I just thought I'd shed a little more light on the history of what was once called "Jax Surplus". My father Jack Brenner was one of the original partners that created Jax. Jack teamed up with members of the Dreer family that owned the local pickle factory. The idea was to use the the army surplus as an initial "hook", but it was my father's concept of providing hunting and fishing products that provided the longevity of the Jax brand. It seems to have worked. I'm proud to know that my fathers legacy remains in wonderful Ft. Collins. more

Outdoor Gear and MORE 12/9/2005

JAX is a Fort Collins institution that got it's start in 1955 as a surplus store with rows of tables filled with military and government surplus gear. Who knew it would morph into an upscale, yuppie outdoor / sporting goods / clothing / kitchen store. A fun place to browse and shop with something for everyone in the family. more

Local REI-type store with all of your outdoor needs 8/20/2005

Jax Outdoor Gear is like a local REI. They have clothes, climbing gear, shoes, camping gear, fishing gear, and just about anything you could need outdoors. It’s a large store that’s nice inside with good lighting. It’s on the north edge of town, so you might have to drive a while. The prices are average. Jax: all your outdoor gear 8/16/2005

Jax is a great locally owned store that sells all the outdoor gear for camping, fishing, backpacking, hunting, etc that you would need. Not only do they have a great selection but they have great service. When I ripped my relatively new rain gear, they sent it back to the manufacturer for repair for me. more

Not the farm store, but the other Jax 8/7/2005

This place is an outdoor lovers extravaganza!! If ever there was a fun place to shop, this is it! From a seemingly humble facade, this store huge and is packed with everything the outdoor enthusiast could ask for. Hiking, camping, fishing, cycling, hunting, clothing, even lodge-type housewares... AND a coffee bar! We don't even live in Fort Collins, but every time we pass through we try to stop at Jax. We ALWAYS buy something! more
