Just For Kicks Dance Academy

I started dancing with them when they first opened i was 6. It was fun and i enjoyed it, it was all about having fun not about winning. I continued to dance with them till i was 14 then moved on to the cincinnati ballet and ccm at uc. The only reason why Melissa the owner sold the studio was because she hired her childhood best friend Meredith Werdern to help her teach students. And Meredith Werden is the one who ruined the acadamey of fun. I would walk out of there crying because of her. I competed with them for 5 years and because of her i wasn't allowed, even though my solo was getting gold. MEREDITH is the one who ruined the place not Melissa. Melissa is now the coach of the MND Dance team and a teacher at Starz dance acadamey, so if you want a good teacher go to starz. And all the funding problems was from MEREDITH. thought i would clear the air. more

I am the mother of two young girls who are very interested in dance. So I signed them up to dance at this particular dance studio and have regretted it ever since. First off halfway through the year the teacher ran out of funds to keep the studio open ( that shows you how large of a success she was) so the classes moved to a room in Lifetime Fitness. I chose the studio because it was close and convenient and now I had to commute all the way across town to take my daughters to dance. Another flaw in the studio is that the instructor would just not show up to classes and not even tell anyone. We ended up having to do makeup classes and it was such a hassel. In addition to all this nonsense the dances being taught to the girls were NONSENSE! Now I'm not professional dancer but seeing that my daughter is six I feel that she should be doing a little more than a couple steps and then skipping in a circle, especially for the money I pay for them to dance. The owner is the only instructor. She will not show up for class and doesn't let you know class is canceled. The costumes and shoes are never ordered on time or even fit properly. She also does not actually teach them technique. It is the worst run studio around here. Avoid it at all costs. Pros: None Cons: Where do I begin? more

I have been going to Just For Kicks since I was four and I love it there. I went to other dance studios and it wasnt the same. I can talk to the owner about anything and I have so much fun in class. Even though there arent many teen age classes there it is still fun to be doing something. I used to do competeion and that was what the whole school used to be about. It is now 10 times better that they left. You should go there no matter the age of your child. It is so much FUN! Pros: Family atmosphere Cons: there are none more

This is a great dance studio if you have younger ones and want your child to have a great, fun dance experience. There is a large window you can view you child through. There are also a lot of toys for younger siblings to play with and freedom to run around. Though there have been some negatives posted about the owner, she is a great instructor and is great with the kids. My only dislikes are the fact that the recital isn't until June, which is annoying because it is in the middle of June, which prevents vacations, and you still have to pay for a full month of classes even though they usually only have one class. Also, the instructors perform on stage at the recital with the kids, and most parents find it very distracting and unnecessary. more

There aren't many studios that focus mostly on the preschool/kindergarten age group and take it seriously. I have found that Just For Kicks is the place to go. The classes are high energy and fun. Not too many rules. It is a relaxed family atmosphere that we just love. All the little girls seem to be having such a great time dancing around the room and looking at themselves in the mirror. It is fun to watch them through the window. I am so glad I found this studio for my daughters and can't wait until the next show. We love Just For Kicks. We love Miss Ann. My daughter danced here last year I thought I would post a review. I was at the show and everyone had an adorable costume and they were so excited to be on stage. The class my daughter was in was fun and she learned a lot. The owner herself taught it and I couldn't have been more pleased. It was creative and moved along at a pace that kept the girls interested. I could watch every week through the window and they were having a blast. The building is old and could use some love. I would agree that a facelift would be nice, but that doesn't really affect my opinion of the quality of class my child had. I have been a parent of a dancer for 3 years and have researched every dance studio in the mason area. I can honestly say that my child's experience here was the absolute worst in comparison. The teacher was wonderful, even though she was young. The owner was the real problem. She lied consistently to all the parents, never taking responsibility when there was a problem, like my child's costume never coming in, billing errors, or lack of effective communication. The worst part was when I found out she had a picture of my child on her facebook page. An adult business owner should not have a facebook page and should definitely not post pictures of other's peoples children without their permission. I am the owner of Just For Kicks. I have read the above review and am heartbroken that one of my wonderful students is so distraught over my decision to eliminate competitive dance from the studio that this was the result. I announced that business decision shortly before this review was written. The girls were, as I anticipated, quite sad. I realize in life that when we are dissappointed by something we can't control it is natural to lash out. I feel so terrible that this child loved Just For Kicks and the teams there so much that she is this upset and felt the need to lash out at me personally. Just For Kicks is a family oriented conservative dance studio. Please feel free to call or email and ask for the names and numbers of customers who are more than satisfied with the programs there. i have been dancing at this place for about four years,, the first 2 years the studio was owned by a 27 year old dancer that really owned it for the love of dance,, then she sold this studio to a psycho whor* 40 some year old lady that turned all of our lives into a living hell,, she thinks she is still 17 which let me tell you SHE IS NOTT! she thinks she is cool but really is cheating whor* wife that in is need of some good time in a church.
