I do most of my own repair work but some times I don't have the time or required special tools. In these cases I take my vehicle to this Kwik Kar. They have always done great work at a reasonable cost.
I used to own my own repair shop and I am amazed at the ignorance of some people. So how much should they charge you to use a machine costing tens of thousands of dollars to diagnose a problem? And you really believe that a brake flush on a POS truck with “a quarter of a million miles on it” is unnecessary? I’ll be sure my kid’s never ride in a vehicle of yours! (flushing brake fluid is a time consuming process, takes two people and is easily worth the $99). And no, a small shop can not compete with big chains like AutoZone on parts prices simply due to the volume discounts the big stores get. Finally, labor charges come from a book. If the book says it takes 5 1/2 hours then that is what is charged. If the mechanic paid for expensive special tools that allow him to do the job faster, then he should still get paid for the time allotted for the job. I have had vehicles that I paid a shop to change the spark plugs for that very reason. It would take me the full 5 1/2 hours along with the aggravation yet they could use the special tools to complete the job in half the time. It simply is not worth it for me to spend hundreds of dollars on tools I will use once.
I closed my shop because I got tired of dealing people that thought they knew more than me and wanted me to give away my time and work. And they almost always owned vehicles with so many miles and lack of maintenance that they needed to be taken off the road.
