GREAT SALON! 3/17/2010

Joanie has been coloring my hair for over 15 years and I always get compliments on it, even by strangers! The place is friendly and laid back, no attitude. It's like going to a friends house to visit and also get your hair done! The prices are reasonable, the location is convenient and Joanie, the owner, makes everyone feel welcome. If you are looking for skillful stylists and a nice atmosphere go to Kropps and Bobbers, you won't be disappointed! Pros: Experts in hair color and cuts. more

Expert Hair Stylist 2/21/2010

I have been going to Wesley for 3 years and am always amazed by the depth of his knowledge and his skill level. Wesley is not just an artist with hair, but he understands the chemistry and the technology of the products he works with. I get the Japanese straightening twice a year and my hair looks better than it ever has! Plus he has great advice for cut, style and color! Pros: Amazing Talent, Experience and Training more

Fabulous Salon 2/14/2010

Joni gave me the best haircut I've ever had. She just knew what my hair would do and not do and what would look good with my face. Simply amazing. Olga gave me a fabulous facial and the best lip wax ever. She takes her time and does a really thorough job. My skin has never felt better. Bisa does a really great job on nails. I absolutely loved this salon!!!!!!! Pros: Greatest haircuts, facials, waxing and nails more

Excellent Overall 2/13/2010

I have been going to Kropps and Bobbers for nearly 3 years.. I actually live in Connecticut but make the drive every couple of months down to see Amelia who does my color and extensions. She works miracles with my hair transforming me from having a dark blonde chin length bob to having a full voluminous mane of a raven colored hair. The salon itself is awesome. The staff have excellent skills and truly listen to and hone in on the needs and wants of their clients. They all seem to be truly blessed with the ability to interpret their clients demands... true artists in their work. \r On a practical note the salon is located close to the FDR driveway right off Houston so it is super easy to locate. For those of us who drive, there is a convenient parking lot across the street. \r Overall the staff of Kropps and Bobbers provide excellent service and pricing I would recommend K&B for one and all. more

Best Short Haircut 11/13/2009

Best Short Haircut. Truly. I'm not a simple gal when it comes to knowing how I want my hair cut, only how I don't want it. Rachel at Kropps and Bobber seems to know, though. Hallelujah, sister. She listened to my nonsense, deciphered what I hoped to go for, and did it. Boom. ps: love the laid back salon vibe. more

Salon Supreme 11/7/2009

Have had multiple services at this salon and so far it has been amazing.!! I had the ONLY supreme deep tissue massage from Jean, that can change your outlook if not your life.. The facials are as good as the massage, I prefer Olga and Joni can color hair like no other. The manicures outlast any other I've ever had, the work is meticulous and they use amazing organic products to die for!! They are affordable, accommodating, professional, clean and I recommend them to all who ask. Pros: SUBLIME Cons: none to think of more

Love my color 7/22/2009

I went to Rachel to color my brunette hair which had become rather blah and I was finally ready to do something about it. I knew Rachel from when she was at Oscar Blandi and was confident she'd do a good job on my hair, but WOW, I am soooo impressed! I had highlights put on the top and semi-permanent to cover all that grey I'm starting to get (eek!). I'm a very au natural kind of person, so I didn't want anything that was going to make me look vampy or would be obvious, and I was really afraid of getting scary roots if I waited a little too long to get it dyed again. Rachel is a color genius because my hair looks as healthy as it did when I was in high school - it is shiny, the color is rich and the copper-ish highlights subtly catch the eye but don't look like a different color. I have only good things to say about Rachel and think that if you are looking for a highly professional hairdresser she's your go-to. Pros: professional, healthy, shiny looking hair color Cons: can't think of any more

amazing amelia :) 4/27/2009

once again, amelia has made me a new person. she just covered up my old highlights (with 3 inch roots) with a gorgeous shade of what i like to call black cherry. :) everyone loves the color, and of course the layers look great too. she never fails to impress me! \r go see her- you will feel amazing. more

KROPPS AND BOBBERS WILL CUT OFF AND COLOR YOUR WINTER BLUES! 2/11/2009

I've gotten so many compliments on the haircut I got last week from Lauren that I went back today to get the highlights she suggested. The weather has been so nice recently, I decided that I just couldn't wait to get that sun-kissed look naturally. I should tell you, that I haven't dyed my hair in years because of a few mishaps. But Lauren steered me in the right direction with my cut, so I trusted her with the color. She did an AMAZING job (again)! She added an extra glow to my hair, but not in a ""oh, you just got highlights"" sort of way. It is more of a subtle ""something's different, but I can't quite put my finger on it"" sort of way; which was EXACTLY what I wanted! Do yourself a favor: CALL KROPPS AND BOBBERS AND ASK FOR LAUREN! She'll add a little bit of sunshine to your winter! If you go before March 15th, you'll also get to see colorful Carnival photos and frames by artist, Jean Ockuly. Another client in the salon today described them best: ""They are overflowing with imagination""! more

Great Hair 3/23/2008

Amelia has been cutting and coloring my hair ever since I met her 6 years ago and I've never been disappointed. I'm the type of person who likes to drastically change my hair color often, and she's taken me from angel food to red velvet cake and back again with perfect results every time. Very impressive--red to blonde is no simple task. I also must say that every haircut she has given me has managed to still look fresh even as it grows out. Amelia is also super personable and great to hang out with, and her prices are reasonable. I can't recommend her highly enough! Pros: Amelia more

Amazing customer service and a very warm atmosphere 2/11/2008

I just had my hair cut by Amelia at Kropps & Bobbers. Not only did an adorable child and two Maltese puppies scamper about, creating a warm familial atmosphere, but Amelia's cut was wonderful: a short, pixie-punk Agyness Deyn (I admit to a girlcrush on her). I have visited salons all over the city, from Bb to Frederic Fekkai to Beehive, and if you are looking for a totally chic, hip, professional cut at a bargain price, this is it. She took the time to do a little additional cleanup in the back when I asked about it, and didn't seem impatient and pressed like other stylists when you ask for the best. The other stylist (maybe he was the owner? Not sure) was a sweetheart and we gossiped about Project Runway and denim design (don't we all love the salon for gossip and fun?) and the receptionist was nice too. I will be going back to see Amelia and the owner again soon! Best cuts for downtown girls or uptown girls seeking downtown style! Pros: superfriendly people, great bargain, excellent cuts Cons: none as far as I can see more

Founder of Amelia's Fan Club 11/1/2007

I was introduced to Amelia about 5 years ago and from the first time she did my hair, I become a life long client. I was SO happy with my haircut and highlights, that I have recommended everyone who is looking for a stylist to go to Kropps and Bobbers and have Amelia do their hair. I followed her from her previous salon to Kropps and Bobbers because I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair. The salons itself provide a warm, friendly feeling, allowing you to relax while you have whatever done to your hair. I am sure that everyone else that works there is as amazing as Amelia is, but I since I have been using her, I have never been unhappy. She will do EXACTLY what you want and is also a great person to hang out with! more

Best haircut - she knows her stuff! 10/31/2007

I learned more about my hair in an hour with Amelia than I have ever learned about it in 32 years of my life. She is great and definitely knows her stuff! I left Kropps and Bobbers feeling gorgeous and can recommend her to anyone. So go and get your next haircut with Amelia - you won't regret it. Pros: relaxing, chilled out and down to earth. Cons: nothing more

AMELIA @ Kropps & Bobbers is fantastic! 10/30/2007

AMELIA is a fantastic stylist! I have been looking for a stylist for about 5 years to replace my old stylist from a while ago. My hair has been butchered so many times, that I have resorted to letting nobody cut my hair and just trimming what I can myself (not the best idea).\r \r I was in nyc visiting and my friend recommended Amelia, and I immediately knew Amelia would do great job the moment she touched my hair. She knew exactly how to cut and handle my hair. Unfortunately I work in Denver/Boulder CO, but I am planning to get my hair cut by Amelia every time I am in nyc for visits and business. Pros: fantastic stylist more

Amelia Rocks!!!!!!!!!!! 10/25/2007

She's the only hair stylist in NYC that I've ever been happy with. She knows hair - period. She always figures out a way to give you what you want in a way that will exceed your expectations. i recomend her to everyone I know. more

Great Salon 10/21/2007

Kropps and Bobbers was recommended to me by a friend. The salon itself has a great vibe. The people are really friendly and not at all pretentious, as some Manhattan stylists can be. The set up of the place is comfy in a minimalistic, Zen, sort of way. Not a lot of flash - just great hair. Amelia listened to me and knew exactly what I wanted. She did my color and my cut. My highlights came out perfect and my cut, although a little shorter than I usally go, was a great cut indeed. Highly recommend this place. Whether you're going for fun & funky or neat and classic, or even somewhere in between, Amelia can help you out. One thing though they do not take plastic, which can they neglected to tell me when I booked my appointment. That really surprises me as cut and color, although not overpriced, is certainly easier to put on a credit card than pay for with cash. I now have to ""save"" for my next salon visit. more

Best hair 10/20/2007

I first went to Amelia after having chemically straightened ALL of my hair on a different stylist's advice. She put in a lot of time to save it. Now I am constantly getting compliments on my hair and have referred all of my co-workers to Crops and Bobbers. Amelia is a savior! Pros: Amelia more

Ask for Amelia! 9/29/2007

I moved to LA from NYC exactly 3 years ago, and I have tried desperately to find someone who is as good as Amelia to cut my hair. Three horrible haircuts and dye jobs later, I finally realized that it was never going to happen. I'm not even kidding - I fly back to LA at least twice a year for Amelia to do my hair. Well, I fly back for lots of reason, but I always make a point to see Amelia because no one has ever made my hair look as great as she does. I have curly hair, and it's not even that crazy curly but apparently no one knows how to deal with it. I think Amelia's been cutting it now for over 6 years, and I will not have anyone else touch my hair. The end. Pros: Friendly place, hip, stylish, no nonsense, great location Cons: Does not accept credit cards, but there are like 2 ATMs within a 3 second radius. more
