Mi Ranchito: excelent food, excelent service 3/26/2009

I had the chance to visit La fiesta before and it used to be a dark place with non great food. It seems that the new owners remodeled the place: it has a nice floor and big t.v screens. Not to mention that the food was fabulous and the service was great. Good luck to Mi Ranchito! more

New Mexican in Pittsburgh 2/26/2009

Mi Ranchito, an authentic Mexican restaurant has recently replaced the former La Fiesta. Although the same type of food, Mi Ranchito offers a renovated establishment complete with new delicious entrees, friendly service and live music monthly, yet remains in the same convenient location for you, your family, and all of your friends. The menu is very affordable and your taste buds will not disagree. Some bonus features include, but are not limited to, rear parking, free WI-FI, BYOB without a corking fee, and of course, all the chips and homemade salsa you can eat. If you are looking for a festive and appetizing experience, look no further than this quaint find located in the heart of South Oakland. Pros: ambience, BYOB, Music Cons: Can't stop eating chips more

LaFiesta is gone, replaced by lousy food 2/15/2009

My all time favorite restaurant is gone. It has been about 6 months since my last visit and when we drove down Atwood we saw a new sign on the building. We went in thinking it was just a name change. It was not. Everything was awful, cold food, watery salsa, very disappointing. Does anyone know where the LaFiestas chef has gone? more

Best Mexican in Pittsburgh! Love HALF PRICE 11/15/2008

I have lived in Pittsburgh all my life. I have eaten out at pretty much almost everywhere in the pittsburgh area. I lived in oakland and greenfield for about 3 years and was addicted to La Fiesta! I love everything about their food! It is the best AUTHENTIC mexican in pittsburgh that you can find.! I always get chicken enchiladas with a beef and cheese quesadilla. They have orginal entree dishes and also have about 15 or so combination dinners ( i always do the combination dinners) I have also had their lunch buffet and it is usually pretty decent. It has everything from the menu on it but sometimes they skimp when refilling it. All you gotta do is say something to the waiter and he will get it filled though. I want to begin by saying that anyone who says they have recieved poor service at this restaurant has OBVIOUSLY never worked a job like this in their life! I have been to La Fiesta at least 40 times. (I averaged twice a week for the 3 years that i lived in the close vicinity.) Every single time I go there, it is one guy (who i am pretty sure is the owner) and he is ALWAYS our waiter! always... He is usually the only waiter in the entire restuarant with the exception of a woman who tends to work weekend nights or busier evenings during their half price( 11pm-1am). He works extremely hard and it is very obvious that he is running around like crazy waiting on anywhere from 2 to upwards of 10-12 tables at a time alone. He is very nice and it is clear to see he works very hard. I have never gotten a bad meal there! Go to la fiesta if you are even slightly considering it, you will love it! just take into consideration when you go there that a very hardworking family is making authentic mexican and even if it takes a few extra minutes than ordinary to get your chips or water, it is well worth the wait because it is a great meal. Dont rush yourself! take your time and enjoy your dinner out! dont be so prude about waiting a few extra lousy minutes for a good meal! Pros: excellent chicken enchiladas, half price 11pm-2am, buffet 11am- 2pmweekdays Cons: sometimes skimpy on refilling buffet, but just ask for more! more

Overpriced, awful service 10/3/2008

We were excited at getting authentic mexican food in Pittsburgh. We're NC, and it was a staple in our eating-out diet. La Fiesta is overpriced, it is twice the price of comparable restaurants and is really expensive when you compare it to the other, better quality restaurants in Pittsburgh. The service was slow, it took ten minutes for the server to come to our table, despite there being only one other table that hadn't settled up. The chips and salsa were awful, bland. I think the salsa was jarred. The sauces on my chimichanga seemed to have been kept at room temperature and we definitively not from hot. The server was rude, and the owner's children were running around the place, screaming and jumping on booths. Save your money, it might not be 'authentic' but go to Veracruz on Forbes or even Taco Bell for your Mexican food needs. Pros: it is technically 'authentic' Cons: no bar, bad service, crummy ambience more

Best Mexican food in Pittsburgh 5/10/2008

I am a Pittsburgh transplant, from Texas, and I must admit I have eaten plenty of Mexican food, and consider myself an expert..... This restaurant is rated in the highest position in my books, the food is excellent, the service is great, parking available in the rear, and always a warm friendly atmosphere. I can not complain about anything. I love the enchiladas, salsa and the cheese sauce!!!!!!!! I will return many times to this restaurant!!!!!!! If you like Mexican food, this is the best place to go!!!!!! Pros: Food and service Cons: no bar more

Food Screw Up! 5/5/2008

I understand it was Cinco de Mayo, but after ordering we waiting over an hour for the food for two people! I ordered two side order soft tacos no onions..... after an hour they came, both with onions! Not wanting to wait another hour for two tacos I could get at Taco Bell in less than a minute, I finally got an employees attention after 15 minutes, told them they were wrong... however they said there was nothing they could do and made me pay $8 anyhow eventhough I never touched either of them and didn't even unwrap the second after I saw the first was made wrong!!!!!! And my boyfriend got the taco salad only for it to have about a spoonfull of meat in it... it was nothing but beans he paid for! And they bring chips and salsa to your table when you sit down, and then make you pay for it!! I will NEVER go back again!!! And tell everyone else not to go! more

Love La Fiesta 5/4/2008

The owner of La Fiesta is super nice and friendly. I've never had anything that wasn't good! The salsa is soooo good. Pros: Great food, Parking in the back more

One of my favorites 7/4/2006

This place is one of my family's favorites. The food is always fantastic with nice size portions. The wait staff is always friendly. The home made salsa is so good that we always buy a quart to take home with us. If you are into truly authentic Mexican food this is the place for you, no franchised, mass produced food. As far as no bar, the place is BYOB so that helps save a lot of money over buying expensive drinks elswhere. We always go late afternoon and it's slow and very peaceful at that time. Pros: Excellent food. Cons: Tough parking at times. more

the best mexican food in town 8/5/2005

dined there last night after being told about it by our neighbors son who is a student and upitt. the most authentic mexican food i have had in pittsburgh. the owner is the waiter and the chef as well. very courteous, took time to explain the dishes suggested a shrimp dish (can't remember the name, it came in a spicy red pepper sauce) and chicken fajitas. loved both. the mexican soft drinks were interesting. wish they served liquor to go with the excellent food. Pros: authentic mexican foo, parking Cons: no bar more

Mexico is in Oakland 3/25/2003

I live next door to La' Fiesta and I've eaten there more times than I can count. The half-off menu after 10PM is one of the best food deals I've ever seen! If you go, get the number 13! It's amazing. The service is always friendly and the music is always Mexican. It's BYOB so you can bring in some Corona and enjoy a fine Mexican meal in South Oakland. Pros: AMAZING FOOD, Half off special Cons: NONE! more

la fantastica! 12/30/2002

I have been to this restaurant many, many times, and each time is a treat! The owners are friendly and curteous. The food is delicious and consistent. You receive humongous platters of food at unbelievably low prices. They even have 1/2 price dinners late in the evening...talk about a great midnight snack! It is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. more

The Best. Period. 11/22/2002

La Fiesta is the best mexican restaurant in Pittsburgh. The food is good and you get a decent amount of it. Ignore the other reviewer who complained about the service and that he/she had to pay for more chips and salsa. I have always gotten enough chips and salsa to satisfy me before my meal, so asking for more was never a problem. La Fiesta is great and I highly recommend eating there one evening. Remember, the food is half price after 10pm which is an amazing deal for how good it is. They even have their own parking lot which, for Oakland, is a big plus. Pros: Good Food, Nice ambience, Good service Cons: Pricey before 10pm more

Nothing to write home about 6/14/2002

Pros: Had parking available in back, which in Oakland is a rare thing. Also, the sizzling fajitas live up to their name! Cons: A really poor waitress who didn't want to bother with us. The tamale had next to no meat in it. They charge for extra chips and drink refills as well. The burrito and enchilada were decent. Pros: parking, sizzling fajitas Cons: poor waitress, tamale, extra charges more

  • The Scene
Unassuming and exceptional, this Mexican restaurant has two dining rooms that hold 18 tables, with Mexican hats, pinatas and streamers as decorations. Spanish MTV is shown on the TV with speakers throughout the dining area.

    The Food
The chef is from Central Mexico, and much of his cuisine reflects his background. The tacos, enchiladas and burritos are fairly ordinary, but the specialty items, like huevos con chorizo (eggs with sausage), are quite good. Chicken with mole sauce is outstanding, though not quite spicy enough; get started with the wonderful salsa verde, a green sauce with a tomatilla base. For the adventurous, the excellent chicken in green salsa stands out, with its complex taste of chiles, tomatillas and cilantro. The fact that La Fiesta is inexpensive doesn't hurt either.
