Good Seafood but expensive and spotty service 3/7/2009

We stopped for lunch because it seemed a little more upscale than the rest of the mix of chains and fast food in the area and we were looking for some good seafood. We got there about 2:00 and were seated immediately. Service was spotty and they did not appear to have enough staff for the number of tables. As far as the food, they had a good selection of oysters (4 east coast 1 west coast) which were tasty. My wife had the lobster roll which was good but not great and I had the Thai Bouillabaisse which was very good but seemed to too many carrots. Overall the food was 4 star but the service was only 3 star so I would give it a 3.5 if that was possible. Pros: Good selection of oysters Cons: Iffy service for the price more

GREAT BAR SERVICE 11/5/2008

I had lunch at Kingfish yesterday and it was wonderful. The bartender, Tina, was very attentive and suggested a great white wine for me to try, which I loved. She was also able to answer all my questions about the menu. I started out with the clam chowder, which was delicious and finished with a ceasar salad. The portions were just right for lunch. Tina checked in with me several times to see how my food and wine was. The bar was relatively busy for a Wednesday afternoon around 12:30, but I noticed that Tina did a great job attending to all the guests. I'll definitely be back! Pros: Service more

Avoid the bar (ghost bartender) 10/15/2008

I went here on a Saturday ( a couple weeks ago) to get luch and had to wait for the missing bartender to take my order ( sure she was pretty busy doing her nails!!!) ordered the burger which was good just for the fries that were kind of greasy. \r Upbeat decor and a little bit smoky from the open grill. service very inattentive (the bartender keeps disappearing every 5 min.) not very professional looking with those tattoos. Cons: Service more

Fabulous! Amazing Calamari and Entrees 5/4/2008

Visited KingFish Friday night with an out of town guest- I enjoy trying restaurants by famous chefs (this one is by Todd English) but unfortunately it seems they often don't live up to the hype. This was NOT the case at Kingfish. Everything was fantastic. The food, the service, the location, the atmosphere. I had the Cod: Atlantic Cod, Pumpkin Silk, Caramelized Onion Tart, Bacon Brussels Spout Salad,Pomegranate Vinaigrette & Toasted Pepitas...$27.95- My guest had the swordfish: Swordfish, Sweet Shrimp Chestnut Risotto, Cavolo Nero, Crispy Pancetta, Chestnut Puree & Orange Segments...$29.95 and we shared the Calamari, which was some of the best I've had... We were too full to try dessert, but definitely would on another visit. I eat in restaurants A LOT b/c of my job, and am a quintissential ""fussy diner"" and KINGFISH Hall was one of the best dinners I have had in a WHILE. I can't wait to try more of Todd English's restaurants! Pros: Amazing food, lot's to do in the area more

Tina is the best 10/10/2007

Tina, who works the bar on week days and Saturday nights, is the best - Food is great, atmosphere, etc. Make sure you tip her well. Pros: everything and look below Cons: parking more

Amazing 7/19/2007

My husband I recently had dinner there on our honeymoon. Our impression was great from the minute we walked in. Everyone was really friendly. We got a great table overlooking the rest. The place smelled great too! Made it hard to decide what to get :-) Our waitress was friendly and kept checking on us throughout the meal. I got the Tuna 2 Ways and it was the best I ever had and the portion was huge. It was seared tuna over rice with tuna tatar on the side. My husband got the swordfish and thought it was the best too. I would totally recommend this place to anyone. It wasn't loud. The menu had a lot to choose from. Enjoy! Pros: food, service, and clean bathrooms. Cons: n/a more

Not worth the money 6/30/2007

What a disappointment. The food tasted great but the service was poor. I could not believe it, the waiter smelled of BO and was wearing a dirty shirt, the tables did not have table clothes(its needed) but they used white cotton towels to clean off the plates before they deliver your food. I almost fell because the upstairs floor was greasy outside of the kitchen. The waiter brought me the wrong soup which thank god I am not alergic to clams. And lastly, the manager had to come over to explain why our deserts were taking so long. If you go and you experience what I did, I recommend you talk to the manager and ask for another waiter. I will never go back. Pros: Food Cons: Service more

Terrible experience. 12/17/2006

I had been to Kingfish Hall once before with my boss, and I had a wonderful and enjoyable experience. But after my experience there Friday night, it's safe to say that I will dissuade anyone I know from wasting their time and money at such an unprofessional establishment. Our waitress was curt, condescending, and completely inept at her job. When I asked our waitress if possible to just order a burger off the menu, she replied, rather condescendingly, ""No"". The only time we saw our waitress the entire night was when she first sat us down, took our order, then brought our drinks 15 minutes later. (I'm sure bringing two drinks was a very daunting and challenging task). Not once did she come to check on us during our meal or ask if we needed anything. She didn't deliver our food, or fill our water, or even take our dishes away. When it came time for the bill, I was hesitant to even leave a tip since our waitress was both terrible and rude, but I was persuaded by my date to leave the minimum (and in this case, generous) 15 percent tip. When I received my credit card statement, I noticed that the amount I paid at Kingfish Hall didn't match my credit card receipt.\r \r THE WAITRESS ALTERED MY CREDIT CARD BILL TO GIVE HERSELF AN ADDITIONAL 5% ON HER TIP!!\r \r Not only was this unprofessional and rude, it's also illegal. I'm calling the appropriate authorities to report my case so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. I hope that when I speak to management they will attempt to remedy the situation and fire the waitress who committed credit card fraud. Pros: None. Cons: Too many. more

Fun Vibe 11/20/2006

i love this place! If you like lobster and want to try something new, tried the Fried Lobster, it is amazing. They also do a great job plating their food to make it a funky and fun adventure! more

THE place to go to impress a client 11/17/2006

I hosted a private dinner in King Fish Hall's beautiful private dining room (complete with it's own bar). The food was extraordinary and the service was exemplary. We were treating very important clients and were trying to make the right impression. Thanks to King Fish hall we did! And everyone raved about the dinner!! Pros: Excellent food & service and attentive management Cons: Bathrooms in the basement more

Disappointing clam chowder 10/26/2006

Four of us went to Kingfish Hall for lunch today and were disappointed by the clam chowder, which has been excellent in the past. This time, there was nary a clam to be found in three bowls, other than the one partially cooked clam in the shell in the bowl. The lobster roll was good, but only contained claw meat. The haddock BLT was soggy, and the fries were sodden stubs. The pad thai was adequate, and the shrimp bowl was perfectly fine. Service was prompt, professional, and friendly with some personality, but as it was a business lunch with a client, we couldn't really say anything about marginal food. We like the atmosphere, but there are better choices in the area. Pros: Ambiance, service Cons: disappointing food more

Mixed Feelings 10/8/2006

Wow this is going to be tough. I went here for lunch today and had very high expectations. I figured a Todd English venue would be excellent and worth the money. I didnt have a problem spending the money because I figured it would be worth it. I sat at the bar and the bartender was new. She didint know anything. I asked what the simple seafood grill of the day was and her response was salmon, thats it. I later overheard the waitresses describing it to their tables and it sounded excellent. It turned out to be some crazy salmon salad which I would have ordered had I known this. So I ended up ordering the fish and chips, I know who orders that. I was born and raised on the cape and hadnt had a good F&C's here yet. The Fish was delicious, but the portion was TINY! It was $25.00 for one small piece of fish, greasy fries, and an iced tea. It was also greasy, and the fries were soaked in grease. How do you mess up french fries? So its a tough call, I would recomend this place due to the atmosphere and the name regognition. Todd you need to get up here and hire some new staff. Look at all your options before you go here. Pros: Good quality food, atmosphere Cons: Portions, staff is clueless and not presentable at all more

Great Char-grilled fish 7/6/2006

Having read a number of not so happy reviews, I was surprised to find that I really like this place. Yes, it's pricey, but then it's in tourist mecca si what would you expect? We have eaten there several times and have loved the food. The Wine List is short and too american, but we always find something we like. It's noisy and bustling downstairs, but great for a fun evening with no one listening in from the next table. It's much less stuffy than No 9 or Aujourd hui and worth wending your way throught the tourists and street performers to get there. The seabass, red snapper and swordfish sticks are fabulous. Have never tried dessert, having preferred to walk around and window shop afterwards. Pros: Aroma, noisy bustle (if that's what you want), friendly wait staff who know the dishes well Cons: Expensive more

Disappointing experience... 4/3/2006

We had so many good meals in Boston but having dinner at Kingfish Hall was not very memorable. The dinner options were limited and the prices were expensive. I had a trio appetizer and the shrimp were so small I could hardly find them on the plate. My husband tried the crab cakes and he felt that it had been prepared several days in advance. Anything from tasting fresh! We left feeling truely disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Boston. more

taste over service? 7/24/2005

The food was really wonderful. Flavorful, beautiful presentation and fairly substantial portions. The maple glazed salmon, the mixed green salad, and the white chocolate bread pudding made for an incredibly tasty meal. The service, however, was greatly lacking. It took nearly 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The appetizers were forgotten and then finally arrived with the main course. The salmon I was sharing was also forgotten and did not make its appearance until the rest of our party was mid-way through the main course. I had to flag down a waiter to order a glass of wine. I shared my entire meal and four drinks, one salad, one entree and two bites of dessert came to over 100 dollars. Perhaps they were having an off night. I dont mind paying a high price for wonderful food. But I expect the service to be on par with the price. more

Some of the best fish anywhere 6/19/2005

Don't pay attention to the bad reviews that cam before me. This is my second Todd English experience, and it was awesome! The food is quite pricey, as a 3-course meal WITHOUT drinks will set you back around $50 per person. The flipside is that the food is beyond fantastic! We had the Chilean Seabass (the best I've ever had), the Yellowfin Tuna, Campfire Trout, Coconut Shrimp Ceviche, Lobster Chowder, and White Chocolate Bread Pudding. All of the food was prepared perfectly and presented elegantly. The interior was fun and unique, and the service was average to slightly above average. Drinks are WAY overpriced. Pros: Fantastic Food, Great Atmosphere Cons: Very Expensive, Overpriced Drinks more
