Mediocre pseudo-French fare for those on a high sodium diet. 7/10/2007

The first two reviews must have been written by friendsor close relatives of this fake French joint. The truite meuniere my friend had was so salty, it was almost inedible. My "crab crepe Biarritz" at $9 for the appetizer portion was $20 for entree size, the exact double of the former, was drowned in a pool of flavorless and gooey bechamel sauce. The crab filling was also without flavor and was skimpy to boot. The maitress d' (or owner?) spoke very poor English and equally disastrous French, claimed to be from the "pyrenees" but was unfamiliar with the word BASQUE. So much for authenticity of this establishment whose quaint decor speaks of better days under a possibly different owner and management. Pros: Quaint decor, ample space between tables. Cons: Overpriced, bad food. more

This place is fantastic- they have a great prix-fix menu good all night and a wonderful wine list. Prices are reasonale and the onion soup is delicious. Service is a little off- don't go if you are in a rush- they bring you the wine and forget about you for a while. I am not sure if it is family run but the older woman is so authentic and pleasant you feel like you are in a little bistro along the Seine. Pros: authenticity, atmosphere, prix-fix menu Cons: spotty service more

Old time NY French 5/8/2005

Went before a concert at Carnegie Hall. The place has been around for decades, (looks it), and serves typical classic French fare (Beef Bourguignon, etc) but they do it well, and its reasonably priced. If you want Balthazars, this isnt the place for you, but if you want a nice meal in a relaxed atmosphere in midtown, check it out. more
