After walking by the Japanese Friendship Garden many time when I went to Balboa park, recently I decided to go in and have a look. By the name, you might think it's just a garden, but actually, it's just an area fenced off containing many interesting small items. Instead of the typical garden you would expect, this garden is more of the zen variety. They have an exhibit house inside that has rotating exhibits. Supposedly, in March they would have the seven tiered altar of the Japanese royal court on display. Other things I found interesting include a pond where volunteers were handing out fish food so you can feed the fish. bamboo trees, and bonsai trees. Worth a look if you haven't seen it.
