WE NEED HELP FINDING A WAITER'S NAME 10/2/2011

okay, so the food was INCREDIBLE and i thought the service was spectacular. now.. we have a problem! okay, so there was an extremely, i mean EXTREMLEY attractive waiter. i need to set my daughter up with him. he was very tall, with dirty blond hair, and large biceps. he had short, spiked-ish hair. I would say he was at least 6 foot. he was young, probably in his early 20's. Please help us find his name. if it is needed, he was working on the night of saturday october 1. Around 6:00 pm. more

If you're in NYC you gotta go 6/19/2011

We took our two teenage daughters to NYC for their first time. Having been in the city several times myself, my only request was that I get some real NY pizza. We arrived at John's Pizzeria at 11:20 A.M. on saturday and there was already a short line outside the door. At 11:30 the doors were unlocked and our party of seven was quickly seated. Our first impression was how large and attractive the interior was. Being on the site of a deconsecrated church the ceiling was very high and covered with stained glass. The wall behind our table was decorated with a large mural depicting scenes of the city. The young people in our group said ""this place is cool"". We ordered drinks, a large pizza with fresh basil, a spinach salad and a vegetarian whole grain pasta dish. As we waited for the food we noticed that all available tables had filled up. Our meal arrived promptly and all conversation ceased as we dug in. Soon it became obvious that we needed more pizza so we ordered another large, same as the first. The simple tomatoe, cheese and basil pizza was delicious and pleased everyones taste. The second pie arrived quicker than I expected and was also quickly gone. The thin crust pizza satisfied our hunger without leaving us too bloated to face a marathon afternoon of walking midtown Manhattan. The pasta and salad were also fresh and delicious with unique, tasty ingredients. Our server was prompt, friendly and attentive, especially considering the very busy lunch rush. We felt the prices were very reasonable for all that we got ($18 per pie). My only dissapointment was that they didn't have a large t-shirt for me to buy so I got a ball cap to take back to Ohio. So now when people see the hat and ask about John's Pizzeria I tell them ""if you're in NYC you gotta go."" more

This place has great pizza, always great. The vibe can be noisey and crazy, not in a good way, but I keep coming back for the pizza. SO GOOD more

Real Pizza 3/22/2010

I've been eating John's pizza for years and I love this place. It is pricey, but in my opinion, I don't think there is a better place for pizza anywhere in NY. Pros: Great pizza Cons: none so far more

Best Pizza in NYC 2/8/2010

Eat this Pizza. Sausage is homemade and out of this world. Pricey, but well worth it. Pros: Amazing Pizza, Great Salad, Good Bread Cons: The wait sometimes is crazy. more

AMAZING!! 1/8/2010

So my review might be a little biased b/c we ate with the owners cousin`and we were there for a private party (we visited twice), but it was Amazing! The everything was fantastic! They have a variety on their menu: wings, pizza, salads, sandwiches/paninis, salad. The place was Very crowded, by the time we left the line was down the street, so the servers were busy, but as a server I understood and I enjoyed the company I was with so I didn't mind. The interior is beautifully decorated, it is an old cathedral. Great location, great food, great atmosphere. I want to go back to New York just to go back there. Definitely recommend this place! Pros: Amazing Pizza Cons: Very busy more

Terrible Pizza & Over Priced...Simply Not Good! 11/10/2009

Pizza was not good at all! Cons: Pizza was Terrible, Seriously! Try Dominoes instead more

Pizza at the Bar 10/25/2009

My wife and I come to New York a few times a year to get our pizza fix and check out a few comedy shows. Things were a little busy in the restaurant so we sat at the bar and had a lot of fun. We ended up staying for two hours! We're going back tomorrow to bring a pizza home with us. Pros: Great Pizza, Fun bar Cons: You'll go off your diet! more

Top 5 Worst Post-Theater Experience 10/25/2009

If you want to go to a place where the first member of the staff you encounter is extremely rude and where the ""rules"" are so inflexible you cannot have people join you later in a post-theater flexible way, this is your place. I will never go here again and would never recommend it to anyone. A concierge at the Marriott on the East Side recommended it to us and was shocked by our experience. She says she will also discontinue recommending it. Owner's should review their personnel and anti-customer ""policies"" (if in fact they are really policies and not just the ill-temper of some disgruntled staff). I shudder to think what table service is like if this is what meets you at the entrance. I grew up in the restaurant business so know a little of what I speak. If I owned this place and came in anonymously and observed what went on (not just to us but people ahead of us), a top-to-bottom review of people and policies would begin immediately. Too many great places nearby to waste my money on this kind of operation. Pros: None, Cons: Rude inflexible staff are the first--and only--thing you see more

Poor Service 9/17/2009

We were in town for the open and stayed a few extra days and had been told we must go to John's. The staff seemed to have a very good time standing at there stations joking and high five but seemed to forget about their tables. The waiter took our order and that was the last time we seen him until my husband finally flagged him down for additional drinks. Obviously the problem is in poor management. The pizza was great but don't expect much in service...maybe take-out would be best. Pros: Pizza Excellent Cons: Very Poor Service more

Best Pizza 4/20/2009

Visited John's many times on visits to NY and the pizza is still excellent. This trip, we visited twice and both times the service at the table was not as we remembered but would still go back again. The bar staff are great and keep up with the pressure with a smile when busy. Pros: Pizza Cons: Service more

Great Bar! 1/28/2009

I was going to a Saturday night movie in Times Square and my friend recommended going to Johns. I knew of the place in the village and was pleasantly surprised when we came in because the place is huge. We didn't really have time to get dinner (I was late) so we decided to have a drink and a snack at the bar. The bartender was so nice and helpful (and he looked like a husky Tom Ford!). He recommended a few things that were quick and we ended up getting an order of bruschetta. It was one of those nights where everything was perfect. Great, quick food, friendly service (and cute!). We will definitely be back. Pros: Kick a**s Bartender! Awesome food! Nice bar! more

Very Poor Service 1/25/2009

Very poor service - inexcusable! more

WORST ATTITUDE EVER - FOOD MEDIOCRE 1/17/2009

It was the coldest winter day and I had company from the West Coast who were not used to this cold. Pros: Great area for Tourists Cons: If you are not a tourist - find another place to go. more

soggy pizza 1/6/2009

I read about ""Johns Pizza on line and decided to try it...I went 2 different times and found the pizza to be soggy...being a cook, I realized what was being done is they would cook the pizza with the sauce half way...then when an order came in...they then added the toppings...the pizza both times was soggy and the second time was not even that warm....BIG DISAPPOINTMENT...its a matter of getting a few good reviews then slacking off on making a good product. like I said BIG BIG BIG disappointment more

Terrible Staff 12/21/2008

The pizza tastes like any other. It's not worth deal ing with snobby hostesses and rude waiters. Sure, it may be New York, but I'm not paying for both overpriced food AND poor service! Our waiter came up and the first thing he said was ""You ready?"" Our pitcher of iced tea was filled to the top with ice, so we all got just half a glass of iced tea. And boy was it a struggle to get them to bring us glasses of water--which they never refilled. Worst thing of all, the people to our left were seated at least 15 minutes after us, and they got their pizza before we did. Never going back. The one on Bleeker Street was much better. Pros: modern venue Cons: poor service, overpriced more

Saw it on TV, pricey but unique and tasty 11/24/2008

I saw this place on some TV show about unique spots around the country. Biggest pizzeria in the world. I stumbled upon it by accident. I saw the Zagat rated sticker in the window and decided to give it a try, then while waiting in the front, realized this was the place I saw on TV way back. The wait wasn't too bad despite the dining room being packed. Once seated it probably took 30 - 40 minutes to get our food, which I guess isn't too bad considering there were well over 100 people in there. I got a regular pie with pepperoni and green peppers and the pie came out kind of flat, though large. The pizza had a very unique taste to it, robust and despite being starving, it had such a rich flavor I took my time and savored each bite. It may not be your favorite pizza but it's definitely worth a try, and seating should definitely not be a problem. Pros: Interesting building, unique taste, neat experience Cons: a littly pricey and noisy, but it comes with the territory more
