Riis Parky 7/18/2009

Not far from Brooklyn's floydbennett feild where I used to grow my plants. From here you can see boats pass by...... Not a safe place to go late at night as drunkkkks from the belle harboe area border the area. Not far from board channel, the A train. This is an open park/field, so it's dangerous in lightning. You can occasionally grow crops here. This is very close to a beach. It is sort of a quiet place for southern Queen, more of a suburban type, that the urban side of Queens closer to Manhattan. This park is located in the alrgest boro, and you can see distant fireworks towards the east at night.\r Towards the west you can see the Kingsboro college, and the verrixano bridge, and a few buildings of the manhattan skyline. A great place for dog walking as long as there no poopie on the grass so bring newspapers. Late at night there are weeeed smokers so be carefull. Pros: Nice scnery of sunsets of lower New York Bay Cons: Late at night police car are always passing by checking more

You get what you pay for 9/4/2008

This is closer than going all the way out to jones beach.Plus Jones beach is always crowded. It's a New York City Beach. What do you really expect. The beach is free to get in . Parking is $5 .If you want a quick trip to the beach for tanning or just to cool down then just make sure you have water shoes. The sand is not the cleanest ... when you first walk on the sand its clean then there is a section where the sand mixed with blended seashells (OUCH!) , then it clears up a little after that . Not by much. The sand by the water has a lot of broken and pretty seashells. Again you get what you pay for . This beach is FREE! so what can you say . There is a Ice Cream Truck that stays on the board walk area. The showers work .COLD WATER ONLY!!! BrRRRRR Pros: Clean bathrooms, working showers, parking Cons: chicken bones in the sand more

A Mess 8/18/2008

Poorly maintained, depressingly abandoned feeling in Ft. Tilden. Riis Park dirty, Bay Wall area dangerous never maintained. Who's watching the management? This place is a disgrace. It is a national park and the only activity is from local arts and sports groups. What goes on with the federal govt.? I see workers (people in uniforms) are there but what are they doing? Pros: Nature Cons: Not Maintained more

Hidden Gem of Beach in NY 5/25/2007

This beach is a really nice one that most people overlook in NYC. Only about 15 miles from Brooklyn Heights, Riis park has nice sand and is much less crowded than the Long Island beaches.\r \r Nice for a quick beach fix getaway, especially for the Brooklyn and Manhattan crew. Pros: Its a nearby beach in NYC!, nice sand, not too crowded Cons: A bit dirty like any city beach, need a car more
