It?s sad that I have to write this. This used to be one of my favorite places to get pastrami. However I think they have forgotten how to make it and how to be friendly to their c...

$$$$$$ 5/18/2008

over $14 for a pastrami and fries. I've had way better pastrami at lots of other locations not worth it more

Awsom pastromi sandwhich 5/15/2008

I am from Culver City and now in live in Ohio........and I miss my sandwhiches from Johnnies!!!!!! I wish they would ship! Cons: They wont ship to another state UPS or overnight shipment! :( soo sad!!! more

Best, juice-drippin' pastrami around 4/7/2008

We grew up in Culver City & now live in WA State... Last time in CA we went out of our way by 50 miles to get a Johnnies Pastrami! My husband went there all the time as a kid & I had vague memories of a delicious pastrami sandwich & good 50's music. The weekend of our H.S. reunion (1954,55) we had to stop early afternoon & get a Johnnies and ohmy! was it ever worth the time! We had friends with us & we all savored our sandwiches & the delicious pickles! There is no place that we have ever been that serves the delicious, juice-dripping, salty, not good for you sandwich like Johnnies!! Have plenty of napkins ready, & be ready to be waddling-full when you are done. Don't plan any meals after this one, for sure! Listening to 50's music made us want to have a street-dance, & eating a johnnies pastrami made us wish they would open one here in WA!! You'll want to pack one for home when you're through!! Next time we're bringing along a small ice-chest & packing a few to bring home for our family to try!! Maybe even a large ice-chest! Next time you're in the area, be sure to grab a Johnnies on the way to the Marina! If the local yuppies can't handle the grease, drippings, salt, great pickles, stay away! We know plenty of ""real"" people that love the mess & the joy of eating at Johnnies Pastrami!! more

Just like 1977 all over again ! 3/28/2008

Been a customer for over forty years----the only change in that time, is that now THEY HAVE AN ATM in the parking lot. But still, only take cash. Best Pastrami period. Sit on the patio and have Sandy serve you a basket of hot, crisp french fries. Steaming Pastrami, Big John Double Cheeseburger---and the best pickles around. Pros: Open late-smoke outside on patio OK Cons: Big portions and most assuredly not health food ! more

Johnnies serves everyone! To say anything else is ridiculous. 3/20/2008

I have been going to Johnnies for many years and the rule has always been that if you phone in a TO GO order, it is TO GO. This has nothing to do with race, religion or sexual preference. Why take a table from a dine-in patron that has to wait for an open table and be served by a waitress? The same waitress that would have earned a nice tip on a $72 order. Feel safe and secure. You can go to Johnnies and have a great pastrami, chili cheese fries, or any of the other great menu items. Pros: Pastrami good enough to crave. Nice seating outside by the firepit. Cons: Kinda on the expensive side. more

Johnnie's is the Best in L.A.! 1/3/2008

LOL! The Hat (Valley Blvd in Alhambra) serves minced meat for Pastrami...it's disgusting. I was shocked, especially for an establishment thats been in the business for such a long time...also their service is poor. Pros: TONS OF FOOD Cons: DON'T GO FOR THE AMBIENCE-TOGO more

Not all that....pretty pricey 12/30/2007

I had heard this was the best pastrami in town so I finally decided to try it. On my first and probably my last visit, I learned that A. The pastrami sandwich was good but not great B. The Hat is the best Pastrami sandwich in LA and C. Way tooo expensive. I mean the portions are big but I'm about quality over quantity. Pros: Old Dinner Vibe...big portions Cons: Too expensive for the quality of the food. more

Awesome expriance 12/29/2007

Awesome pastrami!!!!!! The choice of inside dinning or outdoor patio dinning with fire pits!!!!!!! Old fashion Jukeboxes with songs from the 1940's to the 1980's!!!!! Great friendly service!!!!!! Bring a friend split a pastrami (they will bring it you in two separate baskets at NO extra charge where else do you find that in LA? ) and share some chilli cheese fries or regular fries or onion rings. Friendly, awesome waitresses!!!! I will be back!!! Pros: FOOD, SERVICE, Not a Chain, SEAT Yourself menus are on the table Cons: CASH ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!! Not really a place for true vegaterians unless you want a cold chesse sandwhich. more

About our Johnnies experience today! 12/14/2007

I had the worst experience in my life concerning restaurants today at Johnnies Pastrami. A group of us, 4 Latinos and 2 African Americans went to have lunch at Johnnies and enjoy there famous pastramies. We were really excited and wanting to get the full experience, we ordered our food via telephone so when we got there, it would be ready. When we arrived, the food was indeed ready. We were like starving lions who had not eaten in weeks. Pros: HA HA HA Cons: Not as juicy -- Fries were RE FRIED more

Avoid on Friday near 2:00 p.m. 11/2/2007

Johnnie's Pastrami was quite disappointing upon my last visit. Enter the joint to sit down was told get up right away only for two or more. Another person entered and was served right away at the booth being one. I did not want to throw out the race card but it is what it is. The mananger gave very little apology, Johnnie's has lost a customer and would never recommend this place. This is not the only place in town for good Pastrami. They need to train their waitress to be more friendly which they are down right rude ""ALL"". more

Great Pastrami 10/19/2007

I have been going here for over 50 years, my dad used to take me there. I moved out of the area and when I am near by I have to stop there. I have had Pastrami other places, like The Hat, and this is better. more

Any Time 8/17/2007

any one whos had a Pastrami know how good this place is mostpeople know it has been there for ove 50 years so they must be doing somthing right. you can go some where else and pay $7.00 or $8.00 for a Pastrami and its all fat here there is very little. so its a must try. Pros: the Pastrami more

Best Pastrami this side of the Mississippi served up in a great retro landmark!! 5/5/2007

I LOVE this nostalgic landmark. Small restaurant, about 10 tables inside & 12-14 outside with fire pits. Dive place, but the retro charm is one reason I come. Pastrami sandwiches are great! Pickles are also a necessary staple here. Remainder of the menu is mediocre. Prices are a high for most items. Pastrami ($8.95) should be considered a ""French dip style"" since it is served on a delicious french roll. It is shaved & fatty, but very good. Service is okay, waitress have been there for decades and tend not to be too hurried. Pros: Landmark retro with outdoor seating, open late, pastrami sandwiches Cons: Parking can be difficult, cash only, other food items are so, so. more

Best pastrami on the west side 4/18/2007

I've never had pastrami other than this place. except downtown, which is great too. But this place has the best pastrami sandwiches, other food is just OK. One downside is the cash only policy. Prices are average Pros: pastrami, parking Cons: fries, cash only more

I LOVE JOHNNIE'S 2/11/2007

LOVE THIS PLACE, Pros: TASTE, SERVICE,VIBE Cons: NOTTA THING, IF YOU FIND A CON LOOK WITHIN!!! more

Not what I remembered... 11/13/2006

I hadn't been to Johnnie's in over 30 years and was looking forward to the experience on a recent visit to LA-La land. Apparently time had colored my memories, as it was nothing like I remembered. The pastrami was tasteless and fatty. The only thing that is still the same is the size of the sandwiches.....personally, I would rather have quality over quantity. The prices are ridiculous for what you get.... Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Terrible food at ridiculous prices more

The Shizzle!!!! 10/18/2006

I've been twice. once a year ago and just the other day. I had forgotten how delicious this place really is! The pastrami and the fries are the best, bar none. In fact, I'm salivating just thinking about it. Shouldn't be going twice in only a few days but... I'M GOING!!! more

It's expensive and just OK 7/1/2006

I went to Johnnie's by myself and I wanted to sit @ a table to read some papers from work but all the seats had a sign that said reserved for two or more. I'm not sure if that's even appropriate but whatever...the sandwhich was just ok. The dip is tasteless and so is the pastrami. Absolutely nothing to write home about. Pros: Open Late Cons: Dumpy atmosphere, tasteless fatty meat. more

Pastrami Not So Good 4/5/2006

The pastrami sandwich at Johnnie's is huge. But it doesn't taste very good. And it costs nearly $10. For quality pastrami try Victor's Meat and Deli on National Blvd. near the 10 freeway. Or Langer's near McArthur Park. Pros: Ambience, Open Late Cons: Pastrami Tastes Salty, Very Expensive more

Not As Great As Everyone Makes It Out To Be 2/26/2006

I went to Johnnie's to try their French Dip Pastrami, and must say that I was most dissapointedl. I asked for my sandwhich to be double dipped, yet I couldn't taste the au jus. I had to eat the bread by itself to taste it! The pastrami is good, but it's nothing better than what I've had at Fabulous Burgers. The prices are outrageous! I had a pastrami sandwhich, chilli cheese fries, and a choc. shake, the check was $22! The choc shake was the best part, perhaps the only thing that may bring me back. Pros: Great shakes, good location, good ambiance Cons: way over priced, No side of au jus, medicore service more
