In for oil change, now transmission problems. 8/5/2013

I took my car in for an oil change; they brought the car out, which would not move from neutral to drive. The employee, after telling me about all of his "certifications", spent time grinding the gears trying to "repair" the car. more

Wouldn't take my vehicles anywhere else! 8/23/2010

I do most of my own repair work but some times I don't have the time or required special tools. In these cases I take my vehicle to this Kwik Kar. They have always done great work at a reasonable cost. I used to own my own repair shop and I am amazed at the ignorance of some people. So how much should they charge you to use a machine costing tens of thousands of dollars to diagnose a problem? And you really believe that a brake flush on a POS truck with “a quarter of a million miles on it” is unnecessary? I’ll be sure my kid’s never ride in a vehicle of yours! (flushing brake fluid is a time consuming process, takes two people and is easily worth the $99). And no, a small shop can not compete with big chains like AutoZone on parts prices simply due to the volume discounts the big stores get. Finally, labor charges come from a book. If the book says it takes 5 1/2 hours then that is what is charged. If the mechanic paid for expensive special tools that allow him to do the job faster, then he should still get paid for the time allotted for the job. I have had vehicles that I paid a shop to change the spark plugs for that very reason. It would take me the full 5 1/2 hours along with the aggravation yet they could use the special tools to complete the job in half the time. It simply is not worth it for me to spend hundreds of dollars on tools I will use once. I closed my shop because I got tired of dealing people that thought they knew more than me and wanted me to give away my time and work. And they almost always owned vehicles with so many miles and lack of maintenance that they needed to be taken off the road. more

Unethical and Deceptive.. 6/10/2008

My wife took our daughter's old truck there to have a oil change and an inspection sticker. They talked her into a lot of high priced unnecessary things. They charged $89 for a 10 minute check on their machine. They found a bad O2 sensor. They had her do an unnecessary brake power flush by scaring her about our daughter's safety. $99. Charged her about $385 to change the spark plugs and ignition wires, Of course all the parts were marked up about twice what I could buy them across the street at Auto Zone. All said and done she paid $760 and still couldn't get the car inspected.... When I asked them to explain the charges all they said is she approved them. I guess it's ok to take advantage of someone if they approve it. Of course they couldn't produce a signed estimate. The unsigned one was for $520. The final bill was 50% higher! They showed 5 1/5 hours of labor but they hadn't started on the car by 1pm and she picked it up at 5pm. They said bring the car back in and they'd fix it but couldn't tell me how much it'd cost. What kind of an idiot would bring it back to someone who grossly overcharged you in the first place? I've disputed the charges, filing a complaint with the BBB, telling everyone I can to stay away and am thinking of picketing them... All over a truck that has a quarter million miles on it. Kwik Kar locations and the parent company has lots of ethical problems. Just do a web search. more

Rude People 11/24/2007

I usually take the cars for oil changes and inspection here. My wife took the car this time and and was told "we put the sticker in the trunk for the cops to find later." The manager was unapolegitic. They are usually OK for oil change and inspection, but their service work was overpriced - I should have had the work estimated elsewhere before having them do the work. Moral - don't send your wife, they think it is funny to take advantage of women. Don't get big-ticket work done there. more

Questionable ethics 8/10/2005

I took my car to this Kwik Kar location to diagnose a Check Engine light and ended up investing about $700 without ever having the problem solved. I was desparate to get the problem solved because I needed my vehicle inspection renewed. They would do a little work and recommend that I drive it and see if the light came back on -- which it always did. They claimed to have fixed the problem and gave me my inspection sticker, but 2 days later that light was back on, so I'm not sure they ever did anything to help the situation. They did give me that sticker which allowed me to drive the car for another year, but I question whether or not they should have even done that (though I'm glad they did). Seems to me they just did what they could to get as much money out of me as possible. Perhaps they were honestly stumped by the problem, but I'm not going back if I can help it. more
