J&R can't be beat for their wide selection and prices , but unless you're gonna spend big bucks the sales people are indifferent at best . I have been shopping there since the 70's and can't recall one thank you . more

Bait and switch 1/26/2009

J & R Music posted a add for 8 GB Mp3 player with AmericanExpress and i ordered it for $62.94. J & R emailed a confirmation of the 8GB player and sent me a 4 GB player. Now i get the run around. more

Bad bad experience 11/5/2008

Ordered two iPod Touch(es) online from this merchant described online as the "latest iPod touch" and the "new iPod Touch." Instead of receiving two Generation II Touches we received two Generation Is. J&R later admitted in an email they never updated the product description on the Generation I when the Generation II came out. No apology for this of course, no exchange offered either. What were we offered you ask? A $20 refund on a $546 purchase of something we didn't want. Stay away. more

J & R is THE place in the city to buy anything computer or electronic related. You usually cannot beat their prices, and they simply have the best selection, possibly because of more space, but you just can't beat it. Cameras, computers, printers, music, DVDs, CDs, accessories, it's all here. They also have student software in the store which can be a great help. Sales people are very helpful. My biggest complaint is that you have to keep going up and downstairs to find what you need, sort of like Pearl Paint, but at least there are escalators! Also - if you ever need to return anything, it's like going to an underground prison - kind of a scary experience, and they're not too happy to see you there. Other than that, A+! more

Most annoying shopping experience in NYC 5/16/2006

I do everything, EVERYTHING in my power to avoid going here. The salesmen work on commission and are oppressive and annoying, until they find out you're not spending as much as they hoped. The location is a hassle, and the various security protocols associated with making your purchase are annoying at best. That said, when you need some sort of software or gadgetry at the last minute, they always have it and for the best price (although I'm often willing to pay more to avoid going there). When desperate call, but oh is it woe to shop there. more

J and R is a great electronics/music store. They have virtually everything you need and with great selections: digi cams, pcs, monitors, iPods, headphones, stereos, etc. Their music selection is also unbelievably good (two flights) with a video selection in the lower floor. Also, things are a lot cheaper in J and R than in other NYC electronic stores like the Wiz and Radio Shack. more

Music, electronics and more 2/2/2006

I have been shopping at J&R for a long time. I remember when it was a few stores that sold only music. Bought albums there way back in the day. Today it is a huge store, with not just music but also electronic equipment and more. Everything from home audio, computers and just about anything you might need. Just because I don't live in NYC anymore doesn't mean I don't shop there. They are on-line as well, and I have bought some of my home electronic and computer equipment on line from them. My merchandise is always delivered quickly, and the prices can't be better. I have been a customer of J&R for a long time, and the reason is always been selection, price and customer service. A great store, and one I always visit when I'm in town. more

Friendly staff and great selection - one stop electronics shopping 11/10/2005

J&R is the place to go for your electronics. The music section is large and they do have some musical scores in stock that usually has to be special ordered. The store is easy to navigate and well organized. They hold good sales, items are in stock usually and the sales people are knowledgeable enough to answer all your questions. Most importantly if you should encounter a problem, the customer service will handle it swiftly and completely without hassle or blame. I bought all my apple accessories here and the last time I went to buy an ipod the sales associates actually asked me if I had relatives in NJ because if I shipped the ipod there I would not be charged NY taxes. Now thats thinking 2 steps ahead. more

Great place to browse and buy 8/20/2005

J & R is huge electronics store located in lower Manhattan. They carry everything from home telephones to computers & laptops, to high end home audio video equipment. Even if you’re not looking to purchase, it’s a great place to browse. You’ll find a lot of those during lunch hour as it’s located in busy downtown. J & R occupies a few separate buildings on one city block with each department separated from one another. Their staff is knowledgeable and eager to assist with any questions. Their prices are very competitive and I believe they also price match as well. The return policy is great. I remember I had no problems with returning my $700 digital camera even after 30 days. If you live out of state you can save on taxes by having them ship to your home. more

J & R is like has everything electronic. They have several stores that take up the block. Each store is separated by category. They have one store that just sells music and dvd's. Another store that sells computer and its accessories. They even recently open a separate outlet store for there sale items on clearance. The staff is very informative and helpful. If you ever have any questions J & R is a good pace to start. more

Vast Electronics Empire 8/17/2005

J & R occupies a whole series of buildings on Park Row across from City Hall. They have everything electronic: Computers, stereos, TVs, videos, cds, cameras, etc. Annoyingly, everything is in a different storefront with a different entrance and most are not connected inside. However, after a couple of visits, you will get the hang of it. And its worth it because they have absolutely everything you will ever need and good prices on top of it. more

This store is the most famous J&R computer and music world. This store has tvs, video games, dvds, everything. They have cheap prices and they are the best in the buissness. They have everything you can think of. I usually pick up cheap dvds and video games. I recommend this store to anybody who would like to get cheap electronics. more

Large Selection of Gadgets and Computers 8/16/2005

J&R Music and Computer World is one of the largest local electronic stores in New York City. Located on Park Row in Manhattan, the store is huge and stocked with every random gadget you can imagine. When you first walk in, you are often in awe at how many different computers they have. From the latest Apple macintoshes to the newest Sony VAIO laptops, J&R has nearly every computer and accessory that is sold on the market today. There are also iPods, digital cameras, and a huge floor full of every CD every pressed in the world. The music selection here is simply awesome. Prices are resonable, sales are plentiful. They also have a circular that they release with their latest deals which you should check out. more

Fine selection of Music and Gadgets 8/15/2005

Wow I've been coming to J&R since I was a little girl with my dad. He would take me on these special trips with my sister to buy music cassettes and cds. I would be amazed of how big their music section was. I easily found my favorite broadway musicals and my oldies but goodies selection (50s-60s music). They have one big store devoted on music. The price can be expensive, but if you are looking for an old favorite J&R is your place. In addition to music, they also sell a range of electronics such as computers, television, phones, and other gadgets. more

I have to say it. They own the block. They really do. They stretch around nearly the whole block, split into the camera sect, Electronics/Clearance sect, Music Sect, Appliances Sect, Computers Sect. It's really wonderful to have everything that is entertainment and electronics in one area. Each sect has different levels. It has a whole bunch of stock. They even have Telescopes! It's a crazy world out there. more

Big selection 8/5/2005

Lots of everything at this cluster of stores, you can get appliances, music, tvs, whatever here. The occasional special / sale and the closeout store at the end of the block makes it worth going here. There's always so many people that it makes shopping a pain -- and the security guard always has to check your receipt so don't lose it. Prices are about par for NY stores, but you can get better deals online. more

While you are doing comparison shopping for models of PCs (desktop and laptop) as well as all the latest PDA items, this is a good place to add on your list for a price and accessory comparison. I've found the service to be inconsistent - sometimes having a great sales associate who is knowledgeable and attentive, and another time having someone who knew less than me. If you are serious about purchasing however, let them know and watch for their best deal - it might just make you take out your credit card on the spot more

Somewhat Satisfied with this store! 6/24/2005

J&R has some the cheapest prices I could find anywhere. I rather order online than go to the store. I have been to their store a few times. Online Product ordering is easy. It took them a few more days to ship out than I would have liked, but overall, I am satisfied with how they processed my order. Received the product in perfect condition and well packaged with bubble wrap. I would purchase from them in the future again. more
