This is one of the worst doctors I have ever been to. He does a complete disservice to his patients by not taking any notes. Every session felt like the first session because he is so forgetful on top of his poor note taking! He lost my records at one point. He made about 3 copies of my insurance card because he kept losing the copies. He sometimes would be late for appointments and he would also spent the first 20 minutes of the appointment checking his messages. Also, the office is a real mess. The biggest thing was he wrote me a prescription without any refills. After a week of calling him, my pharmacy calling him daily to no response, not having any meds for a week (not good!), and him being 20 minutes late to my appointment, I decided I had enough. I called my general practitioner who thankfully wrote a prescription for me and filled it within the day. I will be seeing a new psychiatrist, hopefully I can get someone who treats me seriously. more

My own experience with Dr. Ray was much different than upsetdaughter. I suppose since the review did not come directly from her mother perhaps something was lost in translation. In my own case, the Doc helped me out of severe depression and has been very supportive. In fact since I had little money, he graciously wrote several reports for me so that I could receive disability benefits without certainty that he would be paid for it. Of course, as part of my disability claim, I got the insurance company to eventually pay him for the reports since he spent many hours on them. But he never once made payment an issue! One thing I have noticed is that insurance companies and prescription companies think nothing of wasting a doctor's time by making everything more time consuming. Since I have been seeing him, my insurance company has screwed up payment to him over five times. He has never bothered me about it other than to ask me to check into it with my company. I did and they paid but months later. Any doctor needs to be paid for his time and a psychiatrist only gets paid for the time spent with patients. When companies take up time during the day, that means less patients seen. He does not have a staff and this is a burden for him when companies sometimes make him wait on hold for 20 minutes or more. This delays the next patient too. It's not about money but courtesy, or the lack of it, from the insurance companies and prescription plans. I would recommend him to anyone and have! When I first was treated with Dr. Kaplan I had severe panic attacks and a deep dpression. I was barely able to work although I had a large family to support. Dr. Kaplan was excellant at helping me deal with the issues and getting me back on my feet. He has a very understanding approach. He is easy to talk to. I have found that he is readily available to contact if some problem arises that I need some immediate input (e.g. if I am out of town on busines or vacation). This is important for patients like me suffering from a panic disorder. I found his charges to be very reasonable. He is one of the rare breed of true psychiatrist in the true sense , a highly qualified medical doctor with good understanding of phramacolgy and excellant therapy skills. Dr. Kaplan must be the worst physchiatrist on the face of the earth. He has no empathy or compassion and only cares about how much he is making. He won't deal with a patient unless he makes enough money from the insurance company. He is condescending and cruel and should never be allowed to deal with patients. His license should be revoked. He speaks very nasty to patients. He told my mother that he wouldn't help her with her prescription because ""it's not worth it to me and I'm not getting paid for it."" He is an old man who should have retired a long time ago or should never have started practing in the first place. Maybe he should take Simon Cowell's place on American Idol since he can be so hurtful and cruel. more
