Great Place to Learn 2/25/2014

My daughter has been "doing Kumon" for 4 years. She is studying Advanced Algebra while in 7th grade. We have seen a love of math develop over the years and she has been put into higher math and reading classes at school. It is not always easy to fit Kumon in, but it is worth it to watch her develop into a kid who loves math and reads in her free time. more

Uncaring place 2/11/2014

If I could give this 0 stars, I would. This is the 'stupidest' place ever. My parents made me come here before. Completely pointless... they made me do something I never learned and when I asked for help, they didn't explain. when I cried in frustration, they didn't care. This is such a horrible place. Instead of paying big bucks, make your own worksheets. more

Terrible education center. I would not refer anyone to this center. more

The Best 1/18/2014

The Kumon Center of Howell was the best thing to happen to me and my child. The teacher Connie Schmidt Kirman was wonderful. My child learned so much. She gained confidence in herself and started coming out of her shell in school. Her grades improved from C's to A's. Kumon is worth it. The teacher was understanding when we had to pull out because of money problems. This is the place to go. more

We wouldn't recommend Kumon to our worst enemy. 1/11/2014

My husband and I are very dissatisfied with Kumon Math and Reading in Howell New Jersey. We had been looking to find help in the Howell area for our son who had finished elementary school and was moving to middle school. After searching the internet for learning centers we decided on the Kumon Math and Reading learning center in Howell New Jersey to avoid a long commute. We met with the Kumon center owner Connie Schmidt Kirman who told us that it would help our child's grades move up and that he will have more confidence. We were told that Kumon is a method of learning that provides individualized, self-paced instruction in math and reading and that Kumon helps to develop a child’s ability to think, learn, and concentrate.  We signed up. Our experience was not anything she had promised. On the contrary it was bad. From day one our son hated the center and the owner who was also the tutor. He was just given worksheets and had no help when he needed it. His grades never went up at all. Whenever we checked with Ms. Schmidt Kirman we were told "that Kumon is a long term program." The improvement never came; our son kept getting frustrated. He even got to the point where he began to lose interest in everything at school and at home. The posters in the Kumon center make it look that children love Kumon. In our opinion Kumon math and reading is all a big illusion. We are a lower middle class family and it was really hard to pay the tuition but we made ends meet and paid the tuition for the sake of our son. After many months of continued hope that we would see him improve, we finally withdrew him from the program. If Ms. Schmidt Kirman done her job instead of just trying to fill up her seats, none of this would have happened. Kumon was the biggest most expensive mistake of our life and we would give anything to go back in time and not send our son there. We wouldn't recommend Kumon to our worst enemy. more

Avoid this Kumon learning center 12/20/2013

Not a friendly Kumon center at all. They were not just rude to my child, who is in elementary school, but actually mean to her. Unless you like the idea of having strangers being cruel to your kid to the point of crying, I'd avoid this Kumon math center. I should also mention that they had my child repeat the same math problems way more than she needed. When we quit the Kumon center, the instructor treated us badly for leaving. Should be avoided. I wasted my time and money. I could probably write a page or two of everything atrocious that went on in the Kumon center. more

Not happy but won't complain. 4/13/2013

I really don't have anything good or bad to say about this place. My niece attended here for almost a year before we pulled her. There wasn't anything that went wrong to make her mother take her out but the Owner/Teacher also just didn't impress the family with the quality of instruction. My only advice is to use your own discretion in enrolling here. See if your child fits in before committing to it. more

Kumon is a long term program designed to develop excellent math and reading students. We develop a strong foundation in the basics and strong study habits with the goal of advancing students beyond their grade level in school. It is a supplement to school. This means it enhances school and the learning that takes place there. It is a tool for families that put academic development as a top priority. It takes commitment and consistent effort from students and parents alike. For these reasons not all families easily incorporate Kumon into their life. It is not tutoring. Our goal is to develop students who do not need tutors as they are able to figure out whatever is presented to them in school. After reviewing the report cards and test results my students achieved this quarter I can tell you without hesitation it works very well. I run a sound business and work hard to bring value to my community and the families I serve.
