Very quick delivery and very good food! The fruit freezes and boba are delicious as always and my sesame chicken was still crispy when it got here! Will definitely order again

Efficient but not "warm and fuzzy" 5/20/2006

I just found it to be pretty good here, not great. I think the drink menu is the most impressive. Never in my life have I seen such a huge selection of cold, frozen or hot beverages, fruit drinks, teas, etc. The lunch menu is something I would recommend, you get a nice amount for about $6. The shrimp was very good, but the egg rolls were just fair. My biggest complaint would be the noise level. Between the constant buzz of blenders, the ear bleed blabbing of the patrons and the music, I felt like I had been to a Pearl Jame concert! (But it was not nearly as much fun) The wait staff was efficient but not overly friendly, and they could really use some warmth and charm if you ask me. more

Joy Yee's Restaurant 4/14/2006

Joy Yee’s restaurant in Evanston, Illinois is superb! They have fantastic food and the bubble tea is to die for. The atmosphere is very friendly and lively and the food is reasonably priced. I wouldn’t call it authentic Asian food, but Asian food with an American twist. Definitely the best time to go is during lunch since their lunch specials are awesome. more

Joy Yee's 3/26/2006

First off I love the location this place is at. I really enjoy visiting Evanston and am here quite often. I have been to Joy Yee's a couple of time. The food is very fresh and they give large portions for a reasonable price. Another reason to come here is for the frozen fruit drinks. I have never seen a place offer so many healthy and delicious frozen drinks. They even have their own drink menu. It can get crowded here and parking can be a challenge, so visit at off hours if that's a hassle for you. more

food is good but the atmosphere... 9/29/2005

The portions at Joy Yee's are HUGE and the lunch special is a really good deal. However the tables are really crammed into the restaurant and it can get loud in there. Also I find that I always smell like the food when I leave - I mean, my clothes, my hair, everything. They have lots of fun frozen drinks and bubble tea which is kind of unique in this area. They also offer take out. more

Joy Yee's Noodles 9/14/2005

Joy Yee's Noodles, which first store actually originated in Chicago's Chinatown, had been growing extremely popular. I am reviewing about their Evanston location. The environment sucks. One of their big money-making item is their smoothies which causes loud noises. Also, I dislike the seating arrangements in there. I prefer space from other parties while eating, and there's not much room that allows this. I do, however, like the contemporary design of what they use to bring the food out. CUTE! The food is decent. It's not bad, but there are a couple of dishes that stands out. The best that I've tried there are their korean bbq ribs and their thai pad wai soon noodles. The rest are just "average". One thing that you must order when you go there are their beverages, with or without tapiocas. It's just one of the things you must do before going to the death bed. more

For the hungry (wo)man 8/15/2005

Joy Yee's gives the best and most food for the least amount of dollars. Their food is enough to last the average person two meals, and while you may leave the restaurant reeking of that particular Joy Yee's smell, washing your clothes once is worth a tasty meal (two meals actually) that leaves your wallet with bills to spare. They have a huuuuge selection of bubble tea on their drinks menu, and as an added bonus, they provide gigantic, illustrated menus and even have artificial food displays in their store window to stimulate those taste buds while you wait. more

I LOVE THIS PLACE ! ! ! 8/12/2005

It all started with my first ever FREEZE with tapioca balls-I got the strawberry freeze. It has little balls of tapioca on the bottom. They give you a big straw, and you suck up the Strawberry Freeze along with the tapioca balls which have the texture of gummy bears. Very fun. The food is excellent as well. They have pictures in the extensive menu, so you can choose what you get just from the pics. About $10/plate, but everyone will probably leave with leftovers-I left with over half. more

very good chinese food 8/10/2005

This is by far the best Chinese food place I have been to in Evanston. I am from an Asian country, and I actually think the food here is comparable to that at home. Portions are very good, for me i can finish one in a meal, but for a lot of people they have to pack everythign home. Price is a little bit expensive, but it is worth the money because of the big portion and good taste! more

Chinese/Korean Cuisine Done Well 8/8/2005

Joy Yee’s serves authentic Korean cuisine, although many dishes are your typical Chinese food. The food is pretty good, well priced, and the servings are simply huge. The atmosphere of the restaurant is good, although the drawback is that you may have to wait a while to be seated as the place is always busy. Their signature item is a variety of tapioca smoothies, which are simply to die for. more

Pretty good, but hard to get in 8/8/2005

Joy Yee's has now become almost like "THE" place to hang out. Everytime i go, I end up bumping into old college friends. The food is really good, with alot of flavor. And the dishes are definitely unique to look at! However, some people I've talked to say the food is not authentic enough, which I have to somewhat agree. To cater to a broader audience, some of the "authentic" asian cuisines are pretty Americanized. However, the fruit drinks are the best around. Even though they raised the price recently of most of their tapioca drinks from $3 to $3.65, it's still worth it. My fav: Mango Freeze with Tapioca. Getting a table inside the restaurant is the hardest part. i usually hate waiting 1+ hrs for a table, so end up eating at another restaurant and getting a drink to-go afterwards. more

Great place to go for lunch 8/8/2005

Joy Yee's is one of my favorite places to go for lunch when in the mood for some spicy Chinese food. They have very cheap lunch combinations (around $5-6) that usually consist of rice, spring roll, and the main entree. There is plenty to choose from on the menu, so everyone can be sure to find something they like. There is an extensive list of milkshakes and fruit drinks to choose from as well. While it's the perfect place for lunch, be warned as it gets very crowded with all the local workers on their lunch breaks. more

Not bad at all 8/4/2005

Joy Yee's is not bad for a pan-Asian restaurant. You could definitely do worse in Evanston by going to LuLu's. They have huge portions here, and their drink menu is as big is their food menu. The atmosphere is pretty trendy, and you'll almost always find the place packed with Northwestern students. The ultimate test: I brought my parents to eat here (They're Asian immigrants), and they thought the food was decent, even better than the food at the Argyle Chinatown. Now that's good. more

Joy Yee's serves up wonderful noodle dishes and freezes 6/27/2005

Joy Yee's is a bustling noodle restaurant in the heart of Evanston. It always crowded with the college/graduates student crowd with a few families thrown in the mix. The food is really well prepared, flavorful, and generously portioned. You could easily order one dish and split it. While I go for the food, I keep coming back for the freezes and fresh drinks they make. The mango freeze is out of this world. Make sure you order it with Tapioca. Joy Yee's is worth the trip if you're coming from the city or another north side suburb. more

BoBa Tea 6/26/2005

This is a good restaurant with a variety of asian food. They have chinese, korean, thai, japanese, viet and probably other types. Their menu is extensive and have a lot to offer. I love their Thai Basil Chow Funn or their Pineapple fried rice. Their boba tea is wonderful as well. more
