Best

I had lunch at Kingfish yesterday and it was wonderful. The bartender, Tina, was very attentive and suggested a great white wine for me to try, which I loved. She was also able to...

Worst

What a disappointment. The food tasted great but the service was poor. I could not believe it, the waiter smelled of BO and was wearing a dirty shirt, the tables did not have t...

Lousy, just plain lousy 4/22/2005

Food is heavy and greasy. Service was lame. Server couldn't answer any of our questions about the food. Way overpriced for what you get. Cool space tho. Probably fun to just go and hang at the bar. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Food, Price, Service more

User review by theduke37 2/28/2005

Unimpressive food. We had a sole special, the lobster, key lime pie and a couple of appetizers. None were particuraly impressive. I would term the cooking here a bit ""heavy-handed"". Good fresh ingredients but too much of some type of seasoning on everything (butter, oil, pepper, whatever it was). Our server was a young kid who didn't know a thing about wines. We ordered a white and he brought us a Cabernet (which obviously wouldn't go with anything we ordered). I think the space and the ambience is great. Pros: Cool space, Ambience, Central location Cons: Food is too heavy, Server more

Great food but awful atmosphere for price 2/11/2005

I have eaten here a few times and I cannot fault the (1) food...BUT...when I am paying that price I expect adequate (2) service and a luxurious (3) atmosphere. You know the song ""Two out of three aint bad""?...well one out of three is. Pros: Food Cons: Price, Service, Atmosphere more

Always a great choice 11/29/2004

Ive eaten at Kingfish Hall for both lunch and dinner maybe 10 or 11 times and Ive yet to be disappointed. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable (great oysters and selection) and the food is great with a great and ever changing menu of specials. It can get noisy but Ive never had it get to the point of distraction. I love the tuna tartar which is spicy and quite unique with firm and fresh tuna chopped on top of a rice and seaweed platform. My other favorite is the swordfish steak served over a tomato polenta, absolutely delicious though the potato wedges were a bit overdone. This place is very pricy ($40+ per person) but worth it, to save money try going for lunch. Cocktails are good; dont be afraid to ask your server for a strong drink. This place is also loads of fun with a large party. Pros: Fresh raw bar, Great atmosphere, Excellent food Cons: , Pricy more

Bad experience 9/22/2004

I've always enjoyed dining at Figs and figured that Kingfish Hall would be a great place to enjoy a nice summer lunch. I was wrong. The food did not taste fresh and everything besides the salad was overly salty (perhaps to cover for the lack of real flavor) and the service was poor. When we politely mentioned that all the food was a bit too salty the server made us feel as if we were mistaken. What's the point of asking how the food is if you don't really care? Overall, I would NEVER eat here again. more

Long Live the King! 5/23/2004

Todd English does a great job at this casual and boisterous eatery. Although it can be crowded and loud, the food here makes it worth the effort. We started our meal with a terrific grilled calamari appetizer; a great alternative to the more common fried version. For our main entree we both ordered different versions of a swordfish steak. My dish was served with an excellent creamy tomato polenta. The fish was quick roasted until crispy on the outside while tender and incredibly juicy on the inside. My partner's was blackend and served with southwestern black-eyed peas. It was the special that evening and was also very good. Service was quick, but our table was located near the bar and it got a little noisy at times. Otherwise, a great dining experience. Pros: Fresh Seafood, Good Service more

Check out the brunch 7/15/2003

The brunch here is fabulous. Rarely crowded. Awesome live jazz. Sit outside to watch the tourist throng through Quincy Market. Pros: Atmosphere, Live Jazz Cons: Service is mediocre more

Unbelievably good 6/30/2003

Went with 3 other people. Everyone's meal was fabulous (Swordfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Cod, & Mahi Mahi). Ordered 2 apps got a 3rd free when the waiter got the order wrong. Ordered 2 desserts got a 3rd free when the waiter got the order wrong again. But everything was great. A bit expensive but definitely worth a trip back. Pros: Great food, Creative dishes, Friendly staff Cons: Pricey more

don't bother 5/21/2003

Don't order margaritas, or the sangria for that matter! Both were bland and not tasty. I would stick to something from a bottle or the tap. The food was good, but none of the four apps we tried were exceptional. I definitely won't be making a trip back. Pros: no wait, good people watching Cons: bad drinks more

Surprisingly bad... 3/19/2003

I've never really had a bad dining experience...till I went to Kingfish. We were overlooked on the waiting list somehow, so we had to wait an extra 20 min. The waiter dropped my fellow diner's dish, splashing everyone within 2 ft. with food. A fish dish was terribly undercooked, and when the waiter came back with it the second time, it was STILL undercooked! Hardly an apology was given to us- and we still had to pay full price for this terrible meal. We even wrote a letter to Todd English, which, to my surprise, was ignored. Cons: Mediocre Food, Bad Service, Crowded more

KingFish has it all!! 1/23/2003

After dining there 5 times, I finally am writing a review of long over due praise. My wife and I have been to many of ""Boston's Best"" and only once in awhile do we agree with what is considered the best. Each and everytime we eat at Kingfish we have a sensenational meal. We love sitting at the bar and watching the chefs prepare our food as well as sitting upstairs over looking the floor below and looking out at the view of Fanuel Hall at night. But what's more important is the food and it has always been perfect. The waitstaff has always been very helpful, be it a drink recomendation or filling up your water. If you looking for a place that has always delivered, I highly recommend Kingfish. more

Wonderful meal 11/26/2002

Went out with my mom (visiting from out of town) and girlfriend. We loved the sushi appetizers: great presentation and better taste. All of our entrees were superb, but nothing could match the desserts! Definitely something to save room for! Our favorites were the coconut creme brulee and the chocolate pecan pie. Yummy! Service was outstanding as well. Pros: fantastic tastes, great service, good wine list Cons: in Faneuil hall more

Outstanding 10/31/2002

My wife and I had the priviledge of dining in this establishment. The food is outstanding and the service was impeccible! I found the menu to be wonderfully varied and in sharing our dining experience with fellow diners, we found their opinion was as ours. A truly outstanding establishment! Pros: Quality of Food more

Terrific! 10/23/2002

This is by far my husband's and my favorite place to go when we want to just relax, catch up and have excellent seafood. We've never had a bad meal, we always ask for the same waitress and our experience each time is superb. Ask for Paula - she's always happy to see us and really makes us feel as if we are her first priority. Attention to service makes a big difference in a diner's experience. Pros: safe area, Quality, Great crowd Cons: Parking, Expensive more

Fish food 10/19/2002

I had the worst meal of my life last night. Nothing tasted fresh. It was served lukewarm after waiting for more than a half hour. Our server seemed quite unaffected by all of this. But I guess he didn't really care as he had so many other tables to contend with. What has happened to this place? I will never be back. Pros: near other restaurant Cons: terrible food, horrendous service, long waits more

Friendly waittress 9/13/2002

We had a great time at Kingfish thanks to our wonderful server, Mary. Her recommendations were right on. The wine she selected matched our palettes as well as our meals. What a wonderful asset you have in her! more

More like frozen fishsticks 8/24/2002

I had the calamari appetizer across the way at Todd's other restaurant, the Rustic Kitchen, and it was fantastic, so I figured Todd's seafood-orientented restaurant would have even better. Unfortunately, I was sadly mistaken. The presentation was horrible, but not as bad as the texure and taste. I thought rubberbands would have had more flavor. The lack of flavor in our calamari was matched by the personality of our server. I think the executive chef should try and actually outdo Chef Boyarde instead of emulating him, and Todd should spend more time on his kitchen staff than his modeling portfolio. Cons: food, service, calamari more

This place has it all, great fish and a wonderfully upbeat atmosphere. Other than Legals, this place gets my top vote Pros: fun Cons: parking more

TODD ENGLISH IS A GENIOUS 8/12/2002

ALL OF TODD ENGLISHES RESTAURANTS ARE GREAT> BUT I HATE CHOWDERS< BUT KING FISH IS PERFECT> CREAMY< JUST DELICIOUS! more

WHAT HAPPENED!!! 7/31/2002

This was one of my favorite retaurants. I have been there atleast 25 times and it was always worth it. Last weekend I went to Todd's Retaurant for dinner. The mood was sour from the first moment I walked in. I stood up front for 10 minutes watching waitstaff snub me. I must have asked 4 different people for help and their standard andswer please wait. It wasn't even busy!!! Unfortunately the story gets worse, but to sum it up: The Hot Food Was Cold and The Cold Food Was Hot! I will try back to see if this was an off night. Todd- Please Pay More Attension!!! Pros: location Cons: expensive, not worth it, rude more
