Best

The Kung Pao Three Musketeers (I think it's tastier with brown rice) has long been one of my favorite meals in Los Angeles. Their Kung Pao sauce really is amazing...so tasty!

Worst

The food is always great here, but they totally jammed me on my GrubHub order. I got there 25 minutes after placing my order, and 5 minutes before they told me it would be ready. ...

The quality of the chicken was very good, but the food was literally swimming in grease. Not my cup of tea. more

Excellent crab and cream cheese wontons, and the spicy Thai basil flat noodle is excellent. Delivery is usually prompt as well. more

I order from here a lot because the food is usually good. This particular order took over 60 minutes. I was almost an hour and half to get. When I spoke to the restaurant I asked them not to charge me for the tip I originally put on there and they did anyway. I know they did not have this order in time because they called me back after I complained and ask what kind of sauce I wanted on the chicken wings because they ran out of the one we ordered originally. I really like this place, but that was such bad customer service. more

KP has some of the best faux meats ever. The kung poa fake beef is my favorite. Also their mein is awesome. I've always had great delivery time from them. more

best Chinese in the neighborhood 11/11/2010

Always enjoy going there whether to take out, or to sit down. Primarily I go there to take out, but have enjoyed many a lunch or dinner there. Very laid back atmosphere. Staff are always friendly and ask how I'm doing, etc. The food is great and they have indicators on the menu for health conscious eaters and spicy foods. The West Hollywood Wonton soup is a favorite of mine as are the Black Pepper chicken, and the BBQ pork Lo Mein. more

BAD SERVICE= AVOID UNLESS NO OTHER OPTIONS 3/21/2010

It pisses me off to have to write this because frankly, this place makes good food and usually has good service. I bring about 20-30 people with me to eat there on Sunday nights at 9pm and we all are courteous and tip well. Tonight, the waitresses accidentally threw away at least a meal that was left from my dining... and I wanted to take it home. I understand... this happens. So I asked the manager guy if I could get a comp for a future meal since my meal was thrown away. Rather than saying ""sorry for the inconvenience"", he made a fuss. It amazes me that this guy hasn't learned to count his blessings in this economy. Next week, I hope he thinks about how a $10 comp would have saved him from the $275 loss.? Pros: adeqhaute food Cons: Manager is a jerk more

Stay away at all costs. Plenty of other choices nearby! 1/7/2009

Wow. Unreal. Got take out tonight. Usually order from another place in the hood but thought i would give Kung Pao a try. it was the worst chinese food i have eaten in my life. As a cook myself i recognize old food when v see it and man, i'm telling you, i've seen fresher looking food under heat lamps on a chinese lunch buffet at 3pm. Rice had to be day old. i could tell it was fluffed up with water and tasted very stale. Beef was old too. Even the sauce covering couldn't mask the awful texture and taste. Stay away at all costs. Cons: bad food more

Came really fast. Food is all right. The basic chinese entrees are better than the noodle dishes. Do order from the Chef Recommendations. Big portions- each dish can feed 2. more

Consistently HORRIBLE FOOD 3/20/2008

I live around the corner from Kung Pao, and it's usually doing pretty good business, so after swearing never to order food from there again after the last few times, I caved-in and ordered Combo Fried Rice as well as Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. GROSS! I got home and opened the Shrimp with NOT Lobster Sauce At All. Usually, lobster sauce is a sort of white and eggy sauce, but this was a brown meat broth, lacking any flavor other than salt and soy with water. It was filled with peas that were RAW, and like marbles. The combo rice was also filled with peas that were raw and the whole thing was just gross and without flavor. There are so many Chinese, Thai, and Japanese restaurants in Los Angeles that there is NO WAY I'd ever order from this place again. They're very nice, but nice doesn't fill my belly-- unless I'm hungry for salty marbles, in which case, Yum! Pros: Simply awful food Cons: They're friendly enough while serving awful food more

Aviod! Aviod! Avoid! For the love of god, avoid!! 1/7/2008

My first and only experience with this place -- When our food arrived, we realized that instead of the chicken dumplings we ordered, the restaurant had given us crab rangoon. No biggie, right? Wrong! We called the restaurant and after much discussion (and headache), they agreed to send us the chicken dumpling they had forgotten. Whatever, everyone makes mistakes. While waiting for the dumplings to arrive, we figured we would eat the corn soup. Unfortunately, when we opened the soup, we realized it was the wrong soup. Again, we called the restaurant. Instead of admitting their mistake, they argued with us and tried to convince us they had sent the correct soup. When the 2nd delivery man arrived with the chicken dumplings we showed him the soup and he admitted to the mistake and called the restaurant for us. I spoke with the manager and he said they would send the correct soup. I asked politely that they simply refund us because we didn't want to delay our dinner any longer and wait for a 3rd delivery guy. The manager refused. I reminded him that we just spent over $50 with them and it would not make any sense to lose a customer because they couldn't refund us for a $5 soup. He remained rude and refused to refund me. He told me to just wait and deal with it. Aside from the awful service, the food sucked. The dumplings were burnt, the sweet and sour shrimp was unedible and the beef tasted like plastic. Worst meal ever! Bad service, bad food, bad management! Pros: fast delivery Cons: nasty food and bad service more

Tasteless food that leaves you unstatisfied 12/2/2007

My roommate and I ordered delivery from Kung Pao. As food enthusiasts, we were very disappointed in the results. The food just was not good. The pan-fried chicken dumplings were so lacking in filling that they were almost flat. The vegetable moo shu was bitter and unsavoringly sweet, a gray mass studded with undercooked, shredded carrots. The rice papers that accompanied it were flavorless and dry. The chicken chow fun was a mound of overcooked, squishy noddles that were flavorless and stuck together with a sprinkling of chicken (also flavorless). The beef with broccoli did have good flavor with a nice sauce, but the broccoli was overcooked and the beef had that soft, can't-believe-this-came-from-a-cow texture. The white rice was very very dry. The best part of this experience was the staff. The woman who took my order was clear and very friendly, as was the delivery man who arrived ahead of schedule and was all smiles. I only wish their food lived up to the staff! This place is gives you a good amount of food for cheap. But for those in search of delicious, authentic chinese take-out, keep searching. more

Chinese delivery that is both tasty and healthy (yes, its possible) 10/29/2007

We moved to LA from NY, and really missed our chinese delivery... found this place on Citysearch, and took our chances - and it was the best choice! we order from there at least once a week now. This is chinese food from people who actually try to cook healthy. the classic dishes we order (chicken broccoli and steamed dumplings) taste fresh and while flavorful are not overly fried or spiced. We tried a few different classics, and they are always good. Soups also quite yummy. One time we were shopping at the whole foods on fairfax which is right next door so we went in to eat our dinner at the restaurant, and were thrilled to see the place is clean, and the staff very friendly. Always good to see that when its a place where you order deliveries. more

amazing chinese 5/1/2007

i grew up eating at chinese restaurants...and i feared moving to LA i would struggle finding a fave. My first try, I found Kung Pao Bistro. I have gone back NUMEROUS times (i think they think im crazy) and have gotten amazing service, and wonderful food. Their sizzling rice soup is the BEST i have EVER had..not to mention it has been my fave sopu when i eat @ Chinese restaurants. Their fried wontons are to DIE FOR..the cream chees w/ crab ones....their pork dishes, their beef and broccoli, their everything is amazing. Very modern, clean and appropriately priced. You can order full dishes or half dishes. HIGHLY reccomended. Pros: Parking, there's rarely a wait, quick service more

This Place Has Everything... Literally 3/2/2007

I'm one of those people who absolutely must have my favorites when I go to a Chinese place. I'll try new things, but my routine business is likely to go someplace where I know I can get my usuals, and a great egg roll. Kung Pao has both. You can get everything from the standards (in regular AND vegetarian form) to some harder to find favorites (egg foo yung, dan-dan noodleds) to restaurant specialties (like robot chicken, the nakesake of the cartoon network show). good veggies, good shrimp, good meat, and great fake meat. more
