Japanese American Museum 4/9/2006

I recently went here as a part of an assignment for my GE class Japanese Civilization. At first, I only had a surface interest in the Japanese people, as I recently studied the Japanese internment during WWII. However, this museum has exhibits on almost every part of Japanese culture, including clothing, music, religion, and even on the internment issues during the WWII. I was able to learn a lot about the Japanese culture that I never imagined, and this place is a GREAT place to learn about the unique and mysterious history of the Japanese people. more

this is a very special museum! i really enjoyed walking thru this museum. it is very different from other museums that i have been in. this one seems to be so reverent. it's very quiet and people are musing about. i have been to this museum several times and have enjoyed each time more than the last. And there's hardly ever a large crowd around. the gift shop is a great place to stop at the end of you tour. you can buy a great deal of things here and the prices are comparable. i like to go once every few months. they once had a tribute to the 9/11 come here as an exhibit. that was VERY moving and emotional... more

The Japanese American National Museum is a great place to learn about history of the Japanese people in America. I went to this museum to get extra credit for a class I was taking at my local community college and I was struck by the poignant struggles Japanese Americans went through here in the U.S. during World War II. more

The Japanese American Museum is a cool place to go inside of LA. They have various exhibits such as the current one that has a Taiko drummer during every other wednesday that shows you the meaning and sound of the powerful drum. They also have an exhibition that is all about the Japanese incarceration during the WWII. more

The museum preserves the heritage of the Issei (first generation Japanese Americans). Belongings of Japanese Americans who were interned in California during WWII are displayed in the main pavilion, recalling the hardships of those trying years. The pavilion's tranquil rock and water garden offsets these stark images. Vintage photographs, archival documents and fine art by Japanese artists round out the rich collection. JANM also offers film screenings, readings and crafts classes. Admission: Adults $6; students/children (6-17) $3; seniors $5. Admission is free every Thursday from 5pm to 8pm and all day every third Thursday of the month. more

Culture 8/15/2005

A really neat museum in Los Angeles. Really pretty architecture. They have a small garden which is shielded from the street. They have a lot of neat things inside, it is very educational. A great way to spend the afternoon if you are interested in culture. They also do events, and their event room is very spacious and one wall is all windows which is really pretty. more
