This place is NOT the same! New owners should NOT be running a Jewish delicatessan. One potato pancake now, pickles are sliced in half and the female co-owner, daughter / cousin whatever is obnoxious and has an answer for everything! The market is going to punish this place as it is no longer what is used to be. Go to 4th street for the real deal. Same owners that owned the dry cleaner in DC that got sued for 70 million! This once-splendid delicatessen has gone down badly under its new owners. They closed it on Sundays, usually the biggest deli day, and close on weeknights at 6:30 p.m. They are constantly out of items on the menu, which Kibbitz never was before their arrival, and they are uncooperative. After coming in two nights in a row and finding they were out of hoagie rolls, as well as of several other things, I asked the new proprietor and proprietress to make more rolls. She laughed in my face, and he argued "In the morning, when we make the rolls, we don't know that you're coming in at five o'clock in the evening. and will want one." If you can't anticipate that you'll have customers, you can't serve them. Although the staff who work for them are friendly and helpful, the owners do not seem to know how to run a delicatessen. They leave me with the impression that customers are an unexpected nuisance. It is sad to see a once-fine place go this way. more

I have only eaten breakfast here but they have the best Challah French Toast. This is a more an eatery than a restaurant. You order at the counter and they call your name. more

Very good smoked turkey reuben for lunch. I would order the half size unless you have a huge appetite. The half size is a big sandwich. They are very generous with the meat. I am a harsh judge of turkey reuben and this one was very good. The best turkey reuben I ever had was at a place called Dish in Charlotte, NC. Yummy. I would order the potato pancakes for your side- they are yummy! Very close to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell (where I work). I am not allowed to recommend places to visitors while at work, so if you are using this for trip planning and want a good place to grab a quick sandwich- this is it! This is the palce for deli in Philly. Pastrami sandwich was as good as any from the big NY delis and the corned beef wasn't far behind. Tremendous black/white cookies to finish the meal. If you're a deli fan this is a must stop when visiting Independence Hall/Liberty Bell area. Pros: food Cons: parking more

"New York" style deli? Maybe the price ($14.00 for a half sandwich, matzoh ball soup, and diet coke). However, the sandwich was not very meaty ergo not that "New York" and the pastrami had a kind of odd medicine taste. Even though the soup was good, I wasn't impressed with how the deli cut. Kibitz in the City has deli items, some of which are so good, that you'll forget your outside of the Big Apple. Excellent pastrami sandwiches that can be bought by the half or whole. Decent skinned hot dogs on seeded buns. I tried the grilled cheese which was delicious because of the wheat bread. French fries were more like a combination of steak fries and potato wedges...nothing special. Very friendly counter service also features a large menu of soups, other sandwiches, and items like chicken that you eat at one of the many tables in front of the restaurant or upstairs. Be sure to save room for the black and white iced cookies (in two sizes- big and bigger) as well as other big and small cookies, cakes, and napoleons for dessert. more
