Good: Atmosphere, friendly service from the owner himself.. Bad: food, cleanliness of restaurant and bathroom.. Improvements: More Egyptian offerings on the menu!.

Love this place! 11/2/2011

Mo is wonderful! The food is great. If you're going at night, be prepared for it to be loud and fun :-) In fact, I would suggest only going at night, and with a big group! You can bring your own alcohol as he does not sell alcohol there. Sodas are served in large flower vases. more

Very unimpressive food 10/24/2011

This was my 2nd and last time here. I was with a large group and we waited an hour for our food. The Greek salad looks impressive, but it's 95% iceberg lettuce, sitting in oil. The oil was like soup at the bottom, disgusting. The dressing was too strong. If you want a great Greek salad, go to Gondolier. The people who ordered chicken were given a piece 3 INCHES BIG. Mo does not take credit cards. I understand that he went over the top because it was a girl's birthday, but the music was way too loud and he never shut it off, therefore our group couldn't talk anymore. The baklava was the smallest piece I have ever seen. He did not offer the checks, we had to ask him for them. And yes, the place is dirty. more

Really fun place 7/21/2011

King Tuts has been a favorite of mine since he opened 18 years ago.\r Not only is Mo a great host, he is a genuine good man and loads of fun.\r He used to have a get smart phone located in the bottom of a shoe on the bar.\r Quirky fun, terrific food and thick muddy delicious Turkish coffee! His deserts are to die for and he does indeed have the more

Best Little Off the Beaten Path Place Ever! 2/17/2011

Before moving out of the area, my wife and I ate at King Tut several times and thoroughly enjoyed it then. Mo and his wife always have the most hospitable attitude, serve great food and the regular attraction ""Dobber"" is always friendly and entertaining. We had lunch there today after being gone almost 13 years and things are status quo. Great job Mo....""I Highly Recommend King Tut"". more

You just need to experience it 12/3/2010

MO AND HIS WIFE ARE GOOD PEOPLE! 3/2/2010

KING TUT, is the most interesting little dive I've ever seen! I use the term dive very politely, I love MO and his wife, but it is what it is. I like this place very much. Mo is the host and a very good one at that,he enjoys it and it shows ! It might be alittle off putting by all the strange objects all over the place but I like it. It adds to the coolness of the place. The food is good too! All the times I've been there,I've eatten the ribs, greek salad, humus, a bean sandwich and two delightfull deserts. All the food great, expecially the humus and greek salad, the best humus I've ever had. This post is making me hungry for humus, I will be heading to King Tut's today. :^) Pros: Fun, warm and inviting people and good food Cons: weird, crowded, and hid away. more

Really dirty 2/3/2009

This place was the dirtiest restaurant I have ever seen. I don't know what the health inspector looked at but the place should be shut down. I'm putting a picture of the health inspection rating along with with actual pictures of the place on line, maybe that will embarrass the health inspector to do his job. Our 3 yr old didn't even want to go into the restroom! Pros: Nice people and fun Cons: Very DIRTY more

Unlike anything Knoxville has to offer 11/6/2008

This was by far the most fun my family and I had dining out in decades. Not only was Mo a superb host, but the food was awesome! And the karaoke after dinner was a blast for all ages. Not for the uptight or prudish, King Tut's is quirky and off the wall. What we succinctly described as a dive growing up on the east coast shoreline. This is exactly what Knoxville needs more of. If you are tired of the same old fare and chain restaurant mediocrity on every street corner in town, head to King Tut's. You will get great service and great food to go with it. Pros: The most unique dining experience in east Tennessee Cons: Looks like a real dive from the outside, easy to miss - look for the traffic light at Pease Furniture more

best EXPERIENCE ever!!! 6/16/2008

this is not for the narrow minded, when following your GPS instructions you will eventually pass it by and almost miss it, since it is a TINY tiny place that looks almost like an abandoned shed. \r It gets better once inside, the place is all dark, barely lit by christmas tree lights and a few light bulbs, and the walls are absolutely packed with funny signs, stuffed heads, letters, weird things and many many more signs. There's only 3 or 4 tables and my guess is you can't fit more than 15 people in there, but I've heard stories about 30 or more going to this place!! \r Mister MO (it doesn't get more Egyptian than that!) will not only greet you and serve you with a smile, but will usually entertain his customers with the weirdest things he can come up with. \r And then comes the food. IT IS SUPERB and trust me you would never ever guess this from the looks of this lost place, you have to try it!! I hear there's karaoke sometimes so I suggest you call in advance (oh yes and be prepared to speak with mo's wife on the phone, she also does most of the cooking and her engRish is great jeje for an Egyptian).\r As I said, this is MUCH MORE than food, this is a true experience for the open minded and the adventurous, I HIGHLY recommend it! EXCELLENT FOOD in THE WEIRDEST OF PLACES.\r 2 more things: \r The place has been running for almost 30 years, there's a reason for this, so DON?T judge a book by it's cover when you get there!\r I THINK HE DOES NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS!!! CALL AND ASK TO BE SURE!! Pros: THE BEST FOOD, THE BEST EXPERIENCE Cons: only for people with an open mind. more

Random, Interesting, 11/29/2007

I randomly went to lunch with a friend of mine. Very quirky, looks a little shady on the outside, random, but-GREAT food! Pros: Random, Quirky, Cheap, Great food! more

Dutch Apple Pie 11/24/2005

If you saw the movie, ""Starman"" where Jeff Bridges as the alien eats his first bite of dutch apple pie, you can relate to the sensation I had when I took my first bite of baklava at King Tut's. I can't actually describe it. An eccentric but excellent restaurant. The best tasting Greek salad I've ever had. Pros: really flavorful food, nice selection, friendly people Cons: not an elegant place more

Dinner and a Show 11/4/2003

A friend of mine took me here when I was in town on business. Looks scary from the outside, but be prepared for a GREAT time! This is NOT fine dining and don't expect a normal restaurant experience. Bring your own bottle - no matching wine glasses, ice tea and soda are served in flower vases. Only one seating at 7:00 and you are expected to be part of the show afterwards! I had the best time and try to go whenever I'm in town! Pros: Inexpensive, Quirky, Fun with a group Cons: Small restaurant, Crowded seating more
