Best

I have always been a big fan of Joe's Pizza for the last 20 years. It is a small establishment which moved down the block from it's original location which was right on the corner...

Worst

The pizza was very thin and it was slightly burnt...need I say more? Pros: good location, affordable Cons: crammed space, dingy, not enough seating

Best in NY? Highly Overrated Pizza! 7/20/2011

Today, I went to Joe's for a slice during lunchtime. It has been a while since I've been to Joe's. I remember it having decent pizza, but NOT today. The slice that I got today was severely overcooked to the point that it tasted like a reheated slice when it was just burnt. The slice had LITTLE TO NO CHEESE and the sauce was BLAND. The bottom of the slice was a bit BLACK from being BURNED. I finished half of the slice and then my mouth got burned from the overheated slice! TERRIBLE PIZZA EATING EXPERIENCE @ Joe's (probably the worst ever in my entire 28 year life!!!). I then walked a few blocks over to Ray's Famous Pizza and WOW! What a difference!! Ray's > Joe's. Ray's puts cheese on their slices unlike Joe's and the slices I got from Ray's were FRESH and soft. I WILL NEVER EVER buy any pizza from Joe's!! I recommend Ray's over Joe's. A slice at Ray's & Joe's cost the same ($2.75). Don't waste your money at Joe's!! Go to Ray's or some other Pizzeria, but NOT Joe's! more

Very Good by the Slice 6/20/2011

I have always been a big fan of Joe's Pizza for the last 20 years. It is a small establishment which moved down the block from it's original location which was right on the corner of Bleecker and Carmine Street. It moves a few stores up the block on Carmine pretty close to the original spot! It is standing room only and no seats! The place is always busy and they sell as many slices as they can make, it is that busy! Not many choices to choose from there is fresh mozzarella or the traditional mozzarella or the simple toppings like pepperoni etc. The place is a gold mine and the pizza is traditional NY Style sold primarily by the slice. It is above average and is open real late to attend to the Bar crowd in the village area. If you are ever in greenwich village stop there and grab a slice it is what NY Style Pizza is all about! more

And the winner is...Joe's Pizza! 6/10/2011

Yum, yum and more yum! I’m a New Yorker, I love pizza and this place is one of my favs. Let’s be honest, most pizza shops in NYC surpass most pizza shops in other states but only a few NY pizzerias stand out form all the others. Joe’s Pizza is one of those shops. This place has been around for over 35 years and that alone should tell you something. Their selection is normally pretty basic but that is fine by me. I normally go with the fresh mozzarella slice. The crust is thin, the sauce is flavorful and the cheese is delish. Always make sure you get a hot slice out of the oven, whether it be a new pie or just a slice that getting reheated, it is crucial that you eat the pizza HOT. That is the way it’s meant to be served, and that is the way it tastes best. more

The Best (by the Slice) Pizza in NYC 3/27/2011

I can't pass with out stopping in to get a slice...my advice is to do the same...you will not be disappointed. Ps: there are only 5 or 6 stools, 1 30inch round table and about 20 feet of counter space in the 12 x 12 foot eating area. If you want a whole pie (no individual slices) and standard restaurant seating with beer or wine...go around the corner to John...another pizza spot that's alway's rated one of the best in NYC (for decades)...like Joe's, this place is also almost impossible to disappoint. more

A New York Must! 2/2/2010

If you live in New York City, you have had your share of pizza. I have tried a ton of places and it tastes different everywhere. Every pizza place thinks they have the BEST slice of pizza but the truth is there is quite a bit that goes in to a slice. Joe’s Pizza has an awesome sauce, a great mix of cheeses and a very tasty crust. I first went here a few years ago and had a slice by the time I left I had three. It is nice and light and so tasty but don’t take my word for it. Go! Pros: Pizza almost always just out of the oven! Cons: Standing Room Only! more

Good Slice 7/4/2009

Joe's has been around forever and has always been a good place to get a slice. It's not up there with lombardi's, but It's a better than average slice with no wait. Pros: You can buy a slice instead of a whole pie Cons: sometimes slices are dry and lack enough cheese more

Yes, it's a little overrated, but I find this... 5/11/2009

GREAT PIZZA!!!! 1/20/2009

I Love the Marguerita Pizza!!! My favorite!!!! I visited Famous Joe's Pizza last week and I had a great time. Nice environment.\r \r Pros: Pizza, Service more

best pizza Ive tasted 12/21/2008

was in the village and stopped at numero 28 and joes. Joes was a little bit better, just my opinion because I like a more traditional pie. the sauce was excellent, although numero 28's is a bit better. The cheese and crust spectacular, and only 2.50 a slice. and the slices are huge. Pros: best pizzza in the city more

The best pizza in the village 12/6/2008

I used to live upstairs and eat here at least a few times each week. Oscar, Sam, and the rest of the crew at Joe's are the best Pizza men in New York. Period. Yes... I miss Joe's on the corner too, but the pizza still tastes the same! Pros: late night slices Cons: lines more

EH 8/25/2008

The place was a pigsty and the pizza was mediocre. For being so famous, this place is HIGHLY overrated. Will not be back! more

Great Pie! 7/28/2008

Thin crust, great sauce, just the right amount of cheese. $2.50 a slice $20.00 a pie, cash only. Best pizza in the village. Pros: pizza more

Good Pizza... Still up in the Air about the Best Anywhere thing though... 4/28/2008

Hmmm how do i explain Joe's... First i'll say its Good!! sometimes REALLY GOOD, and thats the thing, sometimes its better then others... Basically, i only ever seen plain, pepperoni, and fresh mozzarella .. those are your basic options... which isn't bad... sometimes the plain slice is amazing... sometimes its average... I'm just speaking honestly... Advice i'll tell you, Don't let them serve you a lukewarm/cold slice!!!! They will try!! When they are feeling themselves and think that they are turning out slices really fast, or are busy, they won't take the time out to heat up your slice... THEY AREN'T GOOD LUKEWARM... tell them put it in the oven or wait for the fresh pie to come out!! PLEASE!! I BEG YOU! Especially on a fresh mozzarella.. Next thing i'll say is, try some other slices other places... they beat most places, but not all the time... Still they make good slices... Pros: pretty good slices of pizza Cons: No seating, not many options, They will try to rush you, They will give you a lukewarm slice if you don't object more

rude rude rude 1/13/2008

I wanted to try this place, called and placed an order and the price was so high, and the man on the phone literally cussed me out when I called to cancel my order. I will not be dining there ever again. more
