Great food; perfect ambiance; easy access location; interestingly different 3/12/2007

While they're not short on dime-a-dozen chain restaurants, York and Lancaster have just a small handful of respectable, unique, ""night out"" eateries. This is definitely one of them. Josephine's is a bit off the beaten track, (about ten minutes from route 30) but well worth the effort. The restaurant is an old house that has been refurbished beautifully. It maintains the charm and feel of a bygone era edifice, but fortunately lacks the dank, dirty feeling so many poorly restored buildings have. The dining area is small, but the tables are sufficiently spaced to allow for a measure of privacy. The low lighting accents the dark woods well, and the country decore is simple without going over the top. Josephine's menu is subject to frequent change, but always has a good selection of meats and vegetables that will probably allow everyone to find something to their liking. I've been several times and neither I nor my companions have had anything that wasn't well-above average to, most often, outstanding. Generally, there are a few french favorites and some more inventive concoctions. The dessert selection has been very good, and the quality is outstanding. Perhaps the best thing about Josephine's is the price. For a relatively high-end meal, you can expect to spend only a few more dollars than you would for a run of the mill chain steakhouse. For busy times or weekends, get a reservation. I think this is one of the best four or five restaurants I've tried in the York/Lancaster area. Pros: Delicious food, reasonable price, not a boring chain Cons: Accessibility more
