Best

I work a few blocks away and recently after work I discovered my new favorite spot . The prices are more than reasonable (less than $7 dollars for a caipirinha) and dinner under $...

Worst

We felt like the restaurant was working hardest on getting us out instead of making us food. Ironically, there were 6 other tables behind us in eating, so the rush made no sense....

Never Again! 10/4/2009

I had a piece of cake and I felt really sick to my stomach and hair was in my food, I receive my food first before the appetizer, also the beans smelled like feet. I didn't know if I was eating rubber or chicken. I had a horrible time!!! Pros: Bad Food & Service Cons: Illegal Immigrant Run The Restaurant more

Great food and awesome caipirinhas 5/8/2009

I work a few blocks away and recently after work I discovered my new favorite spot . The prices are more than reasonable (less than $7 dollars for a caipirinha) and dinner under $20 but beyond the prices the food is very authentic and really good. I have been to a few other brazilian restaurants in the city ( the same block mostly) and in Queens where I live but this is my favorite. Everyone the work there is Brazilian and the bartender is really nice. You have to try it whether it is for a sit down dinner with a date ( I took my sister the other day) or just a quick bite and a drink at the bar I highly recommended it. Pros: Best Caipirihna in New York by far!!! more

fabulous consistent food 11/13/2008

My all around fav restaurant in the city. While not quite the hottest talked about place in NY, it's tried and true. I've eaten there at least 10 times, and it never disappoints. From beginning to end, all dishes are fab! You can't say that about a lot of ""in"" places. The prices are not cheap, but all in all, fabulous consistent food and well worth it. more

Excellent food, good service, reasonable prices, recommended! 10/28/2006

My wife and I visited Ipanema recently after a theater matinee. We arrived early and found the restaurant uncrowded. We were promptly seated (we had reservations) at a table between the waterfall wall and large tropical jungle murals. The waiter was attentive and knowledgable. The food was excellent. The churrasco mixto included a variety of grilled meats that were tasty and well cooked. The coconut shrimp was served in a rich, sweet broth inside a coconut. Very tasty and nicely presented. Caipirinahs were potent and added to the authenticity of the experience. Dessert was the least impressive. The flan was good but no more than average. Prices were reasonable and portion sizes above average. Dining was leisurely and we did not feel at all rushed. Overall a great experience that I would recommend to anyone wanting to try something a bit different. Pros: Great food, authenic cuisine, good service Cons: Dessert could have been better. more

Definitely worth a visit. 8/28/2006

The food is delicious! The lamb chops were mouth watering....literally they melted in my mouth. Their chicken dishes were marinated perfectly. The service was very attentive. This is a tourist (pre-theatre) spot so the decor is average but nice. Pros: Food was great more

Delicious!!!! just perfect ;) 8/15/2006

Food is so so different!! Fabulous!! Very interesting and exciting!! The taste is like you have never tried such food anywhere before! So unique! I was first time there and I am amazed! And coctails - brazilian ones - awesome ;) For business dinner - perfect place! For after dinner meetings - the best! For drinks and friends meeting - good, very good! I'll go there definitely more more more times!!! And service - so friendly and helpful, they will do what ever so that customer will always be satified! Good job!! THANK YOU!!! Pros: Food, service, decorations more

Great spot -pre broadway 11/29/2003

A nice list of foods and strong caiprihinas make for a pleasant dinner. The dessert cart gets your mouth watering. Stop by if you need a change of pace from the regular stuff. more

Danilo, a friend of the place 11/10/2003

Great Place, Great food! Superb drinks courtesy of Leo! Thanks Alfredo and Carlos for this place! A heaven for people who work in the area. Bife Acebolado is my favorite dish. If you want good steak at a great price (Brazilain Style) this is the place to go. Pros: Value, Location, Good Latin atmosphere Cons: Busy at lunch time more

Tall and tan.... 7/3/2003

To those who doesn't experiment with foods from foreign countries - do not go in there. To those who who knows what real food means - you are welcomed! Brasil is beautiful country with happy people and awesome food. You can find it on W 46 street in Manhattan. I live in Seattle and we have only one Brasilian restaurant. Lucky New Yorkers have a lot. Ipanema is one of the best. more

Rushed Service 5/19/2003

We felt like the restaurant was working hardest on getting us out instead of making us food. Ironically, there were 6 other tables behind us in eating, so the rush made no sense. The food was very rich, and ingenuitous (one dish served in a hollowed coconut), but it sat heavy in the stomach. The waiter was nice, but the busboys were a pain. Don't expect your water glass refilled. This Brazilian restaurant has no Brazilian beer-- Portugese is closest. There's GOT to be a better place that isn't Plataforma-style. Pros: Not expensive, u can speak portugese, neat food presentat'n Cons: rushed service, Food very rich/heavy more

Authentic! 5/1/2003

I am brazilian and I love the food here! There vatapa and moqueca are amazing! the service was extremely friendly-and i lovee that they were brazilian so I could speak portuguese with them. The only thing was their farofa was mediocre, but then again I've never had farofa in a restaurant I was a fan of, my mom's is too good! Overally I highly recommend this restaurant! Pros: yummy food, yummy drinks more

WOW! 4/4/2003

I lived in Brazil for 2 years and enjoyed having the experience of going to Ipanema for dinner. I could not believe how much food they brought out to the table! I could not eat it all there was so much! The servers were great - plus it gave me a chance to catch up on my Portuguese. Great place! Pros: Amount of food, Calm atmosphere more

OK food 4/2/2003

I went to this restaurant for lunch with a few friends. The service was slow, and the food was mediocre for the price is about $15 and up for an entree. None of us were particularly exicited about our meal, I had the roasted chicken dish, and they had the steak. I think you can find a better restaurant for the same price range. Cons: mediocre food more

great brazilian 1/22/2003

This was a great brazilian restaurant. The food was great and so were the drinks. The service was good. I definately recommend this restaurant. more

First Timer 9/24/2002

This was my first experience with Brazilian and for the most part I liked it. Our servers were really friendly and chatted it up with us all evening. The atmosphere was very relaxed, almost like you were a guest in their home. Although this restaurant is small, it accommodated us and we were a large group. The food was good and everyone seemed pleased with their selection...We were all fans of the fried sausage...Yum, yum! Pros: Average price, Large portions more

Home at last 9/18/2002

Ipanema feels defitently like you are in Brasil--with traditional Brasilian food and charm. George is an amazing waiter like a father. The owner is equally nice. The cater to your every whim and treat you like family. Pros: Great Price, Easy parking more

Eat and learn portugeese! 9/17/2002

Ipanema is a great place; my boyfriend, who is brazilian, had certainly appreciated my choice of the restaurant to dine in, for he even sent me flowers at work the morning after the dinner! He definitely loved the food :). Shrimps in coconut milk are delicious, though if you're not ""the real"" brazilian you probably will be full with less than a half of the dish... We will surely go back to Ipanema: me-for more caipirinhas, my boyfriend-for a friendly chat with waiters, in portugeese! more

Now I'm the Girl from Ipanema 9/16/2002

I found it on Citysearch.com and now can't say enough. Ipanema is a 10! The food is not only delicious but they give you SO much! You've got to have the Porteagues sausage. Their Pahela is so packed with seafood that no one fought to have some lobster. more
