After buying my first large house 2 years ago, I was excited but a bit overwhelmed. I am an inveterate shopper and so I traveled to select furniture stores from NYC to Williamsburg, VA. looking for the best quality and values. I studied Veranda, Architecture Digest, and other magazines to learn about what was "in" and what was lasting. Then I found J.M. Walton in nearby Fraser and my life was suddenly simplified.
The store offers an atmosphere of sophisticated gentility. Each piece is carefully selected and distinctive. All are solid wood and many pieces are bench-made and imported from France, England and Italy. Since all items on the floor are immediately available, the buyer can judge the comfort of a chair, or the unique shades of burled wood, and can see the effect of combining pieces.
I have found the salespeople wonderfully patient and helpful in suggesting how to decorate specific rooms. I invariably receive compliments on the many pieces I have purchased. Debbie was especially helpful and sympathetic to my wish to buy pieces that can serve multiple purposes in different settings. Thus, my selections will be good investments which will serve as "transitional pieces" if I move to another dream house.
Delivery is fast, reasonable and almost to the moment of expectation.
Pros: Outstanding selection, quick delivery, decorating assistance
Cons: No credit cards accepted, but this keeps prices lower
