Avoid if you don't want a bum's rush 11/18/2011

Friday november 18, 2011. I was in a party of eight. Reservations at 6PM. Service was rushed. Food very good. Did I mention the service was rushed? At 7:15 PM the manager, ""C J"" (refused yo give his last name), asked us to leave as they had another party waiting! Wow, a bit overbooked? No offer of anything - we didn't even have time for dessert or coffee. In fact, when he told us we needed to vacate our table he didn't even offer an alternative when we told him we had not dessert or coffee. He was much more concerned about the new booking than us. If you're looking for good food and a bum's rush, try Kingfish. Make sure ""CJ"" is the manager and you won't be disappointed. He will make sure you're out the door before dessert/coffee. more

Great San Mateo institution 5/8/2009

Decent place to go once a year, but food not good enough to make me a regular. It is close to the movie theater though, so a good option for before/after the movies. Pros: good jazz; decent seafood Cons: food & price just ok more

Great drinks, not the best food. 4/16/2009

I have tried so hard to like Kingfish and after the last time I went there I don't think I'll go back to eat again. The drinks are GREAT, I have never had a bad drink from there but the food is just... ok. I have ordered a variety of things and nothing has been that great or anything I'm dying to taste again. Last time we went the fish was undercooked and they ended up not charging us for the meal which was nice but I think I'd rather go to the pizza place around the corner than Kingfish. But for drinks I would say go for it! Great location as well! Pros: Drinks, location Cons: Food more

succulent steak and lobster 9/20/2008

+ prime rib; i was starving by the time we went out for a late company lunch; i ordered a medium rare for the prime rib. for the life of me, i couldn't figure out why i wasn't scarfing this dish down. my co-worker kindly pointed out that they provided me with a well done steak. the waiter was kind enough to quickly remedy the problem and i was downing their succulent steak in no time. + lobster (uber, fantabulous!) i was nicely treated to a bit of lobster while awaiting my new and improved steak that was in the works. this was the best lobster tail i ever had. mmmm... more

WORST RESTAURANT WITH UNBELIEVABLY TERRIBLE SERVICE... LOW CLASS!!!!!! NEGATIVE 5 STARS!!!! 5/11/2008

Talk about a DISSAPOINTMENT!!!!! I recently had dinner this past weekend on Friday! The restaurant was not even busy when I was seated upstairs. I was greeted by a young short girl who happened to be my server. I never would have guessed because after the initial greeting we weren't attended for 15 minutes. The server must have passed our table over 4 - 5 times before we were able to put in our order. The table we were seated at was right next to a area where servers put in the orders on a computer. The professionalism there is below zero. My mother and I heard numerous times foul language and sexual comments many times between KIngfish staff. This made me disgusted and was actually recommended to dine here by a friend. The food quality is not generous for the price you pay and neither is it exceptional as I expected. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND NEVER EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT! POOR SERVICE AND UNPLEASENT ENVIRONMENT!! I WOULD CONSIDER THIS PLACE LOW CLASS!!!! If there were negative star ratings, this place deserves a NEGATIVE 5-star rating. Avoid at all costs!!! Pros: NO PRO'S... AVOID IF POSSIBLE Cons: SAVE YOUR MONEY THIS RESTAURANT DEFINES BAD QUALITY AND SERVICE more

NOT A PLACE FOR INFANTS/ TODDLERS 6/10/2007

Although the food was average - the customer service received from the manager/ owner was just bottom line RUDE. My family and I were dining and I wanted to change my 1.5 year old son's soiled diaper. There was not changing table available so I then spoke to the manager/ owner to see if he could accomodate us (we were in the middle of dining). He actually suggested I change my son a shelf located in the women's bathroom - ABSOLUTELY NOT - after literally arguing with him - he finally put two chairs together in a private dining room. Should you dine at this facility and should need to change your infant/ toddler - BEWARE of the challenges you may receive from the manager/ owner. Cons: No changing table / manager - owner RUDE more

Avoid if you want any kind of service. 1/21/2007

My roommate and I went this past saturday night. No tables were available, so we went up to the second floor and sat at the bar. It took about 10 minutes to even get the bartenders attention. Once our drinks were done, we were seated in the upstairs dining area, but since all we got was really slow service upstairs, we decided to find a seat at the downstairs bar. We sat there for (I kid you not) 15 minutes, and no one came over to take a drink or dinner order. The bartender did not even acknowledge us. It wasn't even that busy!!!!! We left immediately after. So could I recommend this place to you....? Yeah, if you like sitting around with no drink and no food.... Pros: Good Dirty Martini Cons: You're lucky if you can get the bartenders attention to even get one. more

Not the same as is it once was 11/5/2006

Since new owners have taken over Kingfish, it's not the same consistent, good experience it once was. They've removed/changed signature dishes that are not close to being as good as they once were--the signature cabbage salad is now boring and tasteless where it once was a taste explosions in the mouth. Our group agreed that they must have made changes to cut costs, but it's certainly not at the level it used to be.....and that's not even talking about the service. We were on a bit of a tight schedule, and while our food arrived quickly, it took 4 turns to the table to bring everyone's cocktail...and there were only 4 of us! Sadly, it is no longer one of the top destinations on the Northern Peninsula Pros: Ambience, festive atmosphere, convience to theater Cons: Food has gone downhill, service is spotty. more

Save room for dessert! 8/29/2006

Great food and great service! I recommend making reservations because this place gets pretty crowded. Great place for family dinners or a night out w/ friends. Try the Cosmo, you won't regret it, but save room for dessert. To die for! Pros: Food, Service, Parking more
