I was so pleased to hear that La Caille had gone a new direction. Away from the old tired food and service. I had to try it out. My wife and I had the best meal that we have ha...

Worst

We were celebrating my daughters 16th birthday, and LaCaille is one of her favorite restaurants. Since it is quite expensive, we don't go often. But turning 16 is a big deal, and ...

LIKE A BAD JOKE 7/21/2005

Worst dining experience of my life! Our 10th anniversay was spent in a crammed corner next to 20 loud drunks. We were seated and immediately forgotten. It took 3 1/2 hours from start to finish, waiting endlessly for waitress, water or food. Heres a novel idea. How about a soft buttered french roll in a french restaurant instead of a saltine with an italian name? The macadamia nut mahi mahi came at the 3 hour mark. Tasted like it was baked low for 6 hours. DRY! Canned Lobster bisque anyone? Each dish was worse than the last . We had to yell to converse over the noise. Wrote management, never got a response. Living in L.A., we are spoiled, but whodda thunk our local taquerias could be better than this joke. I want my 125 bucks and 3 1/2 hours of my life back. The rest of Utah was great! Pros: Beautiful setting Cons: Bad Food, Horrible Service, Way Overpriced more

Spare yourself the aggrivation 5/21/2005

I agree with other reviewers---simply stunning physical plant. But the food, while passable, is outrageously over-priced. But what really makes this a joint to avoid is the SERVICE, rather, lack thereof. Saucy maids in bustiers do not make great and prefessional servers. Neither do ski bums with rolled-up chinos to mimic knee breeches. Ugh. All would be forgiven if they knew what brands of liquor they stocked, knew to serve champagne very cold, and not room temp---the list of gaffes is endless and has spoiled every dining experience I've had here. Drive out, by all means, see the grounds, then turn around and go someplace where they value your patronage and you'll get a good meal! Pros: stunning grounds, gorgeous decor, beautiful flowers Cons: Lousy service, clueless waitstaff, brain-dead servers more

Don't waste your money 3/10/2005

Looks good, the atmosphere is nice, very nice even but the food is WAY over priced. I would recommend Tuscany over La Caille any day. As a local, I will tell you that most people around these parts would agree with me and this restuarant should NOT be on the Top 10 Things to do in Salt Lake before you die. Pros: scenery Cons: service, food, value more

Mediocre 7/6/2004

I have no problem spending quite a bit of money for a fabulous meal. La Caille is not up to par for their prices. The food is mediocre. The ambience is beautiful, but the food is so boring and average. I would never spend the money to dine at La Caille. I would rather go to Log Haven. Take my advice and opt for a restaurant whose food lives up to the prices. more

Top 5 Nationwide 6/14/2004

Having Spent many years of my life in NYC, NJ, San Francisco and Napa Valley. This place is up there with the best I have ever been to. This is the only place in Utah, that I have found worthy of dinning at. The Food is extraordinary, the staff is great. La Caille is the epitimy of elegance and excellence. Pros: Food, Service, Decor more

Not worth it! 5/23/2004

The view is spectacular, but not worth the price. I have never had a meal at La Caille worth raving about. The last time we went, I had an order of salmon that cost well over $40, not including dessert ($7) or appetizer ($15 and up). If you go, order an appetizer or dessert to enjoy the scenery- don't murder your checking account. Pros: view more

La Caille 7/6/2003

I would have to say La Caille is the nicest restaurant I have ever been too. But also the most expensive. Hands down the ""most"" beautiful restaurant you are likely to ever go to. But if you are around during the Winter, and are looking for a good Chirstmas meal. Go to La Caille, you see the most exceptional set up of Chirstmas lights you are once again, likely to ever see. I just can't explain the some odd hundred feet of driveway you drive up, with Christmas lights guiding you the entire way. An exceptional site for the young and old. I recommend stopping by even to drive though if you are able, and if you do decide to eat, make sure to bring a few hundred ($80 per person estimate, obviously varying on the choice of meal) because it gets a lil' costy. Pros: Seclusion, View, Environment Cons: Price more

Worth the journey 7/4/2003

Looking for a dining experience when visiting Salt Lake City? Or want a place for a very special occasion? Leave the city streets, approach La Caille through its ornate gates, drive the tree-lined brick driveway and surrender yourself to the French country ambiance and enjoy. Very good though expensive food served with competence and friendly style. Broad & deep wine list reasonably priced for this level restaurant. Pros: ambiance, easy parking, very good food Cons: expensive more

World Class 5/8/2003

No better French restaurant in the Western U.S. Atmosphere is number one, and is the reason for the high prices. Ambience can't be beaten. Period. They spared no expense in replicating a typical French Chateau. Grounds are secluded and beautiful. Seating is open, at individual tables. There are at least 5 dining rooms inside and several dining areas outisde for those warm summer evenings. Food is highest quality, expensive, and moderate portions. The lowest cost item is the Chicken, at $38. Lobster is market priced at around $100 but included 3 large lobster tails. Beef is well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Apetizers are good but expensive. Dinner for 2 is about $200. More with drinks. $120 if you skimp. Brunch for 4 was $240. This is the place to go for a bit of High Class France, here in Utah. You will pay the price, but it's worth it. Pros: Gorgeous, MOST Romantic, Class! Class! Cons: Very expensive, (but it shows)., Portions are average more

Buyer beware! 4/20/2003

A total ripoff! Food is only above average. Service among the worst ever experienced, minus more points considering how much the place costs. Only the grounds and ambience are superior, but memories of those will pale whenver you think of the coin you dropped for mediocre cooking and unprofessional service. The waitresses in their bustiers can be enticing, but I'd rather go to a strip bar and have a killer time while spending half as much. Pros: Gorgeous grounds, Lovely building Cons: Wretched service, Average food, Way too expensive more

Mrs 3/4/2003

My husband and I went there for our 40th wedding anniversary and stayed at the Cottage on the grounds. It was the most wonderful, magical 2 days we have ever spent. We were treated like royalty. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was wonderful. Pros: Valet parking, Great Food, Great atmosphere Cons: Expensive, for spec.occass.only more

Delightful! 2/3/2003

As always, dinner last night, at La Caille, was nothing less than perfect! From the valet opening the door to the presentation of the bill with chocolate dipped cherries, this restaurant has always been a fav for me! Keep up the good work! more

SPECTACULAR!!!! 2/2/2003

My wife and I dined there last night. As always it was perfect. My wife wasn't that hungry and said she might just order a salad. What a delightful surprise to find they now have a lighter fare menu! She loved her swordfish picatta and wants to go back next weekend to try the wild mushroom ravioli! To all gentleman out there, ladies love La Caille and the lighter fare menu isn't as pricey as the signature dishes (which they still have), and you can't go wrong with the dessert your wife will give you after you take her there! Pros: New menu, Dessert from wife more

Still going strong 1/15/2003

I've travelled the world, and yet I always end up back at La Caille. It's a magical place that continues to give to me and my family. The food is always satisfying. The ambience unmatched...I defy you to find a more charming, romantic niche. When I walk through the doors I feel as if I've been transported to another time and place. After thirty years, what other restaurant can you visit and still see familiar servers and hostesses?? Such employee devotion is a testament in itself. La Caille is perfect for romantic, intimate dinners. Large, special occaisons (wouldn't get married anywhere else). And a sure fire bet to mark any special moment in one's life. I highly recommend La Caille. Pros: service, atmosphere, surprises more

LOVELY SETTING, MEDIOCRE FOOD & SERVICE 1/12/2003

Slow service, staff friendly but unprofessional demeanor. Reservations desk harried. Staff needs more training. Duck superb, scallops boring, steak not warm. Overpriced. Pros: setting Cons: pricing, service more

Of course it made the list. 12/11/2002

La Caille is very good, but with those prices, it should be good. Pros: Location, Ambiance, Service Cons: Price / Value for $, A little stuffy more

La Caille 11/20/2002

Exquisite and very romantic. Exactly what you want when searching for the very best. Pros: Elegant, Romantic Cons: Expensive more

mmmm 10/10/2002

La Caille was truly wonderful--the food was marvellous, the ambience among the very most romantic and lovely. I highly recommend it for an indulgent and romantic evening. more

My Two Cents 10/7/2002

I was amazed at how secluded and beautiful this place was, stroll during day and night two different places. My friend and I arent rich or dont look it but we decided to eat there because it looked so peaceful and we saw they're food trophies, seated nicely and promptly but from there the service was anything but quick, i would understand if the place was packed but there was maybe 5 groups of poeple the main waitress talked to us which such, idon't know but it was bad, the drinks girl is the only reason i give a 2 service. The music and look of building a definitive plus, food was best ive had. Pros: Great Food, Cozy, Romantic Cons: Service, Service, Service more

Liked lots 8/13/2002

I love this resturant. very good authentic french food (the escargo was the best I ever had) very romantic atmospher with the landscape and the building itself Cons: very expensive more
