I guess it was ok. The couches in back were sort of nice, but they don't make it worth coming to the bar. Reminds me of Michigan bars- sort of lame. Pros: lounge area Cons:...

Beware. \r If I could give less than one star I would. This place is lucky I didn't press charges for assault. I was there with my friend and his girlfriend, having a beer and enjoying the game and happy hour. All of a sudden two bouncers came out of nowhere and accused the two of us of ""touching girls"". When I tried to tell them they had made a mistake I was told aggressively to ""shut the **** up"" and the two of us were physically ejected from the bar. I tried several times to talk to them but they just shut me down with abuse. Once we were on the side walk one bouncer decided he'd add to our embarrassment by shouting at us loud enough for passers by to hear that we ""deserved that for touching girls"". My friend's girlfriend was horrified and went home alone in shock. I left there with cuts on both elbows, and a large bruise on my chest and my thigh from being manhandled. Way to go Jakes. No dilemma about whether or not to go back. A holes. more

A college bar at best 8/31/2010

I've heard good things about this place so I figured that I'd give it a shot... I wanted to grab a quick drink before heading to the lower east side. These two places couldnt not have been more mismatched. When I walked in, everyone was rude ,chubby and dirty. The beer was cheap so I can't complain about that but the people there sucked and should go back to the frat house. more

Great Staff! 6/28/2010

I just threw a surprise party here and I have to say that the staff was amazing! We got a private room, open bar and a beer pong table for a very reasonable price. Our cocktail wautress was great, very fast w/ drinks and polite & our bouncer was amazing! the manager even come over & introduced himself within the first few minutes & was a great help. We all had a little too much fun. Thanks! more

This place is good time! 2/25/2010

I went here with a few friends on a Tuesday night and had a blast! The drink specials are crazy! The bar staff was friendly and very fun!- They were quite entertaining actually. The bartender bought us delicious shots because it was my friends Birthday! The people at Jake's seemed to come from all walks of life which I like (it wasn't your stereotypical college bar). The food was surprisingly good too! ( we got the nachos and they are huge!). I also got a salad which was very good. I am planning making Jake's a go-to from now on. Pros: Unbelievable specials... Grey Goose for 4.25!?! Amazing Cons: no oranges for Blue Moon more

Horribly rude bardender 4/13/2009

So, I came in recently for a friends birthday. I was having such a good time until I went to pay. There was some things on the bill that I was sure i didn't order. I asked the bartender about it and he went from nice and flirty all night to rude and wanted to kick me out in two seconds. I said I didn't think i had one of the items on the bill. I said i wasn't the drunk and knew what I had ordered, he then said well look at your tab, implying that I was drunk. I couldn't believe how nice to mean this guy went as soon as as I asked a question. If I had ordered it I would have paid it with a 20% tip. Just by questioning this one thing he freaked was rude came back to me and said ""Oh well I voided your bill and tried to charge you half but now your card isn't working so I'm voiding the whole bill"". I didn't want to pay half I wanted to pay the bill that I owed. I work in the hospitality business and I treat everybody with respect, it's my job. I have never been treated so rudely and like whatever i said didn't matter as I was treated here. Pros: nice space Cons: some of the waitstaff more

amazing 21st birthday 2/1/2009

I had the best night of my life, honestly. It was my 21st birthday party, and the party planners were amazingly helpful and really made my night one to remember. I held the party in the Living room, it was perfect for people who wanted to sit because there were comfy couches, they set up a beer pong table for us where we played beer pong and flip cup, and the staff was incredible. Our cocktail waitress was such a sweet heart, and the bouncers were so nice. they treated us all like VIP and we all had such a great time. Go to Jakes Dilemma and have a party! more

Do not recommend this place at all. My brother was kicked out of the bar for tipping less than 20% on the first round of drinks he bought. Mind you, these were bottled beers! First. Tipping should not be MANDATORY. Second. Good service=good tip and bad service=bad tip. the bartender was RUDE and did NOT even deserve the 10% tip my brother did give him. There was absolutely no justice for being kicked out of a disgusting run down bar because you do not tip 20%. Does not make sense to me at all. The bouncers were VERY rude and screamed at us while we were getting into our cabs after getting kicked out. I warned them I would make it public that I was disappointed in the service we received and the bouncer's only response was that ""they won't be shutting down because they are losing one customer and that he made more money in one night than we did in weeks"". It is ridiculous to treat customers badly because you think their input means nothing... To put it simply, Brother Jimmy's, Gin Mill, and Bourbon Street are much better versions of this college style bar and the staff at these other bars are much more pleasant than the rude, uneducated staff at Jakes. Pros: located in a good area Cons: rude staff, dirty bathrooms, too much of a frat boy scene. more

What a hidden treasure!!!! Pleasantly surprised!!! 10/25/2008

I went to Jake's on a Saturday night , I was a lil skeptical .......when I walked in I was a lil nervous seeing the crowd and the masses; however, I must say I was so pleasently surprised!!! The drinks were sooo cheap for the area, the bartender was sooo friendly and patient with me even when I didn't know my drink and she had about 25 other people in her face yelling their orders.....Great music the DJ was such a great mix....everyone was just chill just trying to have a good time.... I was definitely recommend Jake's Dilemma to chill people who are just looking to go out and have a fun but interesting night with some friends. All around well done Jake's Dilemma. I'm hooked! Pros: great bartenders, friendly staff, cheap drinks, great atmosphere more

Not good! 12/30/2007

if you are anything but a guy dont go....they dont treat guys well...much better bars in the area (lots agree) Pros: cheap drinks Cons: hate guys more

Good Fun, Good Company, and an Overall Good Loose Night in NYC! 11/12/2007

I've gone to Jake's a few times in the last few years, and everytime I go, I've had a great time. Some nights are better than others, but there are no complaints. The bartenders are on top of everything; I've never had to wait drastically long for service. Booze is decently priced, and no one is pretentious. You can talk to anyone there. Everyone there is out to get loose and have fun. You have your occasional person trying to start trouble, but the bouncers are always on top of their game. I've had such a good time there everytime I go, I seriously make it a weekly outing, b/c you never know what'll happen! Pros: Bartenders, Wide Selection of Beer, Good Company Cons: No dance space, mid-size space more

No Specials On Friday - Go with your group and you can have a good time 7/16/2007

I would have to say all in all this is an average bar. Went there on Friday and was paying $5 for Bud Lights. Seems that they have specials everyday but Friday. Bartenders were great as it was packed with a younger college crowd and you could still get a drink without a long wait. Had no problems whatsoever with any staff or any members of the crowd and even though it was packed everybody was getting along. more

The owners are doing themselves a disservice with this staff - too many better dive bar options in the neighborhood. 4/24/2007

I'm guessing that the owners/staff of the bar wrote at least half of those 'positive reviews'. Seriously, this place went downhill in the last few years(it was always a dive bar, but b/f it was awesome within the context of it's genre). If you like a place where the bartender slips your date his number (after witnessing it happen to another, the same guy tried to slip my buddy's girlfriend his number), or a bouncer constantly hanging around flirting with the ladies in your group, by all means go to Jake's. If you're a guy with a woman, it's actually quite difficult to keep the male staff away from you. Our only mistake was after subjecting ourselves to it once, we went back a second time and found similar results. Both nights I went to Jake's the cops came and both times the staff had truly instegated the problem(although the staff managed to get the customer reprimanded in both cases) - and both times it was over a woman. Jake's is a shadow of it 's former self, and will have a difficult time keeping good clientele with the current team. There are too many other 'similar' dive bar options in the area that do not pose such problems. Good location keeps it afloat, but the owners are doing themselves a disservice with this staff. Pros: Good Beer Selection Cons: Staff more

Uptown College Bar 12/30/2006

Its a college dive bar, but one in which is a lot of fun especially during weekends. Its never been too crowded, drinks are pretty cheap, and the atmosphere is rowdy but casual. Pros: Value, Bartenders, Games Cons: Crowded more

Always a fun low key hang out 10/24/2006

This place is very low key and fun! My friends and I always have a great time with the adoring bartenders dave and jack. So cute you want to eat them. The drinks are great and munchies are available. Shoot pool, play beer pong or flirt. Whatever you decide you will be in good company. Plus, there are a string of similarly fun places on the block. Not the kind of place you go to be glamorous. Ideal to meet a pal for a drink Pros: not glitzy Cons: not glitzy more

worth a visit 9/12/2006

My friend and I have been to Jake's a bunch of times, usually during the week. Definitely not trendy - just a good place to grab a beer with your friends. The bartenders are solid and there's usually new beers there that I haven't heard of. Prices and specials are decent, too Pros: no gimmicks, prices more

My night with Tony Danza 2/2/2006

Ok, so been going to Jake's for about a year. thursday nights rock. $10 PITCHERS of shots. Yes I said pitchers. Can't beat the prices. Bartenders are nice, and attractive. Plus last week Tony Danza was there yelling out quotes from Broke Back Mountain. I must say... all-in-all a vrey fun Thursday night. more
