience.

    The Food
The menu offers a range of simple and satisfactory dishes, but few stand out as notable. The fried calamari is on the rubbery side and the "spicy" marinara has very little zing. A portobello mushroom and grilled-eggplant appetizer is light on the mushroom and heavy on the somewhat tough eggplant slices; but complementary red tomato vinaigrette adds depth of flavor. Overcooked penne pasta is bathed in a thin, but flavorful, white wine sauce. Pizzas are good bets with chewy, bubbly crusts and tasty toppings like sweet caramelized red onions, cremini mushrooms, bacon and roasted red pepper. Traditional toppings--pepperoni, ham, sausage--are also available for mixing and matching.
