Having been a "Poubelle -ee" for 34+ years, it is difficult to find fault. We have found the owners and employees to be consistently friendly and out-going, despite an earlier re...

We now live in Franklin Village. We walk the dogs by La Poubelle daily, and tried it on a late night when we first moved to the neighborhood. That night the service was courteous...

Mediocre Lunch 7/23/2005

The service was indifferent and careless. The food was really, really average. It has a pleasant decor, and fronts a busy, interesting sidewalk for outdoor service. But the overall 9.3 rating is mystifying. Go for the ambience but not the food. more

La Horrendous 6/27/2005

I made a reservation for our party of six a week in advance, when we arrived they did not have it on the books. They seated us but didn't bring menus until we asked for them, we had to hunt someone down to have our drink order taken, it took 30 minutes for our appetizers to arrive and no one had any silverware when they did arrive. The service was sooo slow and the food wasn't that great and they added not the usual 18% for large parties but 20%. I called the manager and the owner to complain and no one ever returned my call. We WILL NEVER DINE HERE AGAIN. Cons: Terrible Service, Rude Staff, A whole in the wall more

SUPERB!!! 11/14/2004

I just had my birthday party at La Poubelle. It was the first time I had ever gone, and we had the best time!!!! The ambiance was fantastic, the food was great (the duck was fabulous) and the staff was very entertaining. This place is not stuffy or corporate. It has its own unique personality - very european bistro with a twist. I also found out that the same family has owned the place for 34 years! Pretty great fact- I would highly suggest reservations. Pros: ambiance, food, inexpensive more

Monday Nights!!! 11/2/2004

I love this restaurant! My favorite dishes are the seafood crepe and the chicken curry crepe. We love comming on Monday nights for the half price wine bottles - this is a great deal!!! Also try the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream - its the best!!! Pros: value, food, atmosphere more

Sooo Great!! 10/31/2004

Had the best steak au poivre this side of the Atlantic! Try the Parisian Prostitute or the Metro Sexual martini - this place is fun and the food is just great! The owner Jacqueline and her daughter are wonderful hosts! Pros: food, ambiance, value more

Superb!!!! 7/6/2004

We just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary with the very wonderful staff at La Poubelle-we had our first date their many years ago. What a fabulous place, the food, the atmosphere and Jacqueline the most wonderful owner. We still live in the neighborhood and thank goodness that La Poubelle is still a place we call home. Pros: Food & Ambiance, Value, The Owners & Staff more

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!! 11/29/2003

This is a FANTASTIC restaurant with great food and a very knowledgeable & helpful waitstaff. They also have a really good small wine list. We have never had anything but great evenings at La Poub's whether we've had date night or been with big parties. This is a small neighborhood restaurant that caters to our neighborhood and we all thank our lucky stars for this wonderful slice of heaven in Hollywood. Pros: FOOD, AMBIANCE. SERVICE Cons: NOTHING more

Great neighborhood place to eat & drink 11/25/2002

This place is great. The owner Jackie is always around talking with her customers and the waitstaff are very friendly. (If you're lucky, she'll even treat you to a sampling of something she's cooking/baking.) Its a great neighborhood place where they all get to know you by your name. Its a great place to enjoy the nightlife on a weekend night. But I do prefer to come here on a slower Sunday night and unwind with a few cocktails. The bartender is always playing a great mix of eclectic music. And you can't beat the ambience! Pros: great ambience, great staff, neighborhood joint Cons: small more

  • In Short
Serious diners arrive early, before young, carefully disheveled Hollywood crowds clog the center aisle and vintage Michael Jackson hits the turntables. Loosely translated, La Poubelle means "trash bin," referring to the broad menu. Bistro dishes like pommes frites mingle with chicken marsala, shrimp scampi and farfalle. Escargot swims in garlic and butter, and salad chevre is a house favorite: baby greens topped with slices of Granny Smith apples, walnuts, vinaigrette and goat cheese.
