Community Services Field Supervisor 6/6/2012

Judy was AWESOME!!!! I work for City government and had tested for the supervisor position 4 other times. Each time I would pass the written exam with flying colors. The oral board was another matter. I would get to the interview and freeze up, freak out, and thus, score poorly: It was as if the aliens from Men In Black came with me and sucked everything I knew out of my brain! After only one session with Judy she helped me to know what to say and how to say it. I practiced what she taught me over and over again. \r \r The end result was I came out number 1 on the list and was given the promotion. It was well worth the money and the 100 mile plus trip each way. I highly recommend her!\r \r Thank you Judy! more

Outstanding preparation for an interview 5/18/2012

While attending a law enforcement leadership seminar, I had the good fortune of hearing Judy present information relative to oral presentations. Not only was the information outstanding, but she also included practical application in class. At the time, my son was doing entrance interviews for several medical schools and he had just finished his first one. He wasn't feeling good about how he did even though we had done some home-style preparation. We decided to seek professional help from Judy for the other upcoming interviews. One thorough session from Judy and he was much more prepared and confident. The end result, he got acceptance letters from several schools and is now finishing medical school. Coincidentally, he didn't get an acceptance letter from the first school where he interviewed! Call it luck or call it ""professional preparation!"" Several years later, I was interviewing for a supervisory position in an elite unit for our Department. The competition was very strong and the interview was critical. Remembering my son's success, I recontacted Judy. One thorough session for me and I was definitely more prepared. The end result, I got the position. Again, call it luck or call it ""professional preparation."" If it's important, get professional help! Thanks Judy more

Very Helpful 11/20/2011

Judy was very straightforward, honest, and insightful with me during the two sessions I took with her. I unsuccessfully attempted to earn a promotion with my employer on several previous occassions. A promotion is based on scored inside and outside interview panels. My interview skills wer subpar and I was told by my employer that I did needed to improve in this area. Judy gave me the confidence and tools I needed for a successful interview. I scored very high on this promotional process and will likely earn a promotion. Thanks for your help Judy. more

She helped me get the job I really wanted! 4/18/2011

I graduated from San Diego State University with a B.S. in Finance in 2008 and was unable to secure an entry-level job in Finance despite shining credentials, a year and a half of looking, and applying to hundreds of jobs posted online. I even reworked my résumé several times on my own before hiring a professional résumé writer for $460! Still, I only received two calls and wasn’t successful in securing either position. Then in December 2010, my employer announced that they were closing our district office and would be providing outplacement services. They authorized six, one-hour sessions to see Judy Kaplan Baron, Ph. D., a certified career counselor. Judy helped me rework my résumé and gave me pointers on writing an effective cover letter. When she was satisfied with our improvements, she told me to start applying for jobs. In less than a week, I received three calls for interviews. This was more action than I received on my previous résumé written by a so-called résumé expert and in less time. I went on the interviews and felt I did terrible. At my next session, Judy gave me a practical solution for answering tough interview questions as well as answering hypothetical questions. She also wrote an effective introduction and conclusion that I could use for my interviews and told me to go on as many interviews as I could for practice. The following week I gained a phone interview with a Fortune 500 company. Using Judy’s interviewing method, I did very well and was invited to a half day of on-site interviews. I was extremely nervous, but used Judy’s interviewing approach to prepare the night before. I researched the company thoroughly, came up with answers to the fifteen most common interview questions, wrote down questions to ask, and reviewed my finance text book. Judy’s advice and my hard work paid off. I finally got my first financial analyst job, making more money than I anticipated at a great company and beating out hundreds of applicants all vying for a highly competitive position. Judy was absolutely instrumental in making it happen. With Judy’s help, you will not just get a job, but the job you really want. She guided me throughout the whole process by helping me believe in my skills and really sell myself. Her encouraging words kept me focused and determined. I never dreamed I would go from failed job hunts and facing layoff to finally landing a great position in the field I love all within three months. Her services are an investment that has brought great returns for me (my salary will increase by 40% to potentially 61% if my bonus is included). I will turn to Judy for her services at every critical juncture in my career as I continue to climb the corporate ladder. more

WONDERFUL!!!!! 8/25/2010

Just when I had about given up hope and could not see any light at the end of the tunnel I found you. You gave me solutions when I could not seem to find any. You didn't beat around the bush were straight and honest with me and its exactly what I needed. Using your own life experiences showed me you were a real person not just a typical therapist going through the motions. You taught me to pull on my inner strength and so I was able to transfer my daughter schools, say no without guilt and release some of the resentments I carried for my ex husband! Because of your honesty in dealing with me I was able to believe when you told me I did the right thing. Thank you for all you did to pull me out of the darkness.\r \r more

I got the job! 5/3/2010

Judy helped me to focus on what was really important concerning my career. She taught me interview skills that gave me confidence going into an interview, and I was offered a position. The interview skills session was thorough, systematic and specific. I practiced what Judy taught me and it really made a difference. Thank you, Judy! Pros: Professional, insightful, realistic, good listener more

The Cornerstone of my Success! 12/2/2009

""There have been three very critical times during my 25 year career when I needed the assistance of a professional career counselor. Fortunately for me, I was introduced to Judy Kaplan Baron very early in my career and each and every time I've needed her it was critical and she's delivered!\r \r The best analogy I can use to describe this process is that having Judy in your career corner is like having an auto mechanic on retainer:\r \r When your car is running rough... you take it to your mechanic. The mechanic diagnoses the issue and adjusts the idle so that your car runs smoothly as you drive down the road. \r \r However, the major difference being that when your career is running roughly...Judy doesn't just adjust your ""career idle"" by herself. Instead, she partners with clients, empowering them to diagnose the problems,\r and figure out what the critical issues are. She then oversees the steps that clients need to take to be successful professionally, ensuring that careers runs smoothly for years to come.\r \r Working with Judy was an ""investment in myself"" and a significant factor in my professional success over the last 25 years!"" \r more

she is excellent 7/15/2009

Dear Judy, I just wanted to take the time to thank you and let you know how much I appreciated your services. I was a bit skeptical as how I was going to open up to a complete stranger but your sincerity made it easy. Your expertise really helped me in and out of work. I was originally going to see you for our Employee Assistant Program but I also came out of it with better skills for interviewing. I would also like to thank you for how you handled the situation regarding my medical records. Your professionalism and mannerism were more than I could have asked for. You are greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Armida Medina more

Career Couseling 6/7/2009

Many thanks to Judy for help with my resume, CV, and work-place bullies. I called her because I was in such at rut with my career. Even though I had finished my doctorate, which was the completion of a lifetime dream, I couldn’t manage to move forward with my career. Her expert advice on writing my resume and CV has brought me to a new place – that of renewed confidence and the knowledge that my career can take off. As for the work-place bullies, Judy's wisdom on handling them gave me just the support I needed to power forward with my own goals. They’ll have to find someone else to pick on!\r \r more

Judy Kaplan Baron encourages me to be my best 11/11/2008

\r In all my experience with Judy Kaplan Baron, I have found her accurate, honest and \r objective. She is professional, yet friendly. An authority without \r being an ""authority figure"". I have come to trust her skills and opinions, \r both in my career and marriage.\r \r I depend on Judy to guide me through the hard times that can happen in a committed relationship. She listens equally to my husband and me, and shows no bias. She assigns homework. I am able to measure my level of commitment based on how much homework \r I do. \r \r Judy challenges and questions. She helps me visualize my dreams and \r needs, encourages me to work for my ""brass ring"". She encourages me to be my best--it is hard work but its incredibly worthwhile. My thoughts and dreams are on a higher plane thanks to Judy Kaplan Baron's counsel.\r \r My husband trusts her as a counselor. In her relationship counseling, he understands the factual information she provides. He doesn't work well with ""how do you feel"" type questions, and she realizes that. And when he understands, he succeeds.\r \r Judy, thank you for being such a down to earth, results oriented, \r dependable, career and MFCC guide. I am a better person because of you. more

She helped me focus and answered all my questions. 9/19/2008

There was a lot more to the career counseling process than I thought. I am grateful that I didn't quit after the first session. I think I wanted everything to be resolved in one hour, but that obviously didn't happen. Within 2-3 appointments, she got me on track and kept me moving in the right direction. She's very personable and professional. What's most important is that she helped me focus on what I really wanted and then coached me and answered all my questions to help me get there. If you need help getting from where you are to where you want to be, I'd recommend you check her out. Pros: helped me focus, stay organized and answered all my questions more

If you want to ace an interview, I highly recommend her. 9/4/2008

I went to Judy Kaplan Baron specifically to learn to interview better. I am sure her guidance made all the difference in how I came across. (I knew I needed help but I had no idea I was so bad!) She helped me reduce my nervousness. I now know what to expect and am much calmer. She helped me anticipate questions which were likely to be asked and she was right on! She gave me an easy way to think about answering questions too. It was clear from the beginning that her techniques were superior to anything I'd done previously. The real prize is that I got the job I wanted. There's no question in my mind that the techniques she taught me made the difference. Pros: Easy to talk to, understanding, really talented at interviewing and teaching others how to do it more

She's got a reputation as the best career counselor in San Diego and she deserves it! 8/3/2008

I was referred to Judy by a friend who said she helped him turn his life around. Personally, I was beyond frustrated with my career. I was skeptical but willing to give it a try. Boy, am I glad I did! Judy helped me figure out what I really wanted, suggested a great new direction and was instrumental in helping me get there. She is truly amazing. She was there for me when I needed her and her guidance was invaluable. Since then, she's been a great resource for me whenever issues come up and I need/ want her opinion or advice. I've used her to help resolve on-the-job and personal issues as well. She's a great combination of caree counselor, coach, and therapist. She's been a great find and I hope she never retires! Without hesitation, I highly recommend her.\r \r more
