Fun because its one of the few palaces 4/5/2006

This is one of the few palaces in the United States and so it makes it interesting to go inside and it also helps in understanding Hawaiian history. However, if you are not interested in Hawaiian history it gets boring really quickly. You get to see the room where they held the last monarch under house arrest and the you get to see the quilt that she made. That was basically the one interesting thing I remember. The entire staircase was made out of a Koa which I thought was also pretty cool. Thats only because I like wood. In general, its nice to see if you're the museum/art person. However, for most it will probably leave that "i'd rather be at a beach felling". more

Beautiful Historical Landmark 9/26/2005

The Iolani Palace is a beautiful historical landmark . This is the palace that Queen Liliuokalani resided in as a monarch of Hawaii. The palace is filled with beautiful Hawaiian furniture and it takes you back in time. It is a great place to learn about Hawaii's history and culture. At least one Sunday each month, kamaaina (local residents) can enjoy free admission and docent-guided tours of Iolani Palace. You should call though at 522-0822 to confirm dates and times. more

tourist destination; gives you understanding/appreciation of Hawaiian history/culture 8/4/2005

Iolani Palace is located in downtown Honolulu – near many other historic sites. For any tourist, it should be a must-destination on your itinerary. Besides the amazing history of the place itself, Iolani Palace also showcases many historic art pieces and paintings in their decent-sized art galleries. You can also take a guided tour through the palace, which I recommend, because the docents here are very knowledgeable; your understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian history will grow tremendously with a visit here. more
