I have heard so many positive reviews about this place which influenced me to go in the first place. But honestly I just couldn't write a positive review not even a neutral one because I had a fairly negative experience. Okay... it was terrible. I guess all the people that had a bad experience were too lazy to write a review. Well, I'll be honest I am lazy too. But not lazy enough to warn people about overated low quality salon. I went in to get a cut, color, and style which ended up costing over 300.00. I thought it was a bit expensive because other places charge much less. The color 130.00 for highlights plus an extra 65.00 dollars for the base color, which she did not mention. The cut itself was petty and unprofessional. She basically snipped here and there charged me another 60.00 dollars. I could have gone to procuts. She basically snipped my bangs when I specifically told her I wanted layers and tapering on the sides. Whatever. She then colored my hair 3 times before she got it right, the first time it didn't even show up so she had to redo it which took about 2 more hours. I basically sat in the salon for a total of 4.5 hours. By the time everything was done, I had a nice color but my hair was fried and overprocessed. She didn't seem apologetic at the least and blamed it on "miscommunication." Beware brunettes, hair will turn red or orange. My hair used to be silky and shiny... now its irreversibly damaged and fried. I mean I didn't think I would have to sacrifice the texture of my hair to get a nice color. I literally walked out of the salon with flat and dull hair, every bit of my natural shine and sheen was stripped from my hair. I personally did not enjoy my experience at this salon. However, it seems as if other people did. I just thought I would give my two cents. In short, if you are looking for color, shine, and quality, this salon is not for you. Keith Kristofer Salon is one of the best in Austin!! I have lived in Austin for 17 years and have tried several salons with many disappointments. Kieth Kristofer Salon has been one of the best! I have always been treated wonderfully by the staff and Ray is AWESOME ! He truly listens and cares and has styled my hair to complete perfection! Ray has also done the SOCAP hair extensions for me and they look absolutely beautiful and blend so perfectly with my natural hair,I can hardly tell where my real hair ends and the extensions begin, he truly did an amazing job!!! I will be a client for LIFE!! Thank you Ray for making me look and feel absolutely beautiful!!! :-) more

i just got an AWESOME cut and color from sarah. everyone there was very nice and accomodating. i immediately got offered water, something to read, asked if i was comfortable, asked about the water temp - she could not have been nicer or more professional. and she is VERY good at what she does. i had been seeing the same hairdresser for about four years, so i admit, i was a bit apprehensive, but sarah was so nice and welcoming that i felt very comfortable with her in minutes. she did exactly what i asked for (which was somewhat indepth, i got a bright red and blonde mix highlight) and she did a great job. i highly recommend this salon!!! :) more

I just moved to Austin and used Citysearch to find a place to get my haircut. I thought with the ratings this salon received it should be tops. I was disappointed that my haircut was just so so, usually my hairdressers in the past cut then blowdry, then go back and re-check the cut to see if it's perfect. Not here, I was in and out in about 35 minutes, which is fine if the cut is awesome. I actually had a piece that stuck out longer on one side I ended up trimming myself after paying $60! Yikes! The staff is very nice and friendly and it's a beautiful salon, I think I will continue to search for a hairdresser. Pros: Friendly staff, quick service Cons: Nothing special for a high price more

I chose this salon based on Citysearch reviews. The first visit, I was shocked at the price - very high compared to what I have paid on both the East and West coasts at similiar salons. Cut, color, highlights were just OK. Decided to give it another try and to be more specific about what I wanted - second time, much better. Went downhill from there, still at VERY high prices. Last cut looked like hair on a ragdoll. Overall, nice facility, although very noisy, friendly people, good products, so-so cuts, WAY OVERPRICED. Pros: Nice building, good parking, friendly staff. Cons: Prices, noisy, inconsistent service. more

Hi All- I can see that lately there has been some skepticism regarding the authenticity of reviews on this site. I would just like to state that this review is COMPLETELY authentic. This is my first time on City Search, and I signed up only to let others know about the amazing service I have received from the esthetician (Amber) at Keith Kristofer salon. I am new to Austin and have been getting my brows waxed/plucked by Amber for about 4 months. Not only is she a joy to spend 20 minutes with monthly, but she is a brow genius! I have had brow waxings at my fair share of upscale salons in several cities, but I have never had them done so thoroughly! Furthermore, they are shaped perfectly for my face. I really appreciate what a great job she does because I am very particular about my brows. Before Amber I would go home after a waxing and finish the job myself, but with her there is not a stray hair to be found. Another really great service she recommended to me was lash dying. I have very light lashes, and having them dyed has been perfect! No more mascara for me! Amber applies the dye with great care and ensures that it stays out of the eye and only on the lashes. To top it off she is so warm and friendly! I highly recommend the above services and am sure she does an amazing job with facials and her other services. If I werent a penniless student I would be making appointments with her for all of them! more

I love Keith Kristofer. They have been my hair salon for about nine months and have never disappointed me. I have quite difficult curly hair that I have been highlighting blond since I was thirteen. I moved here for prom after my usual stylist was booked. I choose Janessa due to the wonderful reviews here. Janessa was the first stylist I have ever been to that I was immediately happy with my hair afterwords. She even stayed late at the last minute when I realized the day before graduation that I could not even hope to make my hair as beautiful as she did. Janessa has since moved away, but I highly recommend anyone else on staff. I have never seen a bad hair cut walk away from here, and everyone on staff is friendly and remembers long past conversations. An all-around wonderful experience. When I go to a salon I look for quality, professionalism, atmosphere and talent. I want to pay for great hair and a great experience. Tiffany H has been my dresser for 4 years. I see her regularly at Keith Kristofer Salon in Westlake. She is amazing. Not only is she ridiculously skilled, she has a great heart. I walk out every time with fantastic hair. She continues to impress me with her natural talent and professionalism. You know you have found a good one when up-do's, cuts, colors, highlights, processes are ALL exceptionally done. I have to book her in advance but it is worth it! She recently did an up-do for my birthday party- everybody loved it all night including me! She totally made my night! Thanks Tiffany! more

This salon is the best I have ever been to. The service was outragiously good, and the employees were really helpful. I had my hair colored by Kris and it was amazing. My style was done by Carrie, and it turnned out awesome. I highly recomend this salon to anybody who love to be pampered and feel special. Cons: none more

If you happen to go there go see Janessa. She does great work and listens to what kind of look you are going for and understands what kind of hair cut is best for you. She has a great fun yet professional demeanor that makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. more

I visited the salon for the first time a couple of weeks ago and asked for someone who does well with cutting curly hair, so they put me with Kris. She was very friendly and easy to talk to, and asked a lot of questions about my hair before even starting on it. Kris noticed that I had a not-so-great previous haircut (from another salon) and she blended in the layers better. She did a great job on the cut, and asked if I wanted my hair blown dry straight or curly (I can't stand it when a stylist doesn't ask first). I opted for straight and she admitted that she is not the best at a blow out, but she still did an excellent job. I also love the Kerastase line they carry, and they never pressured me to buy anything. The only disappointment I had was when I originally scheduled the appt, I asked how much the cut would be and they said anywhere from $50-65, depending on my hair & the kind of cut I wanted. I had never heard of anyone charging like that before, but didn't argue...then as I was paying, they informed me it would be $60. I have shoulder-length hair and it wasn't a complicated cut, so I'm not sure why it was $10 more than the normal rate. I didn't have the heart to complain since I was pleased with my cut. Ray cut my hair today. Very impressed with use of a straight razor to clean up the neck and around the ears, and impressed that he was so fast. He took 1/2 the time of my previous stylist and did a better job. Great cut, very nice people and good customer service. I was even late 20 minutes...Keith and Ray were still very accommodating and pleased to have my business. WILL GO BACK, no doubt ya'll. more

After having a terrible experience at another salon for a mani/pedi, I called Keith Kristofer to schedule an appointment ASAP! They squeezed me in THAT day, even though it was an hour before closing. Cyndee, the manicurist even stayed past closing to finish my nails. She personally greeted me when I came through the door and listened to my horror story. She reassured me that she has been in this business for 13 years! I was very impressed with her talent and skill, and she also made several great recommendations about how to keep my nails in shape and what shapes and colors flatter my skin tone the most. I have been going to the Keith Kristofer Salon for 9 months and can honestly say I have never been dissatified with the work Sarah has done on my hair. I have my hair washed and flat ironed every week and as needed highlighted. Sarah has been a godsend to me, and the rest of the staff has been helpful and friendly especially Kris, Ray, and Kristen. I probably had the best in my life shampoo from Ray, he was wonderful to me. Recently I have set up a Bridal Party hair session. We will be have 13 member's of my Son and his Fiancee's Bridal Party done on May 20th. It should be a fun morning for all. I totally and highly recommend this salon and any of the stylist's to anyone. They are very proffessional but also very welcoming. I am so thankful to have found them. After going to just about every top salon in Beverly Hills, CA, I was worried about finding a place to go to in Austin. I have naturally dark brown hair and dye it blonde and it's not an easy job to maintain. Tiffany did my hair better than anyone i have ever went to Los Angeles and i was really happy to find someone here. I highly recommend her... Pros: Great Color Cons: NONE more

I don't get it...what's with all these great reviews? I think the staff is writing these. It makes me suspicious when a business has glowing reviews from people that have never reviewed another business. I've been to this salon a few times and although I enjoyed my services, there was nothing that stood out to me. Highlights are good, hair cut was a little iffy. I had been a patron to various Aveda concept salons for almost ten years, but after my last stylist went M.I.A. I decided I needed a change. Although my last colorist (who is still at the salon) had been skillful, the overall service and vibe of the cramped salon was not enough to bring me back for another year. I decided to try Keith Kristofer. My new stylist, Ray, was so warm and professional and I cannot recommend him highly enough. He transformed my long drab dark locks into golden natural looking highlights and I get compliments all_ the_time. The hair mask I had added to my service was wonderful for my dry hair and the Kerastase products I picked up are absolutely incredible. I will definitely be back to try other services and to visit my new stylist/colorist, Ray. I left the salon feeling radiant and still do... thanks! Pros: friendly staff, ample parking, quality more
