Great Happy Hour 7/19/2010

Stop by for an happy hour. Great view. On a summer day, I would even come by for lunch after riding or rollerblading on the river-trail. Be seated outside on the deck under the rare Seattle sun. What a life. more

Good Food With a Nice View 2/19/2007

I had the salmon sampler, which was a nice way to taste the different flavours of the different types of salmon. Our seat was on the edge of the restaurant looking over the water. The food is a bit pricey, but it's a nice place to bring a date (if you sit by the window) or perhaps out-of-town guests to give them a taste (and view) of Seattle. more

Great location and great food for happy hour! 8/31/2006

Dont be mistaken for Ivars as those fast food seafood restaurants Ivars by lake union is awesome for happy hour i believe its from 3-6 but i could be wrong usually it gets packed on the weekend as it is near the UofW were employee or student head there for happy hour. For the price your paying i dont think your paying for half portions. The fish and chips are exceptional. I would have to put this Ivars as the flagship restaurant in seattle if you havent been here i definitely recommend this place not to mention they also offer great cocktails with happy hour prices. The atmosphere is fun and more of a younger college crowd. Wait staff was always there to make sure we were ok. especially with the drinks. more

Ivars used to be a favorite but the service is slipping! 8/31/2006

I've always loved Ivar’s Salmon house and thought it was a great place to bring out of town guests but my last few dinner experiences, both at the Lake Union location and downtown water front, haven't been so good. We've had a waiter with BO, a rude waitress and food that was prepared improperly and then it took forever to get the replacement dish. I am NOT a picky person but the service has really been below par. We do enjoy the brunch and go a couple times a year and visit the seafood bar often but if you are looking for a nice dinner, look somewhere else. more

Their brunch is fab! 4/13/2006

I have a family member who works for Ivars, so we get to go to brunch there once a year. Man is it good! The selection is extensive, everything is fresh, and the ambiance is very nice. Definitely make a point to try it! more

Yummy and fantastic happy hour! 3/31/2006

Definitely go to the bar after 9pm for some great food and drinks cheap! They have a fantastic after 9pm happy hour. The food is pretty good and if you go in the summer you can sit outside and enjoy Lake Union. Definitely a great hangout. Also a good place to take large groups. Unfortunately I've never eaten in the restaurant part, so I'm not sure how that stacks up. more

When are they going to rebuild the Salmon House 3/29/2006

I used to love going here, and judging from the crowds (and the reviews here) so did a lot of other people. So why haven't they made a move to rebuild the burned-out Salmon House? more

Choices 9/13/2005

Ivars is a wonderful Seattle tradition. At this location, you can either sit out on the pier with your cheap lunch or dinner of fish and chips and watch the boats or you can dine inside in the actual restaurant with beautiful views of the boats, water, and skyline. The food is amazing- from the fish and chips to the salmon, and there is always fabulous chowder on the menu. There are even options for those who do not care for seafood. Even if you don’t like seafood- come to Ivars for either type of meal and you will enjoy yourself. more

Great place to bring out of town guests! 8/29/2005

Located on Lake Union, Ivar's has an amazing view of downtown. There is plenty of outdoor seating, which is perfect for summer time visits. Ivar’s Salmon house is also a an excellent place to bring out of town guests who are not accustom to Seattle. I should also mention that the food is good. I have only order the Fish and Chips and the Clam Chowder. No need for me to try anything else, because this is what I come to Ivar's for. The bar, The Whalemaker (ask the bar tender the origin of the name) has on of the best happy hour around. I am also a fan of the decor. If you have time, walk around the restaurant for a while and check out the various Northwest artifacts and memorabilia. more

Salmon on the lake 8/27/2005

Filled with Native American artifacts, including canoes hung from the ceiling, and overlooking Lake Union with a pretty view of the Space Needle, Ivar's Salmon House is a popular restaurant to treat out of towners to salmon prepared Northwest-style (that is, alderwood smoked). Other seafood and fish dishes are also available. Cornbread comes with the meal. Overall, a pleasant meal experience. more

Not sure its rockin', but awesome sunny friday afternoon happy hour 8/26/2005

They have a menu of great food items that are all $2.95 and a monstrous deck right on the water. This place gets crowded very quickly though, so the coveted deck seats need to be claimed early. That is one reason this place gets "great" instead of "perfect". They also have good microbrews and wine for $2.95. It's a relatively diverse crowd and they do have a few large TV's if a Mariners game or something is on. From memory, the happy hour goes from 4:30 to 7, but I am not 100% sure of the exact hours. After reading some other insightful reviews, I should probably mention this happy hour applies to the whalemaker bar, so it is not family friendly as a side note. more

Clamtastic 8/24/2005

The Salmon House is awesome on so many levels because it offers a variety of dining experiences. The indoor and outdoor menus are somewhat different, and the bar menu is 50% off from 9:00-Close. How’s that for a Happy Hour? This is truly one of the best spots for inexpensive waterfront dining. With regards to the bar food, I highly recommend the clam strips & chips, the wings, the salmon skewers, and—of course—the chowder. Outside, I enjoy the Cajon fish & chips. The décor reflects local history, and the beer selection is representative of local favorites, including Mack & Jacks (very, very important). more

Feed the seagulls 8/17/2005

Of course you can engage in this avian feeding ritual at the downtown Ivar's as well but this Ivar's has a better view and a better Happy hour. The view from the patio looks south over Lake Union and encompasses downtown Seattle. The happy hour menu is long and includes the clam chowder, salad, fish tacos, etc. It is very inexpensive. You can also order food from the front take out stall or you can dine in at the restaurant. Every weekend this Ivar's has a wonderful brunch buffet that in my opinion is almost as good as Salty's. more

Perfect Summer Happy Hour 8/17/2005

Located right on Lake Union, this Ivar's has great views of the lake and downtown Seattle. Their bar (The Whalemaker) has a great Happy Hour. If you like Ivar's food, you will love their cheap Happy Hour. Most items are $2.50, including clam chowder and full orders of fish and chips. You can eat inside or outside. The outside dining is open to everyone, meaning you can bring kids to happy hour. Ivar's Salmon House also does a great weekend brunch buffet that is more affortable than Salty's. more

Good basic salmon; great views 8/16/2005

Expecting great seafood from Ivar's Salmon House when we went there with out of town relatives, I left underwhelmed by the fish, but delighted by the views. Situated on Lake Union, Ivar's has great views, especially on a warm summer evening. Sitting on the deck, or inside at a window, is highly recommended. The fish, including several varieties of salmon, halibut and shrimp, is roasted over alderwood and has a lovely hint of smoke to it, but we were all a bit disappointed in the quality -- the salmon was a bit dry and didn't burst with flavor, and the crab cakes needed more crab and less onion. The halibut was better, with a good texture and nice mild flavor, and the shrimp was surprisngly good, slightly sweet and smoky. White clam chowder was nice, with a subtle onion note, but the smoked salmon chowder wasn't quite as flavorful -- a bit smoky, but the salmon didn't come through. The views are great, but I might get the fish and chips takeout and sit at a picnic table next time, myself. more

See my previous review of Ivar's Fish and Chips. I had them yesterday and they were delicious. Since you're in the Northwest, I recommenda the Salmon and Chips. You will not be disappointed. more

Ivars is a Seattle institution 8/4/2005

If you're like me, you learned of the joys of Ivar's fish and chips at an early age. Tonight I returned after a long hiatus with my wife and daughter. I had Salmon and chips and my wife had Halibut and chips. Maggie had a bottle. The food is pretty simple and pretty good. Fish and chips, clam chowder, etc. There's a carry out counter that gets pretty crowded but on a nice day like today it's not a big deal. There is also a sit down restaurant that I haven't been too in ages. We opted for carry out and outdoor seating. Ivar's is a Seattle institution and the food is only part of the reason why. Stop by and order the Salmon and chips if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed. more
