Kan Zaman is our "go to" for healthy, Mediterranean style food in Chicago. The food is fresh, not greasy, and packed with flavor. Delivery is always very fast. Would highly recommend this place, plus the falafels are to die for! more

Good Lebanese Food! 3/15/2010

The restaurant was closed for our group of 100. We rec'd very personl service. And everyone loved the great Belly Dancer! (And the food was good too) Pros: Atmosphere was awesome! Great service. Cons: The hummous was a little dry. more

Good Food if You Like Garbage 2/6/2009

Seriously?! Who are these people that venture to this place? Have they not eaten amazing Lebanese food and been tricked into thinking this is good? This place is awful. The food was dry - I had a filet mignon shish kabob (the special of the night) and lacked any taste of olive oil or salt for that matter. The appetizers were mediocre in taste and small in size (the hummous was the worst thing I've ever had). I decided to go on a Friday night to catch the belly dancers, which were the highlight of this restaurant. This place has horrible acoustics because everything echos and people yell to hear eachother. I had a headache when I left and I can't be sure it was due to the loudness of the restaurant or the disgusting food. This is a definite pass. Pros: the bellydancer comes around to dance with various tables Cons: took forever to get a glass of water filled, the food lacked taste or oil, the acoustics force you to scream at your company more

Best restaurant ever!!! 11/2/2008

I stumbled across this place 4 years ago with some friends and we decided to give it a try. And I'm so glad we did because since then it is my favorite restaurant!!! It has a great atmosphere. You can either sit at a regular table or you can take off your shoes and sit on pillows around a table! It is BYOB which helps cut down on cost when going out! But cost isn't really even an issue when dining there because everything is so moderately priced!! I love the mediterranean spinach which is like $11, and there are always leftovers to take home! Everything on the menu is fantastic!!!!!!! Just writing this review makes me want to go there right now! This is a great place to go with friends or even for a romantic date! more

Food was great and generous portions. Had the fattoush salad (very good, but more minty than we're used to), sauteed green beans, dopas, lentil soup, chicken kabob and kefta kabob (both were excellent but I'd recommend pearled wheat instead of rice). Only complaint is that our mango juice came delivered on its side and it spilled half the glass throughout the bag. more

Shawarma-Licious!!! 9/26/2007

Mmmmmmm, chicken Shawarma. I really dig this place, a great lunch spot in River North. Service is so-so, but what?s really important is the food. Best Chicken Shawarma in Chicago. I cant say Im an expert at Middle Eastern food, but I Know Yummy when I taste it, and Kan Zaman has plenty of it! Price could be a little lower for lunch in my opinion, but whatever, its not outrageous. Did I mention the Chicken Shawarma (with extra Tahini sauce)! Pros: Shawarma, Nice open airy space in summer Cons: a little expensive, but not too bad more

Fabulous Lebanese food! 3/6/2007

Excellent Place - have lived in the MIddle East for a few years and this is the real deal - exactly as it is in Middle East! more

Great experience 7/2/2006

The food was delicious, service excellent (although it wasn't busy at the time) and the atmosphere was pleasing. We had a few appetizers, lamb and beef sausages in tomato sauce, which was excellent, and also the Baba Ghounoush, which was ok. There were four of us so we all got something different and shared a little. The beef kabobs were excellent as was the chicken. Meals include white rice or wheat, all of which was good. You also get salad or soup, my Lentil soup was excellent. One person in our party ordered a spinach dish which was delicious. We all had coffee and baklava for dessert and our total bill for dinner was $101.00 before tip. I will definitely stop here again the next time I am in town. more

pricey 6/16/2006

They charged me $14 for a $8-lunch entree because it was a weekend!for a fatoosh, shawerma plate ,soup and hooka the bill was $58.Portions were small.food was good tho.Atmosphere was nice. more

FORMER favorite lunch spot 4/20/2006

I used to go to Kan Zaman for lunch almost twice a week. The food is fantastic, and the service is good. It was a great deal, for about $10 or less. However, a couple of weeks ago, the menu changed and the priced jumped, making the lunch about $14 now, and it is just not the same deal. I know a lot of people in my office, and friends in the River North area used to go here as often as I did for lunch, and now all are boycotting it! what a disappointment!!! i have a feeling they will lose a lot of business from this stunt, but if you want a good mediterranean lunch, it really is great. im just so mad about the price! try the combo kabob or vegetarian combo! Pros: awesome food Cons: PRICE JUMP more

Great Middle Eastern Restaurant 4/17/2006

The food was so good here! And, it is true Middle Eastern food according to my Middle Eastern friends. As for the atmosphere, it's great except when the belly dancer is doing her thing. It gets a little too loud in the restaurant. Other than that, this is a great place that includes hookas. Pros: Inexpensive, Not Crowded, Variety more

Just Like Mom's! 4/16/2006

This place has quickly risen to the top of my favorite spots list. It's easy to get to, the staff is fantastic, the decor and ambience is great for a sophisticated dinner with friends or a romantic dinner with ""you know who."" Top it all off with a delicious menu of traditionally prepared and presented Lebanese specialties. You can't go wrong. I also love that the wait staff didn't pressure us to go when we clearly wanted to sit and chat over our tea after dinner. Very european -- they give you your space and approach when you appear ready for your bill. Pros: Easy to get to, Walk In! (weekdays), prompt service more

  • The Scene
A River North mix of suits and business-casual types meander into this pleasant space, where fringe-beaded lamps, a long shelf of Middle Eastern knicknacks and dolls, and rich-colored tapestries on soft yellow walls make for an exotic, upscale-casual vibe. The side room is even cozier, with raised tables and seating on plush pillows and blankets.

    The Food
The very affordable Lebanese menu touches on all the classics, and there's no better way to start exploring than with the vegetarian combo, a big sampler platter of creamy-tangy hummus, chilled dolma (stuffed grape leaves), baba gannouj, tangy feta cheese and warm, tender falafel with tahini sauce--plus a basket of fresh-baked pita on the side for dipping. From there, you can choose lentil soup or a simple Lebanese salad; just don't miss the meat dishes, from tender shish kabobs of beef to smoky grilled chicken served with tasty, couscous-like bulgur wheat.
