Best Vet Around! 11/10/2011

I take both of my dogs to James Island Veterinary Hospital. They've seen both Drs. McCullers and Wendling and each time they've received outstanding care. The staff members are knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help. The facility is clean and well maintained. Their prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this vet to anyone in the Charleston area. more

WONDERFUL Vet! 11/4/2011

Wonderful vet! Everyone that works here was incredibly nice and helpful this past week while we had our boykin spaniel, Duke, there. I can't say enough about how caring they were during this difficult time. I highly recommend them! more

Great vet!! 3/9/2011

I had always heard that Mitch was a great vet but didn't switch clinics until the new doctor, Natalie Wendling, joined the clinic (as a female business owner, I prefer to patronize females). I am so glad I switched. Not only is Dr. Wendling very attentive she is also cost conscious and practical (she offered alternatives that didn't necessarily ratchet up my invoice). Further, the vet techs were the most knowledgeable I have been exposed to in my 20 years of pet ownership. Overall, going there is a very pleasant experience. more

I switched vets too. 7/27/2010

We took our 3 dogs and 2 cats to J,I. Veterinary Hospital for about 3 years. Dr Mitch & some of the back room staff were wonderful... but the front desk staff left a bit to be desired. Often rude, never trying to make our lives easier, made me decide to take our animals to Ohlandt Veterinary on Folly Rd. I have been so happy that I made that decision. The staff there is so kind, always accommodating, and the pricing is at least 30 - 40% less expensive than J.I. Vet. more

An excellent standard of care 6/22/2009

I have been going to this vet for years. I have consistently received caring and professional service. If you are looking for a vet who respects animals and does his best to render an excellent standard of care then I would say do not hesitate in having the staff at james Island Vet take care of your animal. more

Never Again 4/13/2009

I have never been treated as rudely as I was by the vet tech and Dr. McCullers at this clinic. In setting an appt. with them for health certificates and rabies vaccines for my travel to Canada, I was told by the Dr. "WE ARE NOT A TRAVEL AGENCY!" when I asked them if that was all I needed for the trip. The vet tech also said to me "You needed to tell us why you were coming in so that we could be prepared!" And guess what?!?!?!? I had told the front desk, the information didn't make it back to her. After a 5 minute attack by Dr. McCullers on my lack of preparedness for the trip, I asked for my files and left. Headed straight for Ohlandt Vet Clinic on Folly Rd. where I was promptly helped (with a smile), told exactly what I would need for the border crossing and an appt. was set up for the next morning. DO NOT GO TO JAMES IS. VET HOSPITAL if you want to be treated with respect and in a professional manner. Dr. McCullers was clueless and didn't know what pets need for travel. That is HIS j more

knowledgable and caring 12/1/2008

my gsd had skin problems all of her life and numerous vets had said there were no affordable or effective treatments. dr mitch fully evaluated my dogs skin and made a treatment plan. he described the plan, costs, and other options. the treatment worked, just as he said it would, and i was very satisfied. more

Friendly, caring staff who walked me through caring for my first pet 7/3/2008

I am a first time dog owner and needed to get my new puppy seen quickly. The receptionist did not hesitate to give me an appointment and offered advice over the phone before I even entered the office. I felt very comfortable there as I have four children and am very observant of people's demeaner around them when it comes to medical care. I felt that all of my questions and concerns were satisfied. Also, they sent me out with a free first month supply of heartworm and flea treatments and I was not encouraged to buy things I did not need. I look forward to a long relationship with James Island Vet. Hospital. more

Adrienne Otto 3/15/2008

I was shocked and appalled at what came out of her mouth when I expressed my hesitation about sedating my 12 eyar old dog for treatment. "He's fat and he might croak, but that's a risk we'll have to take." A little sensitivity would have been nice, instead she told me I needed to stop coddling him. more

Years Of Service, No More 1/29/2008

After having used this Vet service for more than a decade we have decided to go elsewhere.\r \r The reason. The good Vet has changed his billing system, itemizing each and every potential revenue service including some that are highly questionable.\r \r Such as, technician fee if the vet does not see your pet, $10.50. If the vet sees your pet then the fee jumps to $43.00. Also charging for expendables and disposal fees for a simple injection. In our opinion he has become the most expensive Vet on James Island, SC.\r \r No thank you.\r \r George and Charlene more

Caring, Honest, Clean, Professional 11/16/2007

11-16-07: Before bringing my cat, I drove around to check out different clinics to get a feel for the establishments. I immediately felt good about this place when I pulled in; the outside looked clean and professional, the inside was orderly, clean and well-lit. I arrived unannouced, but they were willing to accommodate me and I was able to talk to a vet-tech about my concerns. I made an appointment for the next week and brought my maine-coone cat who had a terrible mat around his genitals. Dr. Mitchell saw my cat. I was very worried because I knew my cat would need to be fully sedated by a "gas box" because of a past experience in a different clinic in which Liam, my cat, actually screamed, he was so traumatized and would not let anyone touch him in that area. Dr. Mitchell was patient with me while I asked a lot of questions. They allowed me to observe if I wanted to. The proceedure was quick and I had never been more nervous. Liam is soooo much better now and hopefully, with a clean more

First impression was good! 9/16/2007

I entered this animal hospital on 9-13-07, not to get an appointment for my pet, but to introduce myself and my new business, Puppy Love Mobile Grooming to the James Island Veterinary Hospital. I cannot comment on the any treatment my dog got, but I can say that the front office environment and the staff that spoke with me were professional, friendly and focused. I observed interactions between the staff and their customers and their dogs and liked what I saw.\r \r If my dog, Gracie needed a vet, I certainly would consider using this James Island Veterinary Hospital. more

Highly recommend 11/19/2005

We brought our dog into James Island Veterinary Hospital since our normal vet was on vacation and our dog was limping. The staff was very helpful, and the vet was caring and provided us with the proper medication and instructions to ensure that our dog's leg would heal properly. The prices were fairly reasonable as well, and we would definitely bring our dog there again if our normal vet was unavailable. PROS: High quality of service CONS: None more
