Good Food, Dishonest Jose 3/27/2010

I recently went to Jose's for a girlffriends birthday dinner. it was a Wed night and the 5 of us were the only people in the restaurant, which was fine. Jose waited on us and seemed very nice. A little talkative and a little demanding about what we order and how to eat it, but overall fine. We had brought a brand new bottle of good tequila to have margarita's made. The food and maragarita's came, and everything was really good. We each had one margarita, and then three of us asked for 1 more strawberry margarita. No one was even remotely buzzed. When the bill came, Jose brought out boxes for leftovers, as well as the leftover tequila from our bottle. There was not even a shot left in the entire bottle! I'm sorry, but there is no way 5 small girls can drink an entire bottle of tequila and walk away without even a buzz. It kind of ruined the whole experience to think that the owner was sitting in back stealing from his customers. It doesn't matter that it was just alcohol, it's the principle. I don't think any of us will ever go back. There are plenty of other good Mexican restaurants in the city where the owners are honest. If you do go, ask that Jose leave your tequila on the table and poor in front of you. Pros: decent Mexican Cons: Dishonest owner more

Fine Mexican in E. Village 7/10/2009

I have been eating at Jose's restaurant for 2yrs now and have had everything on their menu from the tasty fish tacos to their tender Zamora skirt steak. Both of which I recomend highly!! If you go there be sure to bring your own beer or whatever you like they are byob, but plan on coming berfore 11pm. They are not to be confussed with the fast food open late night spots on ashland. However sometimes I wish they would stay open late on Friday's and Saturday's, god knows my weekend mornings would be better for it!\r \r Pros: Steak, chicken, pork, prices, byob & both Jose's more

awesome spot for Mexican and BYOB 7/10/2009

Well, it doesn't hurt that this place is stumbling distance from my house, but Jose's serves up some excellent Mexican food. And Jose himself is a great guy!!\r \r You can get the standards prepared perfectly, or you can venture into something a little different. I tried a seafood dish last night and was pleasantly surprised.\r \r Now that he's replaced the old Italian restaurant signs with signs that actually let you know it's a Mexican restaurant, hopefully even more people will discover Jose's. He's also beefed up the staff a bit and has started serving brunch on weekends -- looking forward to trying it.\r \r Oh, and it's BYOB! And don't limit yourself to beer and wine -- Jose makes a great margarita Pros: Food, prices, byob,Jose more
