to all of you who have heard bad things 2/1/2010

For many years I have heard so many negative comments about doing business at Kieths that it kept me away until yesterday. I have been shopping for an AR for a few weeks now and finally decided to check out the inventory. I was greeted almost immediately and received help and advice from 3 different people including Kieth himself. Twice they went to a warehouse across the street to bring me rifles they thought I might like. and after purchase Kieth also offered for me to contact him on any future questions about the gun. they could not have been more friendly and helpful. prices were very reasonable. Please dont let the neg. comments keep you away. more

Here is What Shocks ME!! 1/27/2010

What shocks me is that Keths actually has a 3 star rating overall? What a joke. I'm not some Nancy boy that has sensitive feelings or needs my hand held over gun purchses either. I'm a former Special Forces Sniper and I have made a purchase at Keiths.\r \r .Keiths has the largest selection and Sells more firearms than anyplace within 800 miles.\r \r Keiths sells all new firearms at 5% over dealer cost and due to their volume they are ""master dealers"" with many manufacturers. If Keiths doesn't have what you want in stock they will open the order guide right in front of you showing you their cost and how many of such weapons the manufactuer has in their pipeline and how much it will be ship the weapon.\r \r How do they stay in business?? That gets asked alot.\r \r YOU KEEP GOING there....we can vote someone out of business......we vote with our wallets. Pay a touch more and go somewhere else, support local mom and pop gunshops or god forbid actually a place that has a GUNSMITH. Order off the internet., buy at gunshows. If you need a place that has alot of guns on the walls go to the GUNROOM in Portland.....and guess what they have gunsmithing, good prices, nice nice people. Keiths makes their money on used guns and ammo and accesories......they charge way more than most for similar items. And you won't get any trade in value there because no business can live off of 5% profit on merchandise across the board. Thats why all their other stuff is marked way up. And this isn't one of these deals ""someone should call the owner and let him know"" KEith himself works there in sales....he taught everyone how to treat customers like crap. Go in on a day when there are 5 salepeople standing around talking. Look at and handle guns for an hour......nobody will talk to you. About 4-5 years ago I went into KEiths with my daughter..about 4 at the time. I wanted a Colt AR15 to shoot at Camp Perry(NAtional Long Distance Rifle match) I grabbed it off of the shelf and went to the counter after an hour of looking. 4-5 months later I went to the Gunshow at the Expo.......for grins I went to the KEiths booth 12 times 5 minutes each......they were dead and I never got talked to. I made sure to look at Keith directly in the face each time to get a knod or greeting.........he was helping nowone and said nothing. I bought my rifle from him. I went back for lucky 13 trip to his table and just to mix it up I looked at him and said ""how you doin? I bought a rifle from you guys a few months back and know I need a new 1911""I was smiling and friendly and telling the truth........he just stared and me....no help not even a knod.\r Take your business elsewhere....mom and pop gunshops are closing and I sure Keith and his staff read all these reviews and laugh as they sell 7000 firearms a year and kick people out 10 minutes prior to closing. Pros: price/selection Cons: no customer service/impolite more

TERRIBLE customer service - do NOT shop here!!! 1/12/2010

I arrived at Keith's 10 minutes before they closed and was going to purchase a new shotgun. I was asking one of the girls questions that she did not have the answers to. She wanted me to wait for one of the old men there to help me, of which there were two at this point. One with grey hair and the other with black hair and a beard. They took their sweet time to come and answer my questions. Once they did, I told them that I wanted to purchase this particular gun. They proceeded to tell me that they were closed now and that I would have to come back on Monday. I said "so you are telling me that you don't want my $400 right now?" They replied "no, we don't, but we'll take it on Monday." Even though I arrived before the store closed, they refused to sell to me. Pure laziness from these two men. I ended up buying a much nicer gun for just a bit more money at one of their competitors. \r \r I hope they are happy, they lost a sale and they lost their boss $400. \r \r I would NEVER shop here agai more

Keith's Sporting Goods 1/9/2010

Keith's has a large inventory and their prices are competitive if not lower than the other gun shops in PDX. Their ammo prices are so-so but they do have a selection that beats most other area shops. I've made a few purchases here and like the staff and would recommend them to my friends. more

amazing collection & selection best bye far in pdx metro are 11/12/2009

after reading mostly negative reviews i was concerned about how i might be treated @ keiths. regardless, figured i'd prepare myself for some abrasive non interested staff. the store was FULL of customers, many or most making purchases. my friend & i walked around no more than 3 minutes, was specifically seeking a 1911, & keith himself asked if he could be of any assistance. told him what i wanted & he explained he needed to 'check stock'. this is done using the cashier computer, so if someone is using it they CAN""T check. he found what i wanted & had to go to another location to get the weapon. then returning w/in 5 minutes w/the amazing Colt Delta Elite 10mm ; ) the price was one of the better i've seen in person or online, so went ahead to initiate my purchase. they were out of ammo & i put the handgun on layaway, as i only had a few hundred cash on me. i've also called more than a few times getting positive, helpful results. i've now visited their store numerous occassions. a friendly interested saleperson always asks if i need any help & don't mind if you just look @ their amazing collection of handguns/rifle/ammo, you name he likely has one in stock. DON""T be mislead by the negative reviews, attitude is usually a reflection from ones self. i've gone in w/positive attitude & those are the only results i've experienced. i also asked all of my leo/military buddies where the best place in northwest for buying any firearm or accessory, ALL recommended keiths Pros: selection/ammo/very knowledgeable staff Cons: it's in gresham : ( more

Terrible 11/5/2009

Keith's is huge, so yeah, they have stuff and can deliver on items. What good is that for the average gun person that has a limited but fondness for guns? Your customer base is going to want to ask questions about merchandise. Sorry that's the deal, and when you are talking about big purchases, especially in this economy, you should be prepared as a business owner to explain whatever the customer wants to know about the gun. It's silly really. I don't mind the wait. I know they are swamped, especially when I walk in and see the number of people in that place. The problem I have is the attitude of most of his staff. If the job sucks so bad and you hate it; for goodness sake maybe gun retail is the wrong business for you. Don't take it out on the people that are ultimately paying your salary. He is still in business with terrible service because there isn't another choice in the area. Pros: Have everything Cons: Can't seem to take the time for anything more

Overall, best gun shop 10/31/2009

To understand this shop-there are a LOT of guys who come in around noon. The place can be a zoo....You cannot hire a slaesperson to work just the noon hours when it is busy. So, if you want some ""one on one"" then come in in the AM or maybe later in the afternoon, maybe aroun 3-4.\r \r I placed a pre order at Gun Broker-used my CC and after a week they could not deliver, and took the 3% from my CC deposit for not being able to deliver!\r \r Went to Keith's, Keith himself called the distributors he used; he was on the phone like 20 minutes (he could have passed it to one of his employees) . He located the gun on the third call, and ordered their entire stock (6 pistols-limited editions). \r \r Plus this was a $2300 suggested retail gun; the priced I got was $1600. Now, he obviously knew I wanted this gun enough to pre pay (deposit). He could have quoted me a much higher price-he did not. I think this is really amazing service.\r \r Really, if you know something about guns, if you are at Keith's it is amazing all these guys that come in that simply take up the salesperson's time! They don't seem to have any interest in actually buying-they are just looking like they are in a museum!!!! So, it's no wonder they may appear short when you come in.\r \r When I come in, they realize I pretty much know what I want-and if used-I'm going to ask what Mags, or papers might be with the gun. Or if it comes with the special take down tool for this unusual gun.....And if the answers and price is right;I buy it.\r \r So give them a break!\r \r Pros: Best prices, best selection Cons: Busy especially around noon more

Another one bites the dust. 10/17/2009

I've been into Keith's before to feed my guns, and I can't deny that they will have more ammo than anyone else will. It usually takes twenty minutes or more for them to go get the ammo for me, but I've never had a problem outside of waiting to buy things. I don't mind waiting, being a customer service sort of person myself. Today, however, I called in for the first time. I got a busy tone the first three times I tried, which can happen to anyone. I finally get on the line with someone, I ask if they have a leather shoulder holster for a Sig P226. No hello-how-are-you's, no time wasted on niceties. I'm not out to chat, I'm out to buy. The lady on the other end asked me to hold, and in no time at all she was back on the line saying that they were too busy to go check, and that I should come down and see for myself. I promptly replied that it was a thirty mile drive each way for me, and I wasn't going to drive sixty miles just to check to see if they had an item in stock. She said okay, and nothing else. So I thanked her for her time, told her I'd keep looking, and hung up. I can't think of a decent excuse for not being able to spare thirty seconds to look on your own store wall, or type a few keys on a computer to see if you've got an item in stock. All I can think of is how Keith's has lost another customer. I've been in customer service for a decade. I've done all sorts of crappy jobs and all sorts of nice jobs, but one thing that I've found in all my jobs behind a counter is that customers can tell if you're making an effort. They are usually very forgiving, so long as they know you are making an effort. I try not to expect much in terms of customer service, since I know everyone has bad days and ups and downs and problems of their own to worry about. Just do your job, and for god's sake TRY a little. I can hardly believe it, but they have failed to meet the barest expectations I had for them. Just pick up the phone, answer my one short question about whether or not you have the item available for purchase in your store, and I'll be down today to pick up the item and give you money. Easy money for a half-minute of effort. Was that really so hard, Keith's? I will never spend another nickel at your shop, and I will convince everyone I know to do the same. I'll get into reloading if I have to, just to keep my guns fed. Whatever keeps me and my friends out of your shop and away from the abysmal customer service that only you, it seems, can provide for us. Thank you for enlightening me. Pros: Lots of ammo. Cons: Tragically uninspired customer service. The absolute worst. more

Not sure how they stay in business..... 10/10/2009

I'm 60 years old and I can't remember the last time I was in any business where I felt more ""invisible"". I went to purchase a handgun and was pretty sure I knew what I wanted. I did have a couple of questions I wanted to ask. I was completely ignored for 10-15 minutes as I looked at the various gun displays and waited for someone to assist me. There were only two other customers in the store and there were apparently at least 3 employees working, but none asked if they could help or offered any type of greeting or acknowledgement. After at least 15 minutes of being ignored, I finally attempted to ask my questions........ the response was ""those are what I have and I won't be getting any more."" The end. It would be hard to imagine how it could have been any less friendly. If their idea of customer service is to make prospective customers so uncomfortable they will leave............they are pretty good at it. So I left. Unbelievable. Pros: You aren't likely to waste time on a second visit Cons: They don't even ""pretend"" to want you as a customer more

Fine customer service, great selection & prices 9/16/2009

There are certainly many bad reviews about Keith's, but I continue to drive from Beaverton for their great selection and prices - and I have always been treated with the finest respect. Please understand that they are a very busy store, and they may not have time to hold your hand as you investigate the possibilities. Or perhaps your poor attitude or lack of firearm savvy is the problem. I always arrive with a certain knowledge of the goods I need to investigate, and they provide me with all of the help I need. On one visit, Keith himself walked over to their warehouse to obtain a holster type that I needed. So go in with some knowledge, keep a cool head, and you will have a fine transaction. more

Do They Go Out of Their Way To Provide Horrible Service??? 8/10/2009

Think of your worst experiences at DMV. How about a courthouse? Ever dealt with the IRS? Local and Federal Gov't agencies are famous for horrendous service. Should you visit Keith's on the right day, you will think EVERY EMPLOYEE in the place got his or her start working at the Passport Office. As terrible as they are at providing service, if you know exactly what you want, have a thick skin, and are prepared to wait up to an hour for service, they do offer a good inventory of ready-to-sell weapons. But if you have a few questions, or aren't a lifetime gun nut and would like some help... foogetabutit!! Instead look at the GunRoom on Powell? Blvd. in PDX. They are always quick to answer and offer all the info at their disposal. They are more like a nice, normal family who sell guns. They treat you as you expect and actually help you make the right decision and be an informed buyer. Is that too much to ask? Apparently at Keith's, the answer is yes. Pros: excellent handgun and long gun selection Cons: Vying with Gov't Agencies for Worst Service in State... more

outstanding service 8/5/2009

I was at the Eugene Gun show a couple of weeks ago.\r I went to many of the gun dealers there but a salesman\r there helped me and my wife and we bought 2 guns. I had never been helped so much. He new the porduct\r answered all of our questions and made sure it was the right one for us. His name was Jack. We will do business again and a again with this salesman.\r Thank You so much. Pros: Customer service more

best prices, but educate yourself first... 8/4/2009

yes, yes, yes, the customer service at Keith's can ...We have detected the following inappropriate words in the details.... Keith's has the best price in the metro (northwest?) area for whatever it is you are interested in. The selection is usually beyond that of any other store. \r \r The hitch is that you need to be informed prior to going to the store. If you are looking for information, this is probably not your best stop...google is yer friend. However, if you know what you are looking for, know the specs of the piece, Keith's is usually the price to beat.\r \r There are some knowledgable folks in the store, and if they have nothing better to do (like selling something to a bonefide paying customer), they can provide some useful information. That said however, most times I've been in, there are so many sales being processed, that only basic questions would be answered.\r \r If you need more info, do your research first. I'll also second other's recommendations of Gun Broker (Clackamas and Tigard)...their prices are not much higher and have better customer service. Their selection, while very good, is somewhat less that what Keith's has. Pros: best price Cons: cust service is shakey more

Best Ammo selection 8/4/2009

We all now how hard it is to find Ammo now. What used to be sportsmans has a selection they should be ashamed of. Walmart, Bi-mart, and many other gun stores just fall short. .223 9mm 40, & 45 are very basic common rounds to have and Keith's has them not only in stock, but in every brand and flavor available. I will repeat my business with them and will tell others to do so as well. Pros: Best ammo selection around Cons: closes too early on the weekends more

no more 7/23/2009

just too much. more

Excellent service and support 7/20/2009

Dennis from Keith's sporting goods waited on me. he showed me several rifles to find the best fit for me. After we made the selection he took the time to fit a recoil pad and mount my scope and bore sight it. He offered to do this without my asking him. He did it promptly and expertly. This is the best sporting goods purchase experience I have ever had, and I have had many. Bravo Dennis! Keith's is highly recommended. I will be back for more too. Pros: Great service on fitting a rifle more

No Time for Customers!! 7/11/2009

Keith's is a fantastic place to go if A) you don't know ANYTHING about guns and B) you have tons of money to spend on them! That way you won't realize how misleading and wrong the information is you are getting from the ""experts"" behind the counter. You see them in your travels from gun shop to gun shop, the ""gun store commando"". They have a difficult time telling the difference between a 6.5x284AI and a .50 BMG! Keith's seems to be full of them. To the new gun buyer or prospective Keith's customer, save yourself some time and aggravation. Any gun shop in town can get you what Keith's has...they will just do it while treating you as a valuable customer rather than a problem to be dealt with. I have been an IDPA shooter for 10 years, a CCW permit holder for 17 years, an active benchrest shooter for 25 years, reloading for 25 years and I am a lifetime NRA member. I have spent my whole life around and with guns and gun people...That's why I don't go to Keith's. Pros: There not close to me. Cons: They just won't seem to go out of business. more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced 7/1/2009

I will not be back. Enjoy the good times. more

The Best Beehives are Busy 6/11/2009

Keith's staff treats me like family, and all I've ever done to deserve that is show up. When I have an FFL transfer, someone drops what they're doing to log it in and get me checked out; I don't expect that treatment, they just do it. They're a very busy shop because they have the best selection for 100 miles in any direction. There is a staff member for every 5 ft of counter space, and they still keep up. They're kind to my kids, fair with me, and from what I've seen over 3 years' time, fair and polite to everyone who walks in. Be patient - they know you're there and they'll get to you. Highly recommended. Pros: Fantastic selection Cons: Popular and often crowded more
