Great selection but a obnoxious manager Lori makes the place intolerable 4/17/2006

Kim's has a fantastic selection, but the priviledged know-it-all manager (who, despite her snobbery can't pronounce a film titile to save her life) makes dealing with the place intolerable. Go Netflix! more

Good selection of videos, but self-righteous staff 9/6/2005

I used to like Kim's Video for the selection. But each time I go in there, the staff is less and less appealing. I probably won't go back. For starters, there are the numerous limitations angrily written on handmade signs and taped to the front door: "no food, no drinks, no bags, no strollers....." I have to stand there and read for 2 minutes to make sure I'm not breaking the rules before I enter. There is an equally condescending message splayed above their after hours drop box. Inside, you can find a good number of video purchases & rentals and cds at or slightly above standard market value. Don't expect much in terms of help or friendliness. I'd rather by from amazon dot com or rent from blockbuster. more

The best alternative to Blockbuster on the UWS 8/18/2005

After moving to the "upper" upper west side I was a bit worried that I would have to rent movies from the dreaded Blockbuster Video. Low and behold, Kim's Mediopolis appeared on Broadway in the Columbia neighborhood. Sister of the infamous Kim's Video locations downtown, this place stocks it all. You can rent or buy almost any sort of film out there. And if your a film buff who follows film by watching certain directors, Kim's downstairs archive section has a section listed by director. For me it's a great way to remember what I haven't seen and what's on the list. Kim's also has a great selection of music and books for sale. They have great sale sections too. A great find for film buffs and modest film goers alike. more
