Not a true Kosher restaurant 9/18/2009

Friends of mine ordered a cold cut platter and salads to be delivered to a Shiva house. The delivery person from J&L delivered a frozen box of food with a card signed card from the friends. About 30 minutes later, after the recipients had heated up the delivered food, the same deliveryman brings another box with cold cuts and salads and no card. Ten minutes later, the deliveryman returns with another man who enters and asks if we started eating any of the food. Thinking that he was the mourner who ordered the food, he was told that both boxes were opened and we were eating. The second man begins to accuse the people in the house of eating food that was not for them, as if the recipients of a Shiva order would know what was to arrive. When he was told that this is a house in mourning and he needed to leave, he picked up the contents of the second box and removed it from the mourner’s house. About two minutes later the store called to say that the cold cut platter was originally for the Shiva house. However because we had eaten part of the food mistakenly delivered, he was keeping what was ordered for the mourners and wanted any untouched portion of the first box returned or he would need to charge the mourners for the food they had eaten. He was informed that the food was disposed of because we worried about the stores heath practices. I will never order or go here! Pros: expensive Cons: you get what they give you not what was ordered more

Very disappointing! 7/17/2009

I had been a big fan of Jay & Lloyd's, but no more. My 85 yr old mother orderd a turkey platter for dellivery (she was home ill). They sent her dried-out pieces of turkey that they never would have served in the restaurant. When I called to speak with one of the owners to complain, all he said was ""Aw, next time you're in the restaurant we give you some extra meat"". Is he kidding? He should have apologized and offered to send my mother a replacement dinner. We won't be back! Cons: poor service; bad quality meat more

Amazing Jewish Cuisine 1/31/2008

This Jewish deli has a wide variety and good selection of supreme foods. Their potato pancakes and knishes are excellent, and their corned beef and pastrami sandwiches are to die for. The store has a large seating area as well as fairly quick take-out service. The only drawback is that the menu is pretty pricey--not good for a low-budget meal out. Pros: Delicious, authentic Jewish food. Cons: Pricey. more

Pastrami will bring you to tears 5/20/2007

I love Jay and Lloyd's and in fact have an order of their wonderful pastrami sitting in my fridge. I don't live in NYC, but every time I visit I try to get my hands on some of their food. The pastrami is outstanding, but there are lots of other great things to try -- knishes, heart-shaped pickles, excellent corned beef, even inventive vegetarian dishes for the non-meat eaters or the curious. It's worth the trip, particularly to kibbitz with Lloyd. more

Ask for the schmaltzy corned beef 12/30/2006

This is kosher style deli the way it used to be. Their pastrami is excellent and so is just about everything else the make. However, if you are a corned beef maven ask them for the corned beef that isn't so lean that all the flavor is gone. Pros: Yummy deli Cons: Cholesteral more

Great tasting food 5/11/2006

I go there and buy sandwiches which are the best taste I ate in any store. They cut the roast beef, salami, etc at a perfect size. They also make there own home made mustard and is spicy which I like. Pros: great food, good price more

Best Deli 4/26/2005

The food is everything I remember best about Kosher Delicatessens growing up in Brooklyn. Once they were everywhere in NY. Now we're down to a precious few. Jay & Lloyd is by far, no contest the best. Pastrami, corned beef, brisket, Romanian tenderloin steaks, all huge and fabulous. Plus, they have a large selection of less fattening items and even vegetarians can find interesting entrees to try. Pros: excellent food, friendly atmosphere, reasonably priced more

Unbelievable 10/14/2004

Jay and Lloyd's is the best deli I have ever been to. Their pastrami and corned beef, which I found out they make themselves is unbelievable. For people who prefer vegetables, their vegeterian wraps are the best. more
